    Zooms have to be special to attract my attention, and weight-aperture ratio is unique so I think I'll get one. Small enough for APS-C, too.

    I sold the Tammy 28-75 for the 28-200, which I absolutely love. It was hard to part with the 28-75 because the Sigma has looked more appealing for its form factor alone, for whenever I need something for professional use down the line. Glad your take reaffirms my thoughts.

    I got this lens from my gf a couple of months back and I absolutely love it. I know build quality is technically worse than the 24-70 but I think it feels good and prefer that it's light so that's not a problem for me.

    A lot of people talk about how the 24-70 is right on the edge of being usable on gimbles. Have you had any specific situations where the gimble just flat out couldn't take the weight, or is it more of a muscle fatigue issue?

    • @sparrow9982
      @sparrow9982 3 роки тому

      The rs2 even takes the 70-200 f2.8. Hope this helped. I also have the 12-24 and 24-70 gmasters mounted with the raveneye and follow focus motors withput any issue.

    • @chrisbrockhurst
      @chrisbrockhurst  3 роки тому +1

      depending on the gimbal you have there will be no issues, but once in a cage and up slightly higher it becomes more 'on the edge. That being said, with the Ronin S if you cant balance it properly and then turn it on the gimbal will still function, it's just not optimal and battery life will suffer too.

    3:19 You say the 24-70 is slightly sharper at the curve lines. I don't see it. What I DO see is the M in Mute and the H in HND is actually softer on the 24-70. Same with the days of the week. The T, F, and S are all sharper on the 28-70 image. Is it possible that you mixed up the titles in these images?

    thanks for this review, I shoot weddings with 35mm 85mm and 50mm and have been thinking of replacing them with this for simplicity and being quicker on the day. I am used to shooting f1.8 and like that look but am curious as to whether if having switched to f2.8 I will notice a huge difference? For example that look we all desire it not just as a result of the aperture but of the compression the lens will give you, with the sigma 28-70 f2.8 you can get closer than with all my 3 primes thus throwing the background completely out. I notice chris you shoot weddings, did you feel and see a big difference? Do you still shoot weddings with it or have you reverted back to primes? Many thanks

    • @chrisbrockhurst
      @chrisbrockhurst  2 роки тому

      The flexibility of having a 24-70 trumps the little difference you will notice, such a great lens for weddings. Not having to keep changing out lenses for all the different things that happen throughout a wedding day is huge.

    I have the Tamron 28-75mm which is the direct rival to this. The image is incredibly sharp and I've never had ANY problems with the autofocus. So either I got lucky or maybe Chris got unlucky with his copy of the lens. But I can only recommend the Tamron for anyone who wants a budget f2.8 zoom lens that still has awesome quality!

      I think I have a rough copy of the 28-75 as well. Everyone says it’s extremely sharp, but I find it soft compared to… all my other lenses. It’s also slow to focus, and super plasticy. Plus the barrel of the lens has started to creep out when I’m walking too. Safe to say it’s not agin well and I baby my gear. I’m thinking about switching to the sigma just due to the slightly smaller size, higher quality build, and better quality control. As time goes on, we’re starting to see more and more complaints about the Tamron.

    03:48 - do you think this would "focus fast enough" for having action shots? EXAMPLE: skateboarder (or animal) jumping right in front of the camera for a wide angle freeze frame shot.
    I've heard a different reviewer say it's a magnificent lens, but quiet slow at auto focus.....
    Looking at your outdoor testing, it seems to take awhile to focus, especially for faster tracking for animals and action scenes.
    Please let me know, I'm considering buying this week.
