    What's funny is that the media initially thought that Desantis had a better chance of wining than Trump because they thought he appeared to be the *more moderate* of the two.

      Disliked Desantis right from the beginning, but overkill bashing is frowned, so it wasn't until last year that Desantis provided plentiful ammunition. MSM had always been slow to react and too white collar for my tastes - blue collar journalists are much smarter in some areas, which is why it's a shame they are not used far more often.

      CNN and idiots like Russel Brand actually think he's "electable" because he is calmer than Trump despite his clearly more aggressively bigoted agendas here, and thats all moderates seem to care aboutis just if "he looks composed".

      He originally ran for Governor as someone more moderate, but realized he needed to position himself to the right of Trump in order to have a shot at the GOP nomination. That’s why everything about him, while awful, is so fake. He has to step down at the end of 2026, so he’ll have no national platform to base a run off of in 2028. So his window is basically now.

      The people that support this shit are a very small, but VERY vocal part of the GOP. They’ve managed to hijack their party’s primary process, so that they can inject their candidates, but they have vanishingly little hope in the general, where they continue to lose state and federal races by increasingly large margins.
      It’s really up to the GOP’s moderate base to seize control of their primary process, but asking moderates who aren’t politically active to suddenly get politically active is a losing scenario. It’s much more likely that the GOP just collapses like the Whig Party and something else takes its place.

    Back in the 90s, I had a history teacher who talked about how if you really heard Hitler speak before he got into power and really understood what the Germans in the Weimar Republic felt and dealt with in terms of the chaos going on, you could really understand how people fell for it. He even went so far as to say he would bet half our class would have joined his party. Sometimes thinking about that is uncomfortable and kind of cringey, right? But you illustrated the exact reason why he was not wrong. Fascists simply cannot be as terrible as they can be until they seize power. They'll dog whistle or say some things that clearly indicate they have feelings and leanings, but they'll also say other things that will appeal to people in the middle or barely left too. Then, once sworn in, the switch is flipped to "Even More Evil" and it cascades down from there into Spain, Italy, and Germany of that era. The absolute worst things you can deal with when it comes to a fascist is one who is a combination of a good speaker and charismatic (two things DeSantis is not).

    • @wplants9793
      @wplants9793 Рік тому +2

    My theory is that DeSantis's team retweeted the video because it contained that emblem, as an attempt to signal to other Nazis that he is one of them. They then quickly deleted the tweet to try to fake plausible deniability, so they can pretend they didn't know that it was a Nazi symbol when they get called out for it. That was the intent, since the mere act of retweeting the video would be sufficient to send the dog whistle even after the tweet was deleted, because any Nazis who were not online for the initial retweet would still hear about it through the residual reporting of the drama after the fact and receive DeSantis's intended message loud and clear.

    The boycott and the whole outrage, happened after the dip began.
    So, the boycott didnt really do anything. The behaviour of "rise, steady, fall" happens a lot in stock prices, as what happens is "price goes up, people sell, some people buy cuz its going up, sellers/buyers cancel eachother out and stabilize for a while, more sellers than buyers->it goes down, as it goes down, people sell before it gets to the previous level, it goes below the old level, and then people begin to buy because A)not many are selling since they got in at the old level, and B) its a dip from the old level and its expected to go back to there."

    1:14 It worries me that this campaign strategy seems to mimic trump’s? Like it’s clearly even farther-right and not as “fun” as what trump sloganed, but it’s similar in the way that he’s shouting about (almost purposefully) more and more outrageous promises.
    Like Trump’s slogan was “build the wall and make mexico pay for it”, which is ridiculous. Not only the prospect of just building a wall on our southern border but also somehow getting mexico to agree to cover all the costs. But it worked to put him in power at least…

    • @jacobunderwood4957
      @jacobunderwood4957 Рік тому

      The wall was a side point. We lefties elevate it because it's so easy to pick apart. Trump's most resonant slogans were "Make America Great Again" (which is much more racially ambiguous than "build the wall" rhetoric) and "America First". These slogans were his focus and the first things you hear from his voter base because the normies can convince themselves that it's not racist or isolationist, it's just a sensible preference toward American interests. The fascist voters know they need to mask up some, so they say these things first to throw people off their true intentions, which are largely unattractive to normies/centrists.
      It's much more difficult for lefties to point out how insane "Make America Great Again" ideology is, because conservative voters truly believe that the left doesn't act in America's interest (because they don't care enough to understand empirical cause and effect); lefty policy legitimately looks 'woo-woo' to them, and so must be evil. So you have to change their beliefs before you can even begin to effectively argue against MAGA ideology.
      DeSantis has "Make America Florida" showing up in part because he knows he needs to mask-up for some of the normies, he likely has future plans for toning down the fascist pandering for the general election. For now, he panders less to centrist voters because he thinks this will let him come out on top of Trump by taking Trump's fascist base, which appears to be Trump's most diehard cohort. Unfortunately for DeSantis, those cowards already latched their emotional attachments onto Trump. They can't just detach and realign with DeSantis, it's not how their hierarchical ideology works, it's not how the messiah complex works. Trump has to die or disappear for them to become 'free agents' again; or maybe he just needs to go to jail.
      There's a lot of intelligence in how carefully DeSantis is walking this line. It actually could work, even as messy and ugly as it looks. The sense comes from the insane fascist cohort, which DeSantis seems to understand a lot better than Trump.

      It's everywhere online. When I was 15-17 I was Facebook friends with a bunch of "shitposters". This didn't go for everyone I met there, but for the most part, these goobers were flinging dogwhistles back and forth day in day out. I went from assuming these were memes, and they were being antisemitic ironically, to actually being radicalized and coming to believe much of what was being flung back and forth myself. Right-wingers love to cry propaganda on the most innocuous of things, yet they never examine how they came to their beliefs in the first place.

    If you compare the dip from the Bud Light boycott with others in the past three years, you can see it's actually small in comparison to others. And if you compare it with the life of the company, it basically doesn't exist.
    Also, does that mean that we can sue any company, as long as we boycott it at the same time their value goes down?

    I like the distinction between “ghoul” and “demon”. Ghouls are undead ravenously trying to consume everything in their wake while retaining human-like features that remind us of what could have been. Demons on the other hand are beings of pure chaos intent on total destruction of all life with no reasonable motive. The metaphors really do make sense, don’t they?

    The circular symbol in that video is the "Schwarze Sonne" (German: the Black Sun), a sun-wheel symbol central to the SS in Nazi Germany. It was originally found on the floor of the Wewelsburg castle in Büren, Germany. The castle was acquired by Heinrich Himmler, the leader of Hitler's SS in 1933. The unique thing about the symbol is that it incidentally contains 12 s-shaped symbols, later interpreted to be the "sig" rune, which was acquired by the SS in their signature double-rune symbol, meaning victory (German: "sieg"). In their double usage, this might mean "double victory" or more likely, "Victory!" with some manner of an exclamation point or emphasis about it. This is the same word used in the famous Nazi salute, which I will not cite here -- but which is well known and can easily be found on the internet, for historical references.
