Macy's closing stores as focus shifts

- Macy’s will close 150 unproductive namesake stores over the next three years, including 50 by year-end. The company made the announcement Tuesday after posting a fourth-quarter loss and declining sales. As part of the strategy, Macy’s aims to upgrade its remaining 350 stores, with plans to add more salespeople to fitting areas and shoe departments, while adding more visual displays like mannequins. At the same time the company signaled a pivot to luxury, which has fared better overall.

Out of control theft, the usual suspects ruin it for everybody.
Bloomingdale's (the high-end brand) wouldn't be expanding if theft was the issue. The real problem for department stores is the death of the middle class.

Internet is causing these store to close. Also the threat of road rage and in store violence also.
And the closing malls don't help. Most of retailing is suffering
I had the opportunity to work for Macy's and shop at Macy's. It disappoints me about the stores closing but also it's the high inflation that is affecting all businesses and shrinkage. It's abnormal times.
They should sell the one in Manhattan. The land alone has to be worth over a billion dollars.

Y'all need to scan legal ID or show and ID to an employee alongside our grocery store or shopping retail identification, to enter. Doors shouldn't open and be bullet proof or metal. Semi automatic doors. Help our foreign brands and luxury brands too.
The on in the Broadway Mall (Long Island, NY) closed years ago! Things are going upscale, Walt Whitman mall is fully of $$$$ stores.
if I wanted luxury goods I go to Saks or Bergdorf. This is a bad move.
