TIP: never put all of your eggs in one basket
Learn from my mistake, I was preparing for a 5 day camp and had assembled an awesome fire kit. I had a little bit of everything and I could have lit water on fire. Everything was in a nice organized pouch... that I forgot and left at home!😳
Now I have several fire kits that I keep stowed everywhere. Some kits are primitive and modern, some are just modern means. When I'm out in the woods I have at least 4 small kits stored in pockets, haversack, rucksack, etc. I like the pouch in this video and would use it as a main kit but still keep some little kits in other pockets. Some of my kits are nothing more than a bic in a firesleeve, a ferro rod, and a tin of firestarters.
Very good point. The same thing is applicable to getting separated from your gear. This is why most of my belt knives are on a sheath that holds a good sized ferro rod and I put a Bic on my person in a pocket along with a small flat roll of 1” duct tape (emergency tinder).
The only thing that I always think about a large fire kit is that if you keep everything in one large kit and you lose that bag or forget it etc. then you are SOL ( and I don’t mean “Survive Outdoors Longer”). Better to keep some on body, some on pack, and some in a 🔥 fire kit.

You should do a video make own Firestarter. I use cotton balls with vasoline, and cardboard and candle wax(couple of suggestions)
It probably isn't the same one, but I recently got recommended the fire-fast trekker on amazon. Very similar looking to your ferro rod. There's a couple other similar ones too.

I use the Firestarter with fat lighter, and twigs all the time. I have gotten lazy in my fifty-fifth year. Cheers from the South Carolina Lowcountry.
Not a bad lil kit. Off topic. Those solar lanterns we discussed. I think I remember them with orange trim. Had to dig through the memory banks a lil bit 🤣

It's a nice kit bag, for sure Wendell. And a pretty inclusive fire kit you've put together here. There are so many items that we can carry in our fire kits these days... it wasn't that way just 12 or 15 years ago. A lot of new and innovative products on the market. I agree with using the fire starter blocks. Big hot flame that lasts a long time! Great for drying out marginal tinder after a rain, or in a snowy winter environment. I use the "Zip" brand... but I'm sure that the "Duraflame" are just as good. I put Duraflame fatwood sticks in my kits. Haven't tried the fatwood sticks you are showing here. I think I would include some pre-prepared charcloth as well, especially in a go-bag fire kit. A fresnel lens or small magnification glass, like the one from the pathfinder store would also be a great addition. Great video, as usual. Thanks.
You can actually see the humidity in the air in your video. Hopefully some Fall temperatures coming soon.

Couple suggestions. Fresno lenses and a heavy duty pencil sharpener. Both real cheap and very useful. Great kit all around. I really loved the bag. Looking at the bag for something else. Take care

Bics are not the besr. Clippers are the best as they are refillable and the striker is removable. Bic has better marketing, that's all. I never bought a Bic again, after my first Clipoer.
It's just too large a fire kit to put in a backpack. Maybe something to pick out of before going going on a trek. I have a box that I pick out of to make a fire kit before going out or a fire kit for someone else.

Advice don't wait. Prepare you tinder now. Prepare a tablespoon of wood shaving so it bundle is ready when you need one
