I have a 08 lmm. I run hotshot. Its now at 320k and i will never get rid of it. Thanks for all the videos you do bro. very informative and you explain things very well and clear so everyone can understand.
Wow, that was amazing. We’re all learning so much from you; you’re an awesome teacher.
I seem to always find it to be the Fuel Pressure Relief Valve causing this issue on the lmms I have worked on. Always go ppe race plug even if you don't have an issue with these trucks. Rules it out later. Great video Josh.
Thanks for all the help you give us, you've taught me more about my Duramax and any book or person has so far.
Finally an lmm on the channel I have an 08 and just replaced the filter and I haven't had any fuel issues so far it runs like a champ it's bad ass it's my first diesel truck and love it it's been in socal since new and this truck is mint been garaged its whole life seriously it's cherry I love the truck 130.000 on it
LMM years are one of my favorites
Man I love it this is kinda the old video style just fixing problems
I have a 2007.5 LMM. Change the fuel line plug to the PPE under you advice 3-4 yrs ago. Never had a problem! Great video, Josh!
Thanks brotha. Your videos have been key to keeping my LBZ going.
And if anyone comes asking - D Elites, not deletes.
Hey Josh could you do a video on parasitic draw or grouding issues (LOCATIONS as well) for LMM and LBZ and how to test for them. Appreciate it.
I am so glad you buddy has an 07.5 and is having these problems....not for him but for me. Thanks for showing us your fixes on this truck. I have an 07.5 and have some fuling issues.when pulling hard 10000lbs or so at a hwy speed sometimes it will gointo limp mode ...it will be throwing a mass air fault. I can pull over and clear the code and drive on with no issues. But some times it will just have no power and the rail pressure will only be 7000 at wide open throttle (no code if I catch it fast enough). I can shut it off and let the pressure fall to 0 and restart and it's fine. I think I will try the pressure reg that u replaced on this vid and see if it helps. I have a airdog 165 and a PPE tunner. Thanks again for this vid.
I have a 07.5 LMM Duramax with only 142k on it. Ever since i got rid of the emissions items, havent had any issues! Fuel Pump will probably be in the near future though. Great content as always
YES I OWN 09 Lmm. Same issue. FIX-LIFT PUMP DELETED FUEL FILTER HEAD AND NEW 1/2” FUEL LINE FROM BESIDE BRAKE BOOSTER DIRECTLY INTO CP3. Change 3/8” fitting to 1/2” fittin in CP3. What a difference…. Cheers
thank you for doing all these videos ... great content ... love this channel
I own a 2009 lmm with 97800 mile thats stock except for intake and muffler delete hoping to delete it very shortly. Keep up the awesome videos.
350k miles LMM. Had as airdig and removed factory fuel filter. Never had fuel problems.
Oh my goodness. My 08 is having the same issue. Horrible fuel milage 11 to 12 mpg. 😢😢 I just got all new fuel lines and now I am totally floored. I am goin to get one of those PPE race valves. NOW. Watch me purchase it from you in next 10 minutes. Thank you a million. Dude you just made my day awesome!!! 😂😂❤❤
What’s normal fuel mileage for an LMM? Mines averages 13 to 15.
@@hardtarget2359 Hi buddy I was gettin 17 at one point and it just got worst .. Now I am installing the PPE race valve and a lift pump Hoping that fixes my issue.
I get 22 unloaded. 17 with anything in the bed of the truck 14 towing
I'm getting a p0087 code on my 07.5 chevy silverado 2500hd... I don't know any advice
I had same thing with my 02, LB7. Was the O ring for the fuel heater @ the fuel filter housing. Installed new O rings, problems solved 3 years ago.
I'm glad I replaced that plug 4 years ago. I also put a bigger fitting on front of the rail.
Great Video! Excellent information! I have that plug PPE and will be installing it when I put on my 3" down and another new PPE pipe installed! Thanks 🤠 Lmm And I thank you! 🛠🏁☠️💨
For me, at the beginning of the videos along with the year/age of the vehicle, mileage and use (e.g., lots of towing, lots of idling, short trips, etc.) would also help to put problems into perspective...otherwise, good work!
I had to change the fuel plug on my LBZ. I remember calling numerous saints in the process of removal. Boy was that tight. Replaced it with a PPE and never had a fuel code pop up again.
that happened on my lly its a relief valve to relieve any surge in fuel rail pressure which can happen by getting into the pedal then getting off it and on again it causes a surge when they get old they can stick open putting a solid ppe plug is a bad idea the surge of pressure has nowhere to go and you can blow the tips off the injector and then you have a bigger problem
My first truck is an lmm, has 177,000 on it. Love these LMMs, been around them sense I was 5 years old
08 LMM l, 300k mi currently no fuel issues but added airdog 150 at 74k mi.
Thanks for your videos, God Bless you and your family!
Filter head delete, fprv plug, fuel sump and lift pump = happy truck
I Owen a LTX Durmax 2016 3/4 ton 2500. I really like your videos they really have helped me. God bless you Chaplain Dale Stearns
Had to replace everything between the cp3 and fuel tank on my friend 08. Fuel lines were kinked and rotted, fuel cooler and sending unit were rotted. Filter housing was junk. Fun stuff.
I have a 2010 lmm. Haven't had issues yet. Good videos, looking for good shop to work with.
I have a PhD, a parts throwing degree. Will it fix it? Dunno. Does it need to be replaced? Most likely.
Just picked up a 07 lmm sierra , love it
I have a 2008 GMC 2500hd. This just happened to me when pulling a 5th wheel trailer through the passes of Idaho to Montana. Truck lose power and went into limp mode. Pull over let idle and used my cheap code reader and reset. It did it several times. Replaced the fuel filter assembly with high quality one. On the way back to Oregon the truck did it again. Went into limp mode. I will inspect fuel lines and have the pressure checked. And always thank you for all your advise and tips. They are much appreciated.
Sounds like my LBZ. Went into limp many times towing. Sometimes on level highway. Only in the summer and hot. Fuel tank was low on most occasions it limped. I concluded the fuel was getting excessive air in the system. After a lot of research I installed a Fass signature lift pump. No more problem and the truck runs better than it ever has. My economy running to my shop and back for 14 years was always about 12 because of stop and go traffic. I'm getting 14.9 now. I think some trucks have issues with unstable pressures that causes the computer to be constantly adjusting the pressure. Stabilizing the pressure with a lift pump and eliminating air bubbles possibly helps power and economy. All I know is it's been great blowing past the places where it dropped into limp mode like clockwork. Not fun with 11,000 lbs towing. The better milage has been a big surprise but I have run enough fuel and city miles to be sure it's not a fluke.
Hey man your videos are awesome they’ve saved my butt more then once
I just actually replaced my fuel lines as well with the same kit you put in your buddy’s truck
Just curious my rail pressure sits around 4400 psi at idle truck runs fine makes 26000 psi in the rail at 100% engine load
Just wondering if I should be concerned enough to look into it more or let er go like that?
Same motor LMM as well
I have a 2012 GMC LML absolutely love my truck it came from Canada and us a little rusty but he's a good truck. It loses a little antifreeze each week I need to change head gaskets and said studded soon
Great job! But if the Ole girl comes back look into fuel pressure regulator on cp3 pump I replaced mine once I put in air dog lift pump on my lly.
Great video good information as always good job 😮
My 08 LMM has a fass 165 pump, tuned, 3 inch pipe going into 5 inch exhaust, Banks cold air and mishimoto rad and intercooler with their hoses. It runs great
Sorry I don't do any social media. I live in communist canada
I have 2010 Egr delete with blocker plate, no Dpf EFI live 8” lift and runs beautiful
I got a Cummins common rail from an auction in Dallas. I was 190 miles from home, and I noticed that my top speed was 65 MPH. I stopped to refuel, and my top speed dropped to 60. Then 55. Then 50. Then 40, 30, 20, 10, and when I pulled into my drive way 13 hours later (took me 13 hours to drive 190 miles), my top speed was 3. I have no idea what was wrong, I kind of just fired the parts cannon at it. I replaced the lift pump, fuel filter, injector pump, injectors, and the injector feed lines. That was about 5 years ago, still runs like a champ for now.
I got a 2007.5 from new with an airdog and race plug installed for over a decade now. Only problem is a brake controller went out. Dyno'd at 650 and pulling 15k+ on occasion. Next step will be deleting the stock fuel filter when it goes out.
I have a 2008 lmm Duramax. GM has issued a service bulletin and how to replace the fuel line. The fuel line on the other side collapsing on that side you can't tell they collapse. Parker fuel line is what is suggested. Read the bulletin as I did and it solved the problem
I tried a using Carter electric fuel pump for a lift pump on my LB7 and when it failed it did something similar to that. The big difference though is the primer button would suck down.
When I realized it was that cursed Carter pump, it went straight in the bin and I ordered up an Airdog. The Airdog has been totally reliable since.
I deleted the carter pump after almost taking out my injection pump, being that I went to a Fass Fuel pump and relocated it on the frame by the tank.
After languishing for a year, i have got my 2008 LMM back running. I returned the stock tune to the engine and the box tuner is only used for its guages. So i'm back to 13 mpg and so far not regen EVERY time i drive it. To answer the pulling question this runs good light but is a dog with 15,000- 20,000 lbs! My dad's STOCK 2007.5 Cummins will out pull me and not break a sweat!
Good call great fix !!!
Thanks 👍
I have an 07.5 3500 SRW, almost 300,000 and i double tow with it every summer. 11k lb 5th wheel with apx 3300 lb flatbed with toys behind that. Even before i compound turbo'd the truck it still pulled good. So your boy shouldnt have any issues But deleting mskes HUGE difference. If you dont want to delete, go with an lbz.
I love my LMM. Will own it until I die.
I have a 08 GMC lmm, slowly building it. Going big single s400 route
Something like that recently happened to me on my LML. Fuel filter was my immediate go-to, but it was actually the fuel vacuum sensor next to the fuel filter head.
A lift pump can actually bring out a lot of problems. When I had mine put in several years ago, the lines immediately started leaking fuel. Then, the fuel filter life dropped to 0% days after changing it. I was somehow able to drive it like that for a year or so until it just started dying. Turns out the fuel vacuum sensor diaphragm can tear and introduce air to system (my problem now). This is awesome though, and concerning. Kind of worried my next problem is the fuel pressure regulator which looks like it's in a rough spot on the LML. Thank you again, love the content.
Do you have a lift pump? Are you having a Crank Hard Start and throwing a P0087 code while leaking fuel?
@@armygreen82nd I am not having any codes thrown...yet. That sounds like a kinked or corroded line somewhere. If it's leaking, probably why you're getting the Fuel Pressure Regulator sensor error.
Good job!
Nice work
High-pressure fuel systems are always temperamental have to keep narrowing it down. 🤷♂️. Good job.
I bought a LMM new in ‘09. The truck was a beast. 5” turbo back exhaust and a PPE hot +2 tuner on level 3 at all times.
I should have kept it 😞
I have a 2008 Lmm that’s got 517k and it’s still going strong, one of the reasons why it’s still going is because it was deleted at 250k
I had a LLY and as soon as a tuned and deleted it I gave it a fuel rail plug. A buddy had his pressure relief valve open because he was running a box tuner which was over fueling the truck and once that valve opens the spring inside just gets weaker over time.
My experience is limited to my truck (LBZ); when my fuel filter head gaskets leaked, I lost pressure at the primer. It wouldn't start. Pump it up and it ran good. Then shut it off and it wouldn't restart without repriming. I've had the same issue twice in 200K miles. Come to think of it, I'm probably due that problem again.
Selling my 06 LBZ with 132,000 miles. Washington state. Got a 2024 dually.
How much?
@InspireNThrive206 I think I'm listing it for $25000. Need to wash and vacuum it still.
Those fuel coolers are like a engine rad it can plug up with gummy or gelled fuel and cause a air pocket and kink the line
Could you talk about the use of tow mode on the (Duramax Allison Transmission). When should you use it?
Awesome video
My 07 flashed a water in fuel, started idling real bad, and now won't start.. kicked in to limp mode last week, cleared the code and drove it for a few days without issues.
Once again, great video! I was hoping for some advice, i have an 02 LB7, and i want to be able to minitor things like rail pressure, boost, and EGTs. What would be the best route gauges or a cts and which ones do you recommend?
Definitely a cts3 👍
Another wonderful video
Thanks again!
Had this issue with my 2008 and it ended up being the dpf plugged. Removed and ran great..
I have a 09 duramax with a h&s mini Maxx with a airdog 165 a beans sump kitca mishimoto air intake and a race fuel pressure valve. I have the same issue randomly going to zero on the fuel filter and getting a low fuel rail pressure and goes into limp mode randomly. Been pulling my hair to figure it out why. My race valve is still a valve not a plug.
My 08 had a bad low pressure switch. Put a AC Delco and it fixed it.
we all need a hommi like him
Have a 09 silverado with 3 hundred thousand miles and have Been a very good truck
i have a 2008 lmm runs perfect but when pull a hill with load or no load in 100 plus weather it get a p0087 code but runs great aroundd town
Mint dashboard
Just bought a LBZ and drove for a 2 weeks now I’m have a major fuel leak at the cp3 and I can’t tell where exactly it’s coming from so I started taking thing apart to get a better look and the cp3 is loose and I was wondering could that be where it’s leaking
Josh i had an issue with my cummins. the fuel rail pressure plug was stuck open so all the fuel would go back to the tank. . the duramax rail plug is on the back side of the fuel rail. check that pressure plug . replace. i could only get a few pounds of fuel rail & line pressure.
i wrote too soon.
I have an 08 and was having the same issues and repaired the same parts. The problem kept coming up and I took it to my local mechanic and had him go on a ride with me because the pressure was always good until I was under a load for a few seconds then the engine light would come on and it would go into limp mode. He came on a ride with me and had his computer plugged in. I pretty much stabbed it and as the truck was speeding up the pressure was all good for a few seconds then when I was getting up to about 70 the pressure started falling flat on its face. This would happen towing up hills if I didn't keep the RPM's between 1800 & 2500. Ended up replacing the CP3 and now it has been running fine for 3 years now.
Oh and I added a lift pump before the CP3 was done.
Thanks for the info
Im assuming it fixed it because i dont see another video. Going to try this on mine. Having same issue
I see you using a flashlight, you ever use one of those headband lights? Just wondering your opinion on em if you ever have..
On my LLY I was having a similar problem. I would go driving down the road and all of a sudden. It would cut out and go in the limp mode. I'd be going on the interstate and I couldn't go above 30 miles an hour. I would bleed the air out of the lines and check the fuel filter housing. And it was blowing bubbles out of where the heater unit is on it. On top of the housing. Right by the prime ball If it does it again look there But truth be told, The issue never completely went away. I continued Troubleshooting right up till I ended up into an accident with it. I tried Fuel pressure regulator. When I saw the video of the kinked lines, I thought. That could probably been the problem I was experiencing
I had to replace the fuel sending unit on my LLY, had a small hole in it so it was loosing pressure. 375,000 miles and still towing.
My 08 LMM would black smoke a bit with the stock exhaust and emission
Josh: What type and model of bi-directional OBD scanner (with full ABS functions) would you recommend for a 2007 Kodiak C4500 with a 6.6 LMM engine? Thanks. Jay Chalmers, Murfreesboro, TN
Cat filter fuel under the hood, fass lift pump with cat filter on the fass, cat oil filter on it, H&S tuner, S&B cold air intake, 5 inch straight pipe, pcv re-route kit, egr delete,= happy truck
If you delete filter head when doing a lift pump how do you get rid of code for the water in fuel deal?
how did you install those new lines? what did you have to take off the blue ones
Replaced that on my DmaxAlanche but it was causing surging.
Looking for a straight answer on what the KEY ON ENGINE OFF (not running) Fuel Pressure Sensor reading is supposed to be (on a real scan tool) for and LBZ and LMM when the sensor is working correctly. Is it Zero (0.0 Psi)? Or is it supposed to read something?
I have a 2009 LMM and in real hot weather it looses fuel pressure in the fuel bowl every once in awhile. It only happens when idling then I prime it till the priming button gets hard again and it's good to go. Weird 🤦
I used to have a lmm, 2 lb7s, and a l5p
I’ve got a lml giving a start up struggling for fuel but then catches up runs fine FRP and DFRP are really close is it possible my valve is faulty when trucks sits then start up again ?
Yep always wanted a Duramax ended up getting a 2009 Lmm
Cute kid your a blessed man hi to you and the truck master family and Earl 😂😂😂
I bet the collaped line led to the failure of that sensor.
I'm issuing the same problem
I am having these issues on my 2007.5... about every 5th time ill start the rig, then after a few seconds, it dies. I get out, open the bleeder and prime it. Then it will start.
I replaced the fuel filter first... then the fuel filter primer assembly. Same issue still. I also get either full limp mode, which I fix by leaving my programer plugged in and deleting the codes. Then sometimes it will run, but, shift hard. But, after i park it for awhile, that goes away.
I’m having the same issue, did you ever figure out what the fix was?
@@tobykoenig527 let me see if I can find a link...
Could be your fuel rail plug. I bought a PPE Race Fuel Plug and will install that soon.

PLEASE HELP:: 07 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD 6" lift, 38 nittos, Duramax BMP CAT fuel filter housing 95GPH lift pump, EGR delete, S&B cold air intake, EFI live, DPS5 switch,6" exhaust.151k mileage..no p codes... except the "reduced engine power" as mentioned in video. Mine keeps bogging down when accelerating and rpms drop gives small puff of black smoke but it eventually gets up to speed..I guess because of the tune its Not in total limp mode i can still do 70+ mph...cant clear reduced engine power code no matter if disconnect battery for hour and obd scan doesn't recognize or find code..fuel filter life goes to zero after new CAT filter replacement daily..what could my problem be? Is it a EFI live tune issue? Do you think the PPE race fuel valve install could be a solution for me as well? Any and All help with a diagnosis is Greatly appreciated 👍 thanks for all the great videos
I have the same truck but white. I'm still chasing a water leak in the cab.
I got LMM and had to update fill filter head. CAT
Any chance factory debris inside the new lines made it's way to that part? I see it often where that exact thing creates a flooding carb on outboard motors. So much so that I've gotten in the habit of Always blowing out Any new fuel line.
I've got a 2008 lmm, 130k on mileage. HSP all around Except for the EGR, it's all still factory. I'd like to do a complete delete to let it exhale, but gun shy because of our Government coming down on it. When pulling my toy hauler on a good grade I lose fuel rail pressure and it goes into limp mode, I use CTS 2 to clear it. I've purchased new rail plug, but haven't installed it yet because it runs fine until a hard pull. Also installed a 165 fuel pump, motor is stock. Also thinking of removing factory filter and bracket for less possible restricted fuel flow. And taking out the front plug and drilling out the hole again for easement of flow to the motor.
2010 LMM and she runs like a charm been deleted
I'm 20 and just bought my 07 lmm chevy silverado 2500hd. Honestly do all of the work to my truck myself because there are no deseil shops around me. I have been putting in some money here an there when I can afford it. But there are like 3 or 4 things I would like to do to it yet but I can't really afford it at the moment. Honestly just putting 2 or 3 grand on the truck is going increase the value a lot. I got a good deal I would say 12,000. The frame and body condition is insane for ohio. It was a pavement princess that got parked in a garage before I owned it.
On my 08 LMM I got 17 mpg. And now I am struggling to get 13 mpg. Any suggestions are appreciated. Josh you are a great mechanic. I want to bring my 3500 LMM then u could diagnose my issue.
13 mpg is "normal" for stock (and NO weight reduction) LMM.
13 in the city is normal hwy should be 18-20 on lmm
Every single truck I know of that has fuel problems are ether the fuel head leaking from the plunger or it’s the sending unit on the tank especially for northern areas with rust and salt, they collect dirt and random junk up there and it rusts the lines out and will starve for fuel cause it’s sucking air
Have a c4500 with the LMM.When I changed my fuel filter the last 2 times,my primer NEVER gets hard and I cannot prime it with the primer bulb.To get fuel at the bleeder screw,I blow air into the fuel tank at the filler neck.
Anyone know what that means? If a primer us bad, would it not suck air?
Truck does not lose prime and always starts right up.
How good is a Duramax I’m looking to get a diesel
I have an 08 lmm. Been fighting the low rail pressure code for years. Added a lift pump, and changed out those bends in the fuel lines per the TSB. I still get the low rail pressure code. 😩
Keep us updated!
Also put the race plug in the fuel rail
@@andrewbenavidez5764 might need a new cp3.
Disconnect your FPR physically while the truck is running. Your injector should be at 100% duty cycle when this is done. And your actual fuel rail pressure should be a 26k psi if checked with a scanner.
My fuel filter head went bad, but the side effect was it would stay primed
