THIS GUY IS AWSOME WITH EXPLAINING WELL , BECAUSE OF THIS VIDEO I AM NO LONGER AFRAID TO DO MY OWN!
I'm getting ready to replace the carpet in my 2002 Ranger. You have the best instructional video I've watched. Learned a lot watching it.
Thanks bud 👊🏼 Good luck! 👍🏼
By far this is the best carpet install ! Very straight forward info ! And you can tell it's not his first rodeo **Nice job fella !
Viewers...I have done this a hundred of times and this guy knows what he is doing. So there would be no point making another video. Keep in mind every boat is different and each takes a little forethought. Take your time and be careful with the cuts because you don't want to ruin the carpet. Try to keep the grain of the carpet running in the same direction like the hair on a horse...so to speak. When laying it horizontally, make it smooth going down and rough coming up...that way it will look better.
This is the best boat carpet video on UA-cam.
Thanks bud!! I appreciate it!!
You’re right when you said that you don’t have to get all the glue off when cleaning up. Sometimes that old dried up glue makes for a better contact point for the new glue.
Great and informative video as well as a beautiful job! Thank you sir.
Very helpful video. I used your video to help with my older boat remodel. All carpet replaced. I carpeted storage covers first. When I was working on deck I used the carpeted covers to hold the edges of openings tight. Just pushed the carped lid down into the matching opening. Worked well. Again, thanks for your video, informative.
by far the best instructional video I've seen on this topic! I've got a 1995 Stratos in need of this exact job. I was going to pay someone to do this for me, but now I think I will attempt this myself.
Glad I could help! Thanks for watching 🤙🏼
Instead of marking where hinges screw holes are i used a needle to poke until i found the hole pretty easy to do. No doubt doing the lids are the most time consuming part. And do not forget folks the carpet needs to go in one direction will not look right if lids are cut in a different direction has the decks, remember this before cutting the carpet.
the best info instruction I've ever seen.
Great Video. Wonderful hints and suggestions from your experience so a BIG THAN YOU for sharing. After watching your video it has given me the confidence to do my 1992 Ranger 481V.
One thing I did notice that I will do differently is make sure to mark the direction to the bow on every lid bottom and make sure all the carpet has the grain running in the same direction. Probably turn new carpet over (before any cuts) and add a bunch of arrow direction marks to keep me in the correct direction too.
It is a small detail and not many would notice a difference. Look at the large front center lid in your video and see how the color shading is catching the light differently.
Thanks again for giving me the push i needed. Very nice editing job as well.
Best bass boat carpet video on UA-cam!
Thanks bud!! I really appreciate the support!! 👍🏼🎣
I realized after I was done with my first boat... paying attention to pile direction through out the job, you can really see it when its all together, some of my lids also had that different shade look.
I appreciate the explanation about the carpet adhesive as well as all the tips and tricks. IMO: The light tan carpet color looks better than the red.
Congratulations getting bass boat seats to reply to you. I have emailed them 3 times and got one reply. I have sent a detailed email to buy new seats and carpet and no luck at all. Nice work.
Absolutely awesome young man. You are an American craftsman. My 2004 Ranger 521 is getting new carpet. Thank you. Old Coach Fran
Thank you sir! I appreciate that and I’m glad I could help you out!
Outstanding job. It looks great. I would keep the grain of the carpet orientated the same all the way around the boat including the lids. Speaking from someone who has never done this before, lol. It was very informative. Now mine doesn't seem like such a task. Well done.
That was on my mind too! Make sure the nap is going the same direction on all pieces! It gives it a uniform look! If it isn't done, it will be highly noticeable! Damn good video!!!!
I was really questioning the tan carpet on that boat but wow it looks super clean! Awesome video great restoration!
Just a little tip for you next time you’re doing the cabinets when you’re putting the clamps on use shims to help seal that glue
It's amazing how much faster and easier it is to do a bass boat that has metal lids and fiberglass floor than a boat that is all the same thickness plywood.
Great job! My only concern would be those corners on the lids. I think the better way to do it is to leave a strip that will fold over the corner itself and then connect the seems on both sides of that strip
Awesome job, very helpful 👏 my only critique is you should cut the carpet out in the same direction so you can't see the carpet grain going in different directions.. 😀
That is a project I'll need to do in another year or two ! And I'm dreading it already ! Get n ready to watch your video ! Thanks for share n your work !!!
Add very informative, thank you for taking the time to show us this.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the entertainment, we've all had those days.
The carpet needs to always be run the same direction or it will look different colors; I know as I made this mistake on my first carpet job. Think of it as if the carpet had arrows on it and you want the arrows to all point toward the front of the boat, you can't rotate a lid 90 degrees and cut it out to save carpet or the arrows will be pointing to the side of the boat (the lid will look way darker or lighter than the deck). It takes way more carpet but it is very noticeable if you just lay the carpet to use the least amount of carpet.
Nice job I’m looking at getting a skeeter 202 and it has red carpet that I will be replacing. This was the best video I’ve seen thanks.
Glad I could help!
Much appreciated!!! I was one lid in and then came to UA-cam and watched your video, big help on the corner cuts thanks!!!
Glad I could help!🤙🏼 be sure to subscribe cause I’ve got some big stuff coming for my Skeeter build this year.👍🏼
@@KayakUSA1 instantly subbed :) lids are almost done and cured, I will post a video response in the next few weeks of my 1986 Procraft restoration
wow what a good video, very detailed and practical. Wish you were by South Dakota to do my Lund i just bought. WIll need it within 3 years. I bet your the best gift wrapper during xmas..lol
Great job on carpet installation, i used a sharp punch tool to find my holes that i needed to use and i also happened to use the baggies for my screws after i told myself how am i going to know where they all go. I also used a rolling pin to smooth out the wrinkles in the carpet.
Excellent video. I just bought my firs boat with a motor. It's functional, but a fixer upper cosmetically speaking.
I completely re carpeted my 1997 ZX185 3 years ago. I ordered the carpet from Bass Boat Carpet. I was nervous as heck but I am extremely pleased with how it turned out.
Very nice! I have a Procraft 1750 dual console that looks exactly like this one in the video. I was hoping that the video showed how you carpeted around the dual console an easy way
.
You might point out the orientation or lay of the carpet, if you turn it 90 deg or reverse it, it can look different. In other words it should run the same from the front of the boat to the back. Looking at the reverse side can help you.
Yea, he cut it with different grain directions, I can tell on that front lid. Other than that very nice job.
I saw that on the second segment. The flow of the grain was not maintained. It’ll look different from the other sections. You gotta keep the grain the same throughout the project.
Question regarding the front deck removal, and laying of the new carpet. How do you get the carpet pulled up around the black trim around the edges of the deck? Also how do you go about tucking the new carpet back in around the trim? Hope that wasnt too confusing. Great video by the way!!! I need to do my carpet badly!
Nice job!!
My bass boat is going to need carpet in the near future. Thanks for great video!!
Fantastic video! I did my whole boat following your DIY the whole way. Incredible content, thank you!
Thanks Ryan! Glad I could help!!
Great instructional video. Will be using this for a reference when I do my boats.
Man that came out cleaner than skeeters peter...good job
Great video! I am swapping a gravely zero turn mower that’s not running for the same boat you have in this video. Only deal with the boat is the 90 Suzuki is blown. I plan to use the Yamaha promotion to repower it with a 115hp. It will be a full restoration with electronics, motor, troll motor, and carpet. Like you said, you knew where the boat had been. In my case, I am the same. My uncle has had the boat since new. Thanks for this video!
Keep in mind the thickness of the new carpet. Those hatches fit pretty tight. If the new carpet is thicker you might have some problems as the hatches might not close.
If your carpet ends up being too thick, there are ways to "shave" it or thin it out at the edges of the lid.
What kind of carpet do I need to make a good contact with the glue? I'm glueing it down to fiberglass. I wanna make sure it has a good hold and don't come up
Just starting to rebuild my deck and carpet! You inspired me!
Dale Durham Thanks man!! Good luck with it!! 🤙🏼🎣
You good very good work. I had a boat with light carpet. Never again I couldn’t keep it clean and every stain stuck out like a sore thumb.
I used chalk and carpet shears versus using a knife, it was cumbersome using the shears but I had good straight lines. On the edges of my lids I used clamps with some 1\4 by 1" wood strips and it worked great holding the edges.
That's what i would do as well - clamp some boards on both sides for a super tight, even bond.
I ordered some new seats for my 94 alumaweld exspress $100 cheaper for the same seats as other places glad i found this site on your video
You did an excellent job very professional Thanks for the video
I'm watching this wondering how did you cut and glue the pedestal hole so it looks clean?
I’m getting ready to do my 97 basscat. Great video.
Nice job and well made video it will definitely help me when I do mine
I always watch you on instagram this is my first time watching you on youtube!!
changing carpet is hard work!
I enjoyed your video!!
I like bass boat. from Japan!
Thanks buddy!! 👍🏼🎣
Great time saving tips. Nice job on the Skeeter. Thanks for sharing.
use an orbital sander with some 80 grit paper and itll knock that old glue down really quick. nice video, im getting motivated to recarpet my boat now.
I may be re carpeting this boat again soon.. 😳 I’m getting it wrapped this season and I want gray carpet to match.. 😂 So be on the lookout for an updated carpet video, if I can get this new glue off.. lol
This video brought back many memories for me....I had a 1987 Procraft 175 that was the same color scheme as your Skeeter. I actually ended up replacing the carpet 2 times, once with black and the final time with the tan like you did here. By far, one of the most satisfying boat renovations I've ever done. Since then, I've re carpeted my Stratos 201 2 times as well. Great tips you shared, especially the note about marking the boat side of the hinge, saves you so much time and headaches. Great job brother!
Thanks man!! 🤙🏼🎣
Im about to start my carpet replace on the same skeeter boat! Thx for the tip.
No problem bud! Thanks for watching and good luck 👍🏼
That looks amazing. Great video !!
You can cut small notches in your paint scraper with tin snips for spreading adhesive,
Installed carpet in my Jackson Big Rig Kayak! Makes a massive difference believe me!
about time for ya to do another one i have one all cleaned up and ready for carpet so grab your camera and cmon to mississippi
Appreciate your sharing of knowledge. Wish you'd have left off the music, maybe did voice over the speeded up video, but am glad to watch how you did this carpet.
Spray contact adhesive works best. That is what boat manufacturers use. Recarpeted 8 brand new bass boats for a dealer that company sent me supplies for.
This is the best video, good job
Just a tip from a veteran carpet layer of 28 years for u guys that are gonna carpet your own boat, get some adhesive remover called AFTA gets the fuzz and glue off your hands knuckles and anywhere else that gets glue on it and yea your gonna get glue on ya , plus grind down some old screw drivers till their like ice picks you can poke them through the lid bracket holes one on each end of bracket all other holes will line right up lots more but not enough room to write good luck guys and tight lines
When I do lids, I use the carpet glue only on the face then let it dry overnight. I then use two coats of3M contact cement on the sides and inside parts. Contact cement is instant stick on contact and nothing moves around.
Fantastic job Brother thanks for the video
Great install video. Great tips throughout.
I have a 2003 Deep V 16 how do you get the floor board out. Do you have a video for removing floor board and carpeting
Have you ever installed padding under the carpet ? Would love to see a video on that .
I have but I don’t think I’ve ever filmed it, I did install it under the carpet on my Kayak Camping Trailer build, check it out on my channel.
Merry Christmas!
What a great DYI information video!!!! Good job Thanks. Now it will be as simple to make my bassboat.
Did you put the carpet under the outside edge black trim on the forward deck?
What is the big difference in choosing a 16 to 20 oz carpet size?
Again thansk Patrick
No, and the 20oz is thicker and much softer when fishing with bare feet! Thanks for watching! 👍🏼
I did this for a living at Lake Erie.
Looks Good... Wish you would have showed how you got the carpet around the edges of the rubber tube at the edge if the boat... I helped rebuild the floor and put new carpet in a boat back in the late 70's we had to replace rotted wood build new stingers and supports and re-fiberglass the floor... It was a big job but turned out great...
I used a putty knife to slide or tuck the carpet under the trim.
Just stumbled upon this vid. Def an awesome break down...was looking for the glue you used cant seem to find it..what exactly kinda glue did you use?
Looks like this: TEC Skill Set Outdoor Carpet www.lowes.com/pd/TEC-Skill-Set-Outdoor-Carpet-Adh-1-Gallon-Pack-Carpet-Flooring-Adhesive-1-Gallon/50416384
Tan is gonna look great, yeah I’m only 3 min into the video but as soon as you said tan I was sold! I ran tan on my green war eagle Jon boat because the war eagle decals were tan and it looked great!
I love it man! I fished out of it for the first time this morning with the new carpet and is was great!
Tan looks great! I'm just a little concerned about if it stains? Now that you have had it for awhile, does it get dirty easy?
It hasn’t stained on me yet but I do have to keep it clean because everything shows up on it lol , I may have some videos on this boat coming up where I wrap it and change the carpet again... 😉🤫
@@KayakUSA1 Which ounce of carpet did you use?
Great video and nice boat even with sun fade. About to do my 1998 Hydra Sports 196sc. One comment I may have missed is , Did you mention the importance of making sure to have the nap in the carpet all running front to back, Ive seen that mistake made.
when doing carpet on sealing and side wall can I use paste instead of spray. also, I think I need thiner carpet for ceiling thanks Eddie
Yep 👍🏼
Old video and I'm not sure if it was said but make sure you mark your carpet with arrows towards the front of the boat. Otherwise you end up with carpet that the shades of color are off. I can tell from the lids yours is not facing the same way. And how you made the cut for the back deck was totally opposite of the front deck.
I had a boat just like that, I bought it new and it had tan carpet in it.
Im getting ready to recarpet my 1986 Baja fish & ski. Question: how do you measure for the correct length/width?
Merry Christmas! You the man!
Love the Way your carpet come out in your boat I have an 89 Skeeter SF175 bought my carpet from bass boat seats.com only trouble I had with my carpet was after I cut it and glued it in the ends and edges started to fray it doesn’t look so good anymore was not impressed with the carpet
I have been doing boats for 40 years and the carpet I got from BassBoatsSeats.Com was the worst carpet I have ever bought, The fraying was awful, had rubber backing missing,They sent me another roll and it was worse than the first roll, I videoed unwrapping it and showed them,And the vendor told them that was the way it was supposed to be.... But great job on the boat, Looks like they sent you some good carpet...
The glovebox reminds me of a microwave… boat looks great bud!
🍻
It does! 😂
Great video, need to do my 95 17' Ranger next Summer.. I need to figure out how to remove my seats though, they need to be replaced too, Skeet looks pretty simple, but My ranger I believe is different as it doesn't want to budge.
Did a partial on my front deck of a procraft fish a ski (1999) 3 years ago. working on the back and flooring now. One thing I made a mistake on. One of the front deck lids. I did not match the running pattern of the carpet and the one lid was very noticepal that something was wrong, had to rip off and re-do. deck lid had an angled edge. video was great, Thanks.
I did my old boat and it was well worth it , Excellent job bud ... got the same glue from lowes , good stuff ....going to do my range in the same black carpet ....question , I need the 8 1/2 foot for a 20 ft ranger 520vx how many ft should I get ? Thanks
Thanks, I’d order 25’ or more to be safe
Merry Christmas kayak usa
Nice job! I had my ‘93 ZX175 (same color scheme) done in a dark grey so I didn’t think the tan would go well but you convinced me otherwise. On a side note, I cracked my passenger side wind screen and would love to find a replacement if anyone here knows where I could find one. Those ‘94 screens look identical.
UPD Plastics
What oz carpet do you prefer 16, 20 or 24 for comfort, wear and ease of installation? Great video Thank you.
24oz 👍🏼
Great video. I only wish my carpet look 1/8 as good as your ratty carpet! So I don't have a templet. Also I notice you didn't reinstall the upper deck in the front. That is something I would like to add to my EbbTide
Do you think you could use outdoor carpet? I was given outdoor carpet for free and was wanting to use that
Merry Christmas.
Damn fine job !!!!! I know how hard this is because I did my 17 ft aluminum and it took me 6 weeks with new decking....
Thanks man!!🤙🏼
Merry Christmas TJ
You did a great job and your video is very informative, BUT in my humble opinion that could have been the worst color to use for keeping clean looking. I know you chose it to complement the color of the boat, but I'm curious to see what it looks like after 2 years. My 2002 Tracker Pro Deep V16 boat came with a light beige carpet a few shades darker than the carpet you chose and it looks like crap and extremely difficult to keep clean from dirt, fish slime, fish blood, etcetera. I'm going with a medium to slightly darker than medium grey. Your video will really help me out. I have a wood floor though throughout the boat deck that I will need to unscrew and lift out first. I will glue but will also staple the carpet 2 inches past onto the bottom of the plywood floor. Thanks for your efforts in putting this video together.
How long does it take for that glue to dry? And when you cut you holes for you seat poles, just use you box cutter, like how do you make that a clean cut?
right on BrrruH! going to do my boat carpet now.
Merry christmas
Man I wish you lived local. I really could use someone with your talents to restore my 1983 Bass Tracker tournament tx that I picked up.
It’s not as hard as it looks. I’m sure you could do it your self.
One more thing, I can’t find the Henry 263 glue in stores what would use?
