I can see the angle from which traditionalists come from as I've similar views myself but, alot of people who claim to be traditional nowadays have a different, more liberal version of traditionalism than those who lived generations ago. He also held a speech at some Russian J' conference recently, where he openly talked about their overrepresentation in the leadership of the Bolshevik revolution and their leading role in the birth of the Soviet Union. And he's come out with a scathing talk about the leftist cultural revolution the West is undergoing recently, precisely comparing it to said Bolshevik revolution, implying he wasn't a fan of that one either. Putin is difficult to pin down. He was a staunch Russian patriot and even served in the KGB in the Soviet era, but he seems to be very critical of the Soviet Union, in some aspects atleast. Along with Yeltzin, he was one of the key figures leading to the dismantlement of the Soviet Union and to the liberalization of Russia, communist nostalgics being his main opposition. Although I've heard he's been suppressing Russian nationalists aswell. Putin seems to be a liberal at his core, albeit more of a right-leaning conservative one.

I hated Paradise lost and I think it's precisely because it's a sort of inversion of Dante. On the religious side of things Milton was noteworthy for being heterodox in a time of religious instability and was revolutionary to the core. This seems very apparent in his hatred of things like friars and monks, men who represent joyful obedience to God and order. Dante by contrast is a great praise of hierarchy and orthodoxy. Scarcely so in his case, as, Milton also authored the most compelling defence ever written of Freedom of Speech; a heavy contributor to why the later US First Amendment came to bind this liberty so closely with that of religion. For, in a Protestant society, with no valid, incontrovertible priestly cast to command and intermediate, free disputation becomes quite essential to actually saving souls… and how did he end up? As Oliver Cromwell’s chief censor, of course. ‘Twas ever thus, the man being no stranger to rank hypocrisy, in order to advance his upward trajectory.
Indeed, like as not, such double dealing is often how the very smartest who happen also to be humble-born have often managed to shoot up in life; if their talent is more in wordsmithery than innovation. If you’re born in a Bread Street slum stinking of the tanning shoe leather of cordwainers where all around you people are being brained by footpads and not far down the road many thousands gather every weekend to see those strung up at Newgate perform the Tyburn jig… telling elegantly rationalised whoppers to get yourself TF out of there must seem like pretty small beer.

When a woman is pregnant, she doesn't say, I am having a foetus. She is having a baby. She is with child. The entity which grows inside her is to become a human being, the highest form of earthy existence. The new born elephant, rat, or chicken, has already reached its potential. Yet many on the Left, suggest we should care less about the slower growing human being inside its mother's womb than any sentient animal that walks the Earth.
When we use language to describe the unborn human child, such as foetus, we devalue it, we divorce it from its potential. We are indoctrinated to believe, that taking the life of our unborn child, is no different from destroying a rat. Women who have had their baby killed in their womb, know in their hearts, that they have done wrong, and many live to regret their decision.
The fact is, that if they hadn't been exposed to the kinds of so called rational arguments of liberal philosophers, they would never have committed the act, and would know the joy of motherhood.

Virtually all leftists that I have known suffered from various rather serious character flaws from person irresponsibility to extreme aggression. However, what seemed to unite them all was a collective inability for introspection. An obese woman would blame her having to work for her inability to keep fit. A constantly impecunious man would blame "the rich" for his own lack of funds. None of them ever seemed willing to even consider that their problems began with themselves.
To a leftist, all problems begin with "someone else". I would not suggest that every problem we encounter in life is of our own making, but constantly blaming others and refusing to accept responsibility are actions of a child. The left attracts an infantile mind.

"However, what seemed to unite them all was a collective inability for introspection."
Quite a good observation there, and I agree completely. Leftism is for broken people who feel victimized -- the mindset of the nascent teenager, who is starting to feel the responsibilities of adulthood, but blames the parents in a very naive, shortsighted way. The Frankfurt School's psychiatric wing worked hard at destabilizing families with this vector -- look at Alice Miller's work, where she blames parents time and again for the foibles of a broken person's mind.
Miller's deception is that she leads her reader to the endpoint of hating parents/families, and doesn't help her reader realize that this phase of blaming one's parents for bringing one to life, it must be worked through with an animating spirit of self-respect and a drive to become fully human, taking complete responsibility for all of one's acts, thoughts, and motives.

The problems arise when people we didn't & don't harm are demanding our punishment or forcing us to provide recompense. I'm sure fundamentally weak people are naturally attracted to the left's structural-environmental explanation, but it must be taken into account that those of us who were raised on the left were taught to think in these terms when we were very small and impressionable. We internalized these things because we trusted our parents implicitly, like everyone does. My grandfather worked very hard, but I never heard once that this had any sort of consequence; instead, I was told that he and grandma lived comfortably because his union had negotiated well on his behalf. Never in my childhood was the individual mentioned as an entity with any meaningful amount of agency. It's a worldview that probably weakens you because you can never fully believe that your own actions matter or that you're in control of your own life, but it's not as simple as the left just attracting infantile minds.

Tremendous work, Morgoth! All of the revolutions that have happened since time began would pale into insignificance to what is happening right now, a World Revolution. It's as if this is the big push to end all uprisings. Woe to you, oh Earth and Sea... and all that. I'm not a religious man but must say I'm rooting for the Big Guy in all of this.

Here is an important issue: if God and religion and moral norms are essentially man-made, and are to a large extent a reflection of instincts we developed over tens and hundreds of thousands of years of evolution, then as much as we may delve into relativism and cynicism, we can still, given the right circumstances, reach back into that pool of instincts and sensibilities and bring God back as their incarnation. Or could it be that we have become so degenerate, with armies of 'spiteful mutants', that these ideas about God and objective morality can never be brought back, because these mutants don't have it in them any more? And will they simply annihilate themselves and the rest of humanity as well?

I just bought the book Paradise Lost based on your review today.
"We may with more successful hope resolve
To wage by force or guile eternal Warr
    Irreconcileable, to our grand Foe,
Who now triumphs, and in th' excess of joy
Sole reigning holds the Tyranny of Heav'n."
Satan is clearly incredibly intelligent and comes across like both a dictator and a liberator.
Thank you for introducing me to this classic, I am already enjoying it, but it feels almost evil to read.

What you'll find is that this morality vs utilitarianism shit is that it is very tactical and very much arbitrary at this part. If you go to a leftist and tell them to run the numbers and rationalize certain things amounting to skin complexion of people or say certain unresolved happenings in Central Europe around the 1940s and suddenly they become moral zealots

Mint episode Morgoth. Brilliant book for anyone here wanting to dig a bit deeper into this, and wanting all the sources too. Written in 1799 by a French Jesuit priest who fled to England from the French Revolution. Pretty heavy reading to be honest, It sort of lays out what Morgoth's saying, in a vicious level of detail with some Sherlock Holmes kind of investigating. Author ( Abbe Agustin Barruel ) - Book name ( The history of Jacobinism )
4 volumes anti monarchical conspiracy, the anti Christian conspiracy, but I think he most valuable for our time is the anti social conspiracy chapters 3 and 4

How did we get this far you ask?
We the people have taken our eyes off God.
    2 Timothy 3 1-5
But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away.
    The solution:
God is using this time to draw us closer to Him. Stand firm in His promises and keep your eyes upon Christ Jesus.
    2 Chronicles 7 14
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Abolutely hooked on this one from beginning to end! As to what should be done... honestly no idea, although what i would like ofcourse is a god emperor and a grand crusade to violently destroy this evil, marching through every city and town and cleanse it of all the filth.
But it seems what we have to do is hunker down, survive stick together, keep sane, keep true to ourselves and keeping our soul intact no matter what, learn new usefull enjoyable skills ( i started to grow food on an allotment for example ) move out cities, etc. this is more realistic i guess ( for now ).

@Tarka Dal yeah. It would need to be only sections or chapters at a time. Covering rhe whole book in one take is not really feasible, for one due to how insanely long it is, but secondly due to how different parts of it are from other parts. Beren and Luthien have a wildly different story than the battle of unnumbered tears for example.

I have this on my shelf too. Satan certainly gets all the best early lines “better to reign in Hell, than serve in Heaven.” Also you have to look at when it was written Charles I etc of which Milton staunchly opposed. The real hero is Michael who is a warrior, though in 2021 he would be told to tone down his toxic masculinity. The real villain is Eve who suffers from vanity. Eve in modern times would definitely be on TikTok telling “men they are trash.” She falls in love with her own image which leads to Satan transforming into a male feminist and sidling up and complimenting her on her beauty and godliness which turns Eve’s head and thus Satan easily persuades her to eat from the Tree of Knowledge.
