Mario has certainly stood the test of time. While his design started off buggy, Mario has generally retained his bright colors and whimsical nature since the 80s, and his series is still going strong. It's safe to say that I am a Mario fan for life. Good video, dude.
I miss the previous intro used to have. I like it more than the current one. Great video and I'm also very happy to notice that the cat wasn't being forced into the video a bunch of times. I much prefer not having to deal with you editing in the Cat every few minutes.
People only look at the second half of the Doki Doki Panic story. It actually started as SM2 and mid way through development they made a brand deal and changed the sprites to Doki Doki characters. USA got the original Sprites put back in. It's why certain creatures stayed as Mario characters, because they where always Mario characters. It also made an issue, as Nintendo promised they where making a SM2 and the original version got changed into Doki Doki panic. So they rushed out SM2 lost level to satisfy the people who want the sequal then and now, it's why it just used the same assets of the first game.
It didn't start as SMB2. SMB2 was conceptualized as a vertical platformer, it wasn't developed further than that before just doing "Lost Levels"... The only things that actually stayed are ShyGuy, Snifit, Bob-omb, Birdo, and Pokey. Everything else in that game only ever gets referenced occasionally and since nobody outside of Japan actually got Doki Doki Panic, there's no reason they couldn't just re-use that stuff as Mario brand enemies and items. Also most of the stuff they changed that isn't regular items aren't even that Mario-esque, just animated better, or not even that different from the original.

So if they used enemies from the original brand, then they would have been under the same copyright issues as the playable characters. He even said he sees Doki Doki panic as the true Mario 2 himself, it's why he saw it's development all the way through, while he hardly touched lost levels. Think of it this way, if Nintendo the company didn't make a brand deal, then Mario USA would have been Mario 2 world wide.

The dark areas on the 2000s renders are pretty much pitch black where in the 2010s renders you can still see red in the dark areas.

That bit never actually existed. It was a mistake from whoever ripped the sprites, the NES could only display 3 colours + transparency per sprite
