I broke my leg in four places two months ago and am just now starting to walk again. My first shopping trip since my accident was this morning to pick out plants at Lowe’s. The trip was slow and painful but oh so wonderful to my soul. Gardening is the best therapy and the feeling of the dirt was wonderful. Your video was so inspiring so I will likely do more plant shopping next weekend as well.
Linda, on your next deadheading of the salvia can you video your process please. I am trying salvia in my front garden. Thank you for sharing your beautiful garden with all of us. My favorite is the side walkway to the back yard and your back yard! Well, I guess I should say all of your garden is my favorite!
Linda, you featured many of my favorite plants. The salvia, tickseed ,worm wood, penstemons, and Catmint ! They are all really great plants. (I wish I had you here in Georgia to advise & garden with me! It would be so much fun) We would be garden buddies! LOL 😊 From Georgia with love ❤
Linda hi,thanks for the trip to the nursery. We here in Minnesota, are yet waiting for ours to stock and open . I see how cute you look in your black an white striped top. Now,as I’ve mentioned before, apply that same strip to an Curved awning over your back door, and or an umbrella. You wouldn’t believe, how it will set off ,all the color in your yard. I’m not only a long time gardener but, I was a visual merchandiser for many years, and owned a Business, and did all my own display work. Just a thought!🥰 Thanks for another great Linda V video.🌺🌹🥀🌷💐
Love the flower choices can’t wait to see you plant them soon. By the way thanks for the shout out of my name on your interview today. Show was awesome. ❤
This was FABULOUS!! Just what I needed today....We are just beginning to work up the soil and get ready to plant in 1 of our new landscape areas after our addition is finally done! What a year!! Our beautiful addition was finally finished on the heals of my Moms death and as you know, there is a LOT of decision making and items in her home to go through! The 4 of us girls have begun moving to our homes some of her beautiful belongings. This has been a hard few months, but as the weather here in Kentucky is starting to get warmer, so is my desire to get going outside and creating some beautiful gardens! THIS was just perfect and I now have a lovely list to head out to our garden center with! Thank you and much love and blessings to you my friend....
I have a brown thumb and no real skiill to speak of so I loved watching this video of easy plants. Some I have and some I don’t, so I am going to give a couple or so of your recommendations. Also trying to add more perrieneals One plant I’m absolutely in love with is maguerite sweet potato vine, which is an annual but i love how vigorously it grows, spilling over raised beds and pots. Even pots hanging in trees, etc. The limegreen is beautiful in a variety of settings. Also love purple fountain grass, another annual, which gets so huge in my raised beds and flower pots. The sweet potato vine combined with putple fountain grass is wonderful to me. I like types of potatoe grass as well too, but I only buy the purple. I live in New Mexico so in my yard, for me, there are a lot of easy plants. Stella del oro are easy for me too, so I have qite a few but I’ll probably add some more! 😊. Thank you SO MUCH, for your great videos. HOPE YOUR SUMMER GARDEN HAS 100% success, which I know it undoubtedly will. ❤❤❤
The vervain is very nice and comes back Every year. It is drought and wind tolerant. If you are fond of chartreuse colour please try Euphorbia. It s nice in combination with tulips.
Great ideas! I was just wondering what to plant in my new little garden out front - on the other side of a small rock wall that we have. I hadn't thougt of any of these before now! Such wonderful plants for full sun, evenup here in Canada! Thanks Linda!
Enjoy your shows, particularly as a fellow Oklahoma gardener. Your comments on Butterfly Blue scabiosa caught my attention. I moved it to my current home about 20 years ago, and it made it a few more years. I chalked that up to being a short lived perennial and that a 5 mile move resulted in a switch from improved black gumbo soil to unimproved red clay. But I planted an unnamed blue variety 3-4 years ago (Walmart, in stores now) that has performed so well for me - even blooming through part of winter. Notable is that it is planted in a small southwest-facing bed surrounded by a massive concrete driveway, shade until noon and then punishing sun until nightfall. It is deadhead frequently and watered by hand almost daily since it is near front door planters. My Stillwater, OK, experience and yours are surprisingly different! That’s gardening for you!
You never said the name of that one purple flowering plant Right before the catmint . The one that’s good in south facing direction that’s drought tolerant and likes full sun . Live all that you do ! I really want that one because my house faces west and I need something that works with sedum . Thank you ❤️
I love scabiosa! It does great down in south central Texas. It does tend to take a break during the hottest part of the summer, but comes roaring back when temps cool off. From mid March until mid July and October through mid December it blooms its head off. Butterflies LOVE it and it has a beautiful nodding motion in the breeze. I found 6 plants at Lowe's on Clearance for $.50-1.00 each a few years ago. Only one didn't survive. Now I have more than six because I've been able to divide them! Best plant deal I've managed so far!
What is the plant that you showed at 14:40, I've watched it three times and can't see the tag. You mentioned it I think again with the red furman. This time of year, I want to buy all the flowers.
Hi Linda Adore your plant selection. In the fall i find the rudbeckia gives a beautiful show with its black seedheads. Keep it until this point...so don't be too hasty to deadhead❤
When you said bring your plant to the nursery... I do that by dampening a folded paper towel in a zip lock bag ... and take a leaf or a cutting of things I want to match or complement. Keeps the color and plant from wilting or discoloring. My favorite are all the beautiful salvias, bacopa , alyssum and I still love purple and white petunias in my California garden.
Great video for sun loving plants. I live in the shade. Any advice on shade loving perennials besides the usual suspects, hostas, astilbe, lungwort, heuchera, etc?
Some excellent suggestions. I have tried some in 7a New York with little success. Rudbeckia is a no fail. Sedum is alway successful. I have problems with echinacea and coreopsis. Catmint is great and so is Russian sage. I know you don’t like hostas but I love them. They take up a lot of space and the leaves are huge. Solomon’s seal is also a keeper in my shade garden as is Jack Frost. I also like the dinner plate flower hibiscus ! My encore azalea is showing signs of flowers to come! ❤. I will get more if it blooms twice. Can you do a shade garden tour?
Hi I have a lot of wormwood on the front hedge along footpath and fence it does very well yes needs lots of trimming The last one you showed cone flower I have found it hard to grow here in Adelaide think our climate is similar to yours in the summers
Linda, the purple Joseph’s Coat would look marvelous with your color combinations. It roots fairly easy and I can winter it over in my zone 8b/9a area.
Yes when I see people choosing the beautiful blue spires of Delphinium I always tell them here in pensacola fl it will die don’t waste your $$$ lol garden centers probably don’t appreciate.. but I’ve wasted money on it never again!!! Great video!!!! Wish we had a BRIcks GARDEN CENTER!!!
Same! I'm in San Antonio area of Texas and I get so sad in the spring when I see it! I adore delphinium! I made the mistake two springs in a row and realized, it's not just me killing the plant, they just don't last more than a few weeks here. Every year I see them and they are more expensive every year. I avert my eyes when I see them! 🤣🤣 I have found larkspur is a nice substitute, not as showy/dramatic, but it does well here from about late March until early June if you sprinkle seeds out in the fall.
Enjoyed. I planted guara last year after you talked about it and it was great. I grow delphiniums but I am in zone 6a.That touch of gold holly sounds interesting and I think I will try it. I would like to have a video on plants found in an English garden Thanks
I love all those different textures but the same purple colour. In answer to your question of the day, we say Nepeeta here in the UK or catmint. There are many varieties and the leaves have a fragrance that’s very attractive to cats. Thanks for a very enjoyable video Linda. X
I lost two Guara plants in my raised beds last winter. I had four Gold Soft Touch Hollies in pots. They lived for two years and then succumbed to the winter. I’ve had pretty good luck with all the other plants.
Nepita -- I planted one plant in my garden a long time ago and now it has become a "weed" in all of my garden beds. I'm constantly pulling it out. It's tough, but it has overtaken. I'm a huge fan of larkspur. It reseeds and seems to last a long time. In fall, a good thing for me to plant are bulbs -- tulips, daffodils, iris tubers. Tough as nails! Zone 3-4 in southeast Montana.
Love your suggestions but some won't grow in my zone 4/5 garden so I will look for substitues. I would love an alternative suggestion for the Touch of Gold Holly since it is beautiful and I would love to grow it, but too cold for my area.
Hi Linda. I live in an apartment with a balcony. Do you have any suggestions for perennials that can be planted in a pot on the balcony? I only get the morning sun and I'm in Ohio. Thank you for all the knowledge you share with us. Stay safe and enjoy the rest of your weekend. 😊

Linda, what was the name of the purple plant you set next to the touch of holly? Right before the catmint? You stated it would grow almost like a small bush.

Just the other day I was gathering info on good plants for my Zone 10 full sun front garden and saw that Vervain is also known as Verbena. To me they do look alike, and I'm thinking maybe it has a different name as Verbena comes in different colors. I'm also looking at Boxwood varieties - any recommendations for good ones to grow in planters in full sun?
I love guara, and it does well for me, but the last time I used it, it became infested with what I think was squash bugs. Is this common? Does it need to be dealt with every year?
Linda, your boxwood basil that you planted last year did you plant seed and if you did. Did you sow it in the yard or did you start it in a seed starter
Love the video but hard to hear due to background traffic. Would love another tour to show what you are picking up today! Love the Touch of gold holly with the lavender colors.
Hi Linda, I would not recommend bringing plants from home into a nursery. The nursery/growers that iv’e worked for are concerned about the spread of pests or disease. Bringing a plant sample in in a plastic baggie is great.

Just loved your look today standing beside your car. How sweet!
I love the silver/purple combo! So pretty together.
I really appreciate you talking about plants you won't grow, for whatever reason. Invasive or to hard to grow

Love the backyard! I’m sure you will have plenty of good times around the fire pit!! Enjoy! The tulips are gorgeous!😊
Thanks Linda for all the wonderful tips!
Thanks for putting the reminders on screen to screen shot your recommended plants. Great idea and helpful for those of us who think we’ll remember 😎
Thank you for the beautiful newsletter. :)
I've always pronounced it ne pee ta and I love LOVE LOVE nepeta (catmint) one of my personal work-horse perennials.
Me I love irises and peonies lavender sage roses, plants that have a gorgeous scent.

If I had to guess, I'd say it looks like a salvia gregii variety. In a warm or temperate climate they will usually grow 2'-3' tall and wide.
Salvia gregii

Black eyed Susan’s are so profuse that I have been using them as ground cover in new flower beds while I wait for design to strike.
