As far as that tiktok about books in bins, I'm speaking as a Librarian who spent considerable time working youth services, books being removed from a collection does not inherently equal censorship. In fact, often it can mean a move towards a more progressive collection. The man in the video said the school was doi g routine weeding which is 1000% normal. Many if not most books that get weeded ARE history and science books, but really old ones that tend to have outdated language and information. If you look at the books in the video its clear they are around 30 pkus years old. In fact, some of the worst and most conservative leaning library collections are ones that don't weed. I worked at a library that had gone so long without weeding that there were books like the bell curve, and books that used what are now considered slurs as "scientific " terms. To truly make a call on if weeding is an act of censorship you need to look at the replacement process too. Almost always, replacements are books on the same topic with updated language/latest info. Often times, replacement copies lean more progressive for that reason. Yes, I realize, it's Florida. But tons of vaushs viewers don't live in Florida and libraries weed EVERYWHERE, and it's clear based on the response here that a lot of yall aren't aware of that so I'm just saying this as a way of imploring yall, if you see this happening at your local library, please don't immediately start filming and antagonizing the librarians. We deal with enough of that shit already from the right.

I noticed this trend a ton in most candidates in 2020 and 2022 races (when I first started paying attention). I think it's a thing that all candidates do, in the sense of "we're going to fix this", because it makes them come off as a member of a community instead of an authoritarian force, or something like that. Desantis does seem to mess up those media training lines quite often though. Maybe he messes it up because he has to try extra hard to not sound self-centered, or maybe that analysis is my hate for him talking. It could just be he's not good at understanding media training or something.

I lived in Florida for 4 years, left during covid. He’s spot on with everything when he describes it. There are plenty of people who should vote left. But just don’t vote as they feel like they truly don’t have a voice. It’s also the one state I loved that felt like it was split 50/50 between scammers and their victims.
When he said "...places like germany where we don't have a reliable power grid ..." is infuriating. I am german, almost 43. I can count the power outages i have expirienced in my life on one hand. Our power grid is extremely reliable. And prices only spiked when the government announced that they would cover all power cost above 40ct/kwh. Literally the next day almost all companies doubled their prices to profit off of that. That has nothing to do with our infrastructure. It is just a money grad by greedy corpos due to a rushed and poorly implemented policy.
Two things I would note: On housing in Florida it’s cheap because they are just sprawling into wet lands and other areas, which will mean hurricane damage only gets worse, and the municipal budgets are absolutely headed for crisis because they have no density or public transit. Second you have to remember Florida and Texas push the tax burden onto sales tax which is an underhanded way to just make poor peoples lives incredibly expensive relative to their incomes and the incomes of rich people. In both instances the state relies in an insane way on what ‘strong towns’ ( a non profit that urges resilient and fiscally sustainable city planning) calls the growth Ponzi scheme. If they start to see net migration go negative they’re screwed.
FL doesn't only rely on never-ending growth of the internal economy. It also relies on hordes of tourists flocking in and buying crap. That's what makes DeSantis's feud with Disney so insane.

As far as that tiktok about books in bins, I'm speaking as a Librarian who spent considerable time working youth services, books being removed from a collection does not inherently equal censorship. In fact, often it can mean a move towards a more progressive collection. The man in the video said the school was doi g routine weeding which is 1000% normal. Many if not most books that get weeded ARE history and science books, but really old ones that tend to have outdated language and information. If you look at the books in the video its clear they are around 30 pkus years old. In fact, some of the worst and most conservative leaning library collections are ones that don't weed. I worked at a library that had gone so long without weeding that there were books like the bell curve, and books that used what are now considered slurs as "scientific " terms. To truly make a call on if weeding is an act of censorship you need to look at the replacement process too. Almost always, replacements are books on the same topic with updated language/latest info. Often times, replacement copies lean more progressive for that reason. Yes, I realize, it's Florida. But tons of vaushs viewers don't live in Florida and libraries weed EVERYWHERE, and it's clear based on the response here that a lot of yall aren't aware of that so I'm just saying this as a way of imploring yall, if you see this happening at your local library, please don't immediately start filming and antagonizing the librarians. We deal with enough of that shit already from the right.

I noticed this trend a ton in most candidates in 2020 and 2022 races (when I first started paying attention). I think it's a thing that all candidates do, in the sense of "we're going to fix this", because it makes them come off as a member of a community instead of an authoritarian force, or something like that. Desantis does seem to mess up those media training lines quite often though. Maybe he messes it up because he has to try extra hard to not sound self-centered, or maybe that analysis is my hate for him talking. It could just be he's not good at understanding media training or something.

So I’m confused he cannot still be governor if he’s running, the Florida legislature did pass a bill recently which allows that (one of many examples of incredibly blatant and brazen corruption) but A. At the time of his announcement he hadn’t signed it yet (though I think he has by now) and B. It doesn’t go into effect until July, so like is just being allowed to blatantly violate Florida law or is technically not the governor already?
It really doesn't matter. If anyone cares enough to oppose it, it'll either be followed in October by a three-year long FBI investigation that will be ignored the whole time, or be overruled by a random circuit court in a completely unrelated state that we allow to affect the laws of other states for some reason. We have no effect on either of these outcomes.

I lived in Florida for 4 years, left during covid. He’s spot on with everything when he describes it. There are plenty of people who should vote left. But just don’t vote as they feel like they truly don’t have a voice. It’s also the one state I loved that felt like it was split 50/50 between scammers and their victims.
When he said "...places like germany where we don't have a reliable power grid ..." is infuriating. I am german, almost 43. I can count the power outages i have expirienced in my life on one hand. Our power grid is extremely reliable. And prices only spiked when the government announced that they would cover all power cost above 40ct/kwh. Literally the next day almost all companies doubled their prices to profit off of that.
That has nothing to do with our infrastructure. It is just a money grad by greedy corpos due to a rushed and poorly implemented policy.

Two things I would note:
On housing in Florida it’s cheap because they are just sprawling into wet lands and other areas, which will mean hurricane damage only gets worse, and the municipal budgets are absolutely headed for crisis because they have no density or public transit.
Second you have to remember Florida and Texas push the tax burden onto sales tax which is an underhanded way to just make poor peoples lives incredibly expensive relative to their incomes and the incomes of rich people.
In both instances the state relies in an insane way on what ‘strong towns’ ( a non profit that urges resilient and fiscally sustainable city planning) calls the growth Ponzi scheme. If they start to see net migration go negative they’re screwed.

As someone who lives in Florida the cost to living situation is pretty bad. I live in a college town and unless you commute to one of the big cities for work that pays just the bare minimum you can't afford to live. The rent might be cheaper but the cost to living ratio is pretty shit.
I’ve always found nativism in the Americas (not only the US) especially funny. It is almost like after getting the land from the cold dead hands of the guy there before they start to worry about the guy in the next boat doing the same to them.
