With the PLA in Depsang, this could be a ploy to get IA out of the Saltoro range and leave the door open for an eventual takeover of Siachen by the PLA. Let India not repeat the same mistake as was done by vacating Kailash Range in 2021.
@Xhx Ztz It's self-serving for Indian thinkers to assume that the PLA and the CPC's strategy and actions at the LAC have had any significant negative impact on China. It has not had any impact whatsoever on China's economy, global standing, etc. A strategic embrace between India and US is good to think of but on the ground the US is in no mood to send its troops and kinetic forces to help India defend the LAC. This is India's war to fight and once again, like in 1962, India's armed forces are at best able to defend but in no shape to take the battle into enemy territory.
For India to have any chance in getting out of this quagmire, it needs to make (or threaten) swift moves westward (not northward) towards the CPEC road. That might force the PLA's attention westward and ease up pressure in Depsang. That said, I do not think the current political dispensation has even the gumption to consider that possibility.
This India is not the Nehru-Gandhi (Chacha-Bapu) India...

No country will take interest in any battle now, as these countries are aware of how much they go back economically if they go for war.

Not in position to fight? Who told you? You are looking at our economic condition and judging on that. Mind you that just two years ago, Modi tested us and we replied with a bloody nose. Imran khan being a staunch supporter of peace and want his regime to be a welfare one, is willing to avoid any sort of conflicts. That reflected in his policies in Afghanistan as well. Where he avoided to indulge in the power politics there. But it doesn't mean that capacity to fight isn't there. We have every tool in our box to deter against Indian aggression. We have deterrence at every level against you. Whether conventional or nuclear. You just did test it two years ago and we showed you that we have the capability to counter you conventionally. Don't even think of crossing the border, our tactical nukes will take care of you very well. Your S400 will be of no use, we have lots to counter that too. Showing aggression this time will only mean destruction of India from two sides. And BTW talking of economy, your economic condition isn't very good either. Your Godi media is hiding it is another thing. You will have much to lose than us. But the most worrying thing that I see is that educated people in India is calling for war against a nuclear state. Rather than go for peace and solve our problems, godi media and WhatsApp university have brainwashed Indian youth for war and Pakistan annihilation. Operation meghdoot in 1984 that saw India occupy siachen wasn't really a " soldier to soldier" combat, but more of a case of India outmanoeuvering Pakistan in occupying the heights based on intelligence inputs that the Pakistanis were shopping for high altitude winter wear for their soldiers,..As for the security policy that rules out hostilities with India for a hundred years, well, it needs to be taken not just with a pinch of salt, but needs a visit to the salt pan.... For Pakistan has a history of going back on its commitments, whether on its founder's promise of an honorable status to its minorities with respect for all religions, or in Musharrafs commitment of " not allowing their territory for subversive activities" against India... Looks like Pakistan recognises its in deep trouble economically and it's buying time .. Finally, the whole concept of mutual withdrawal from Siachen is funny, coz there is no Pakistan army in siachen, they are well below the Saltoro ridge...In my personal view, India should never withdraw from the region because it provides strategic access to Shaksgam valley occupied by China and karakoram pass, not to mention DBO.
@Shivan Shivan Operation meghdoot was in 1984... The event you are narrating was in 1987 (Operation Rajiv) if I'm not mistaken. It was one of the failed Pakistani attempts to capture Siachen..
@Shivan Shivan Stop changing the goal posts. India has an altitude advantage. Same reason why Indian millitary kept getting beaten up during Kargill war before bombing all Pakistani positions using air force.

Indeed it does pak will have economic stability within a few years reports already indicate that our economy will recover this year CPEC has slowed due to COVID however this year it will flourish moreover Pakistan has some deals with russians and Afghans with central asian countries so pak in concluding these agreements and india cannot evacuate 900,000 indian troops from IOK and pak knows once it's ready it will take Kashmir this is inevitable

In the initial part of the show, you say, perhaps inadvertently, that the Indian Army occupied the Siachin heights in 1994. It was actually 1984 (as you aver later). Can cause confusion amongst the uninitiated. Perhaps a slip of the tongue.
A good, enlightening episode. I had the privilege of serving a full tenure in winters as a Captain on the Northern Glacier more than 30 years back. Went right upto Indira Col!

Indian China policy like Kashmir policy has been flattered since beginning. Let India recognise Tibbet as independent nation. What happens then. It will set China. Our border dispute with China is due to our lack of granting recognition to Tibbet

I am not a hawk about pakistan india peace process but when the documents say it doesn't want hostility with india for next 100 years I can smell I'll intention.
Excellent explanation. One important addition to the information- Indian RAW agent in London informed Delhi that Pakistan is buying 2500 high altitude sets for its brigade located at Skardu. Army int put two and two together and planned its op for Siachen and Saltoro and timed it to perfection. Incidentally Mushraff was the Bdr Cdr of this Bde. I have also one complaint- no talk on Siachen can be complete without mentioning Sub Bana Singh's leadership in physically beating Pak army in their endeavor.
I believe that we shouldn't leave our territories unguarded by agreeing in an agreement with Pakistan & China. History shows that Pakistan never uphold their commitments which led to the kargil war. China on the other hand never uphold the international laws which is visible in the east china sea region. Leaving places like Siachen de militarized would provide them opportunity to recapture it and India would lose the entire state of jammu kashmir and ladakh. We should have a militarize presence on our borders with assuring the neighbors that conditions won't escalate tension from our end unless being challenged.
It took time and lives sacrificed of our brave army for us to be in a position of strength in our borders and we shouldn't vacate it.
I will second your opinion. We should not leave our current positions until one crushes the other for ever.
And India upholds her commitments. One commitment was about plebiscite in OCCUPIED KASHMIR. This commitment was made by Pandit Javahir Lal Nehru in the UN.

My Dad was part of the team that Col Kumar lead. He would never disclose all details about it until he wrote an article last year. Unfortunately he passed away in 2021. Will make sure my children and there children also remember his brave deeds.

India's foreign policy ,like foreign policy of any democratic countries,do not always depend on individuals unlike in autocratic or authoritarian regimes ,where decisions rest on whimsical individuals at the top ruling the country. China's pincer of Arunachal and Kashmir, along with the black bishop in Sri Lanka on the Indian Ocean diagonals seems to be working. We are now looking at large troop deployments, increasing military expenses, lowered exports, expensive imports, and clipped geopolitical influence ( esp after Afghanistan ).
Two steps forward, one step back. This round goes to China.

You can deal with a tough enemy but not an unscrupulous enemy. They just want to buy time to do something about their economy. We did them another favour by declaring cease fire on LOC - they were able to redirect their forces to afgan border to support taliban. When will Indian leaders learn- the time to strike the enemy is when he is down and not when he is strong- let’s stop this Prithviraj mentality and get real.
All we need to do at this time is to mobilise similar to what we had done after parliament attacks. Their economy will collapse on its own- do we have the gumption or do we want to keep losing Indian lives. Do Indian lives not matter? Every day you see coffins coming home.

Pakistan is putting up a facade for FATF. Pak will never forgive India for Bangladesh creation. In any case China is the front for Pak. After Kailash range vacation by our Army to China, we should never make this same mistake. Economic collapse in pak is making pak govt to mend fence, but Army will not agree with politicians.

Pakistan is buying time, Cannot be trusted. No other army in the world has the tenacity and grit to have maintained a permanent base in Siachen for this long. A well researched and well presented episode.

I can't even imagine what the strategic planners in the military and mea echelons must be going through. China, Pakistan and India, this is the 'Great game' of our times. I wish we come out of it unscathed.
This is the usual trick used by Pak military. The Pak General will say they want peace but behind the scenes they have done whatever is possible to sabotage the relationship. in recent times only Musharraf had shown some intent after his Kargil misadventure. We have had hard time resolving Sir Creek dispute, which is a low hanging fruit. Thank you SG for the report.
India has never been trustworthy but Pakistan was naive enough to trusted India. India & Pakistan were committed to respect LoC as per Simla Agreement but India violated it and illegally occupied Siachin glacier in 1984. Tit fir tat, Pakistan caught India by neck at Kargil in 1999. There is a mountain of mistrust between 2 arch rivals. Can India & Pakistan live in peace? It depends on India. There is public opinion in Pakistan that since India never reconciled with the creation of Pakistan & it didn’t miss an opportunity in 1971 to disintegrate Pakistan therefore india will not miss any opportunity to further harm Pakistan in coming days. Pakistan always look towards China to safeguard her national independence. India’s huge amount of sophisticated weapons around the world has forced Pakistan to depend on its nuclear weapons as primary source of its 1st defence. Unfortunately India’s expansionist ambitions pushed it for so called cold start doctrine. As a smaller & weaker neighbor Pakistan takes such moves very seriously. Indian planners really don’t know that they will push their smaller & 10 times smaller enemy in a corner it will certainly react & react strongly. In my opinion India lives on Pakistan’s mercy it is not the other way around. Many Pakistanis ask this question to Indian leaders…was this a big price to held fair & free plebiscite in Kashmir in 1947 instead of grabbing it on gunpoint? So what if Kashmiri had voted for Pakistan. Both countries could have lived in peace like America and Canada as dreamed by Jinnah. But India’s dilemma was (and is) that it’s leadership from Nehru to Modi didn’t grow up. They always had (and have) small mentality. If India can’t solve Kashmir disputed with Pakistan peacefully it shows that it can play its role as a regional power. Remember Shallow Nehru rejected Pakistan’s offer of joint defence against China in 1962 India’s debacle. Rather taking it seriously Nehru made fun of it. It is never too late india should have big heart to move from its “atoot ang” mantra and offer Pakistan olive branch. Without solving Kashmir dispute there can be no peace. Isn’t Kashmir ambition is too big for india to live in war & conflict with Pakistan? Think of it!
Stretegic shift in PAK polity? NO. Its most likely tactical retreat to handle the economical crisis there. India must not fall for it. We must keep the heat up on them. We have to convincingly make them accept the status of Kashmir before we stop or accept any PAK pep talk.

There was an Article On Siachen in National Geographic in 2020 , where the drawing of straight line by American cartographer is stated. The Arti also writers visited Siachen from Pakistan side, Indian Authorities declined permission ( Rightly so ) . It’s detailed one with photos , maps.

Regarding India, they are not looking at maintaining NSP for five years; you will find everybody on the same page for the next fifteen years. The Pakistanis will never settle with the current border presence as a permanent control line or demilitarization. India stealthy and wrongfully climbed on heights and captured the Siachen glacier. India wants China to go back from Galwan but does not want o to vacate Siachen? What kind of hypocrisy is that? Gen. Nirvana's talk about Siachen is because the Indian military is under pressure to face China in the Ladakh area. Pakistan's economy is not doing good for sure, but their military spending is less than US$20billion a year. It does not matter how bad their economy is; they will ensure that their military has enough resources to challenge Indians from Sri Creek to Siachen. So, the prudent thing for India and its policymakers is to have some sense and make friendly policies for its neighbours, China and Pakistan. US$3trillion economy would not buy peace for India, only treating its neighbours with dignity, respect and accepting their rights on their territory may ensure stability, a simple principle. The purchase of Rafaels and S400s is a patchwork, not the solution to the challenges the Indian military and its people may face in the foreseeable future.
