Reason #4: People are tired of paying high (damn near scalper) prices for used gear.
It has gotten absurd. Not only in the price, but the condition that the seller will list items
Marx's Commodity Fetishism...
I sold 4 guitars in the last 6 months and definitely took a loss. But knowing that someone out there is going to play them instead of collecting dust, sits very well with me.
that's a good mindset. what kinda guitars were they? imports or usa stuff?
Good on you, man. Sometimes, it worth the loss just to have had and played them and then to make someone else happy.
dont worry about what white money man says (and he does love showing off the money in him) which seems very insulting and racist if you black like me cause we are human not apes evolved but any how, he is using fear mongering about used gear, I love buying and selling used gear, especially pedals.
Mine sit in a rack and that helps inspire to pick each one up at different times... player guitars . No case queens. But I found if I kept them in cases they definitely got ignored. Like my jackson Kelley till today lol
Bro is your name a Kalmah reference
Not sure how I feel about all this. I lost all my gear in 2020 when my house burned down and getting decent used gear since has not been easy due to the prices. But, I hate to see people lose money trying to sell gear in a buyer's market. In the past I'd only sell gear when I REALLY needed money, so people now in that situation, not a great thing.
Please tell me your home insurance covered most of it
@Jeff_HellensBridge Unfortunately no. Not sure it would have made a difference anyway, I didn't have super expensive gear, it was more cool used stuff that I had accumulated over the years and sentimental stuff, rather than the kind of gear I could just order from Sweetwater if I had the money.
@@mattcallaway7164Sorry to hear about that man, glad you're ok, though.
Inflation destroys savings and disposable income, nuff said.
That's good news, I couldn't stand the inflated prices bur the sad part is most of this is due to the rising inflation and no one is buying
The inflation rate has been dropping for months now. It peaked at around 9% and now is at 4%
People that didn't even play were buying, people that didn't even play that had money were buying thinking that they were collectors only to realize they weren't. Good the market needs to balance back out.
Ya, people aren't buying like they used to, that is for sure. I have a Bogner Ecstasy listed locally for pre COVID prices...not getting a sniff. Not even any offers! 😢
Same here. I’ve only bought one guitar in the past 3 years bc I can’t stomach the used prices, knowing what they were prior. The one I bought was from a Gibson employee so it was extremely fairly priced of course, but all of the pieces I’ve wanted to add going for 20-40% more than their value in 2019 has been tough to see. Hopefully it balances the industry back out and doesn’t go too far
@@gabrielstevens41what you meant is that the REPORTED inflation is ALLEGEDLY dropping. Which is false.
Biggest problem on Reverb, people lying saying it’s damaged to get a return. To get it back to find nothing wrong with it.
Been holding off on gear purchases for over 3 years and squirreled away a few bucks for when and if the Market comes down. I bought a Peavey 5150 8 years ago for $400 sold it for $500 a year later. Today folks want $1200 for that exact amp.
Yep. Bought my 1990 Mesa Mark IV head for $800 in 2017 and an “artist” grade CU24 for $1850 in 2018. Prices that are reasonable and obtainable. Fast forward to 1 year ago Mark IV’s were going for over $2k 😂. Stupid
Same. I bought one with now marks or rust, new Sovteks and caps for $450 in '16 or '17.
Haha there's a guy around here that wants 4500 dollars for his half stack 5150. A head that can be bought new if you don't care that the badge reads 6505 for 1700 and it's paired with a cab most people don't want. 4500 bucks. It's been listed for at least 6 months now....😂
People were trying to sell obviously broken Teisco's for over 300 bucks at the height of the gear hype which is insane! I'm glad that there's a correction coming because the hyper inflated prices were really pricing people out of having cool cheap gear which you could throw around (with minimal regret.)
@@brandonharris9160damn, who hurt you? 😂
As someone who is just getting back into playing music after almost 15 year hiatus I have been extremely happy with my used gear scores. I feel bad getting stuff so cheap but it is what it is and admitedly I have paid more than asking a couple times and still made out like a bandit. I appreciate it and have worked/cleaned up everything and I use it all almost eveyday. Sucks stuff is so cheap and people are losing cash but, now is the time to start a budget collection if you are into guitar etc.
Great video!!
cant go as far as to say its greedy to want the most for your valuable merchandise, but allowing someone to experience what we have as veteran musicians is dope af. thanks for sharing, well put together
I think we're really reaching the turning point of modelers/plugins being more used or valued than analog gear. Just as the older guys age and younger players become more interested in cheaper, and lighter modelers. Wouldn't be surprised if those vintage Gibson, Fender, Marshalls that were worth 100s of thousands previously start dropping in value.
Not really, it's simply a reflection of the global economy. It's cyclical. Watch when the next boom begins how much more classic vintage hardware and quality real equipment increases. You'll never ever make money buying a licence for a plug in. Modellers will always decrease. Remember Line 6 pros? Look how much they depreciated. Kempers will follow the same pattern because behind the software they are merely metal containers and software always becomes outdated. A vintage Gibson will always retain value but in tough times people buy less so its natural prices falter.
Not agreeing or disagreeing, but would like to add that selling plugins/vst is way less practical than physical gear. For example, If I wanted to sell omnisphere, not only would I have to make sure every session I have used it on is committed to audio so I dont lose it, you have to pay a license transfer fee for it, and some developers dont even allow license transfers.
Been noticing a decrease in price for a couple of months now on a local website. Amps, cabs, speakers, etc. seem to go for far less than they're supposed to. Been getting some incredible deals
Sorry Kyle, but I like watching the used market crash. I’ve seen it happen in the past. Back in 2008 when the housing market crashed so did the used/vintage market. it needed a correction then it needs a correction now. But your analysis is spot on.
The difference this time is inflation. There will be some deals, but once the deals are gone and things stabilize prices will be permanently higher on everything.
Inflation is down to 4% from 9%. Used gear has dropped way more than. 9%.
@@DM-il1hf Maybe in the Democrat Twilight Zone bud. Not in America. Inflation is actually around 30%. Stop listening to CPI idiots and democrats.
It makes sense. Thank you, Kyle. Love your videos. Good luck to you.
I think a big part of it is exactly what you said. People took up guitar during the pandemic and now have no time for it as things get back to normal. Also, i think a lot of folks are switching to modelers and getting rid of their amps and pedals
I flip a lot of personal gear and have definitely noticed that it’s getting hard to sell stuff right now and stuff I’m looking to buy just sits unsold, but also prices aren’t coming down so it’s just stagnant.
My guitar store has a stiletto trident stage 2 and two 4x12 in matching croc tolex. I love those amps so its not garbage to me. But his price was lower and i asked if he wanted to sell the head and he asked 100 less than for all of it. Now its almost doubled in price and he keeps asking me “you wanna buy that stiletto stack?” I dont have the heart to tell him “yea for 500 less than your original price”.
Yes.... this is the problem right now to where nobody wants to go low but the value has actually decreased because of the economy, and I'll just say it, it's the Democrats ridiculously stupid economic policies that have drove us into this mess. Not trying to be political but everybody knows as soon as Trump comes in all markets will go up just like they did the last time he came in. As soon as he left everything started tanking. Again, not trying to be political but it's impossible not to do so to tell the truth. The truth is is the reason this is happening is because of democratic policies. If you want to debate me I don't mind at all and I will talk to you about it but I don't want to argue, it's just my opinion. Thanks
This makes a lot of sense. I just recently got an excellent condition SG, modern blueberry fade from guitar center with a sticker still on it for only 1500 bucks. Not a scratch on it.
Very WELL done. Great analysis.
As a vintage guitar dealer I haven’t seen a slow down in that segment of the market. So far this has been a very hot season. In the pre-Covid era the summer months were generally a slower period for me. So far this year has not been that way at all.
My buddy owns a very popular vintage guitar store as well and he said the same. It’s just not the same market as normal players gear. Folks that can afford those instruments generally aren’t going to be as affected as the rest of us.
@@JamesSClapperton while I think there is a lot of truth in that, some portions of the vintage market took a pretty good hit in 2008. Portions of the vintage archtop market have only recently been reaching levels it was at in the 1990s.
What is the modal age of the buyers?
@@peterharrell7305I don’t ask for demographic data for my customers, so there’s not way I could tell you.
Thanks for covering this as I'm looking to off load one of my DRs soon, but based on this I can easily wait. Besides it just looks cool stacked up with the other heads, lol 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
The used market is definitely mellowing out right now. It makes it a little easier to grab something you just can't live without. How long will it last, who knows. Ultimately, the more people buy the more the prices will rise. It's a vicious cycle. You hit a lot of key points in this video. Thanks for sharing...your knowledge is appreciated. Oh, btw...you were mentioned in Leon Todd's last podcast (Australia) and could be asked for a future hang. I, for one, would love to see that happen.
The value of Block letters have not changed on Reverb at all. On the sold history both block letters and signature logos are in the same chart. The lower numbers are Signature logos and the higher number are the Block letters.
As someone with a limited budget trying to build a solid set up, this is good for me. But I also sold and amp and guitar, and wasn’t pleased with what I got for it. But happy that someone else will get enjoyment out of it
Great video i was just looking around for a video like this about gear prices and where there going. I was wondering if you think any of the older peavey or crate amp heads. Like the transuperm,xxl,3500 shockwave or 2200 older amps like becoming classics say to say? A year ago or so you could get them all day for $200. Today I was looking and seen couple of them they was asking 300 to 399 for them. Lol
I paid 500$ for a VTM 60, and I actually considered that a good deal! I never thought I’d even pay that for the more unknown Peavey heads.
I did also manage to recently score a Peavey 3120 and 90s Ampeg 4x12 with V30s all for 300$, so there definitely are great deals around. It came with the footswitch too! Changed out some preamp tubes to lower gain ECC83 and ECC82s and it’s a total keeper! I’ll probably put some 6L6s in there too as it’s got some Mesa EL34s in it right now.
Great video Kyle! I’m psyched for your channels success!
Thank you Kyle! Great vid!!
It seems that the vintage market is still reasonably hot. There's definitely a flood/saturation of newer gear sitting around on the market though.
That's great! Everything I buy is something I know I'm going to keep, even when it's used. I just think most musicians don't really know what they want and constantly buy and sell.
Bingo!
Honestly, I don’t understand how your channel is not bigger than it is. I listen to every single one of your videos, and there’s always good information. The personality is great, it’s authentic, and it’s entertaining! Keep up doing the good work, I believe in you!
It just takes time. Kyle will be a big figure in this space if he keeps going.
I agree!
I've been following Kyle for a little while and his channel is growing pretty fast!
This is a bot comment 😂
It’s like the housing market! When the prices of homes got too high people start buying condos, but then once the market turned around, the house is retain their value more than the condos so those who bought late we’re stuck with condos that were worth less. So the moral of the story is just don’t buy the mediocre stuff get the quality high-end older stuff if you’re buying used and in the long run that only will it be a better quality instrument it’ll retain his value.
I was told no new EVH dealers will be opened up for at least a year by the rep for our area. THAT's likely why the EVH stuff is high, because not many can get their hands on it at the moment. Honestly, this is probably better for current dealers, though, at least the market isn't flooded to the point that dealers have to give it away to sell it. I owned a guitar shop for 22 years starting in 1990 and was a Crate amps dealer for the first 3 years of that. I dropped them after year 3 because there were NINE other guys the rep had opened up as dealers within a 40 minute drive of me, and I am in rural southern IL. NONE of us could sell them without giving them away. I bailed and went for other lines and I wasn't the only one who did.
I pretty much only buy used gear these days. I know with guitars it can be a bit of a lottery, but I’ve been lucky with the three I’ve bought over the last couple of years. Amp heads, digital modellers, there’s bargains to be found.
It depends on what you are looking for an where people are still buying stuff up. Some sellers are even not even wanting to negotiate at all just denying reasonable offers without counter ones as well. Used parts prices are almost the same as buying new too still. Will it go lower possible but getting a deal is still difficult short of going into a store. I shop for lower end beginner gear as well as older used gear that should be cheaper due to better options being available pre vintage odd ball stuff.
Ya know what's killing amp sales? Software, profiles / irs. Check those sales and then compare to physical amps or gear. And I'll add, nobody seems to want to lug bigger around, and are ok w running direct to the pa, which is sad cause there's nothing like a half or full stack pounding a stage..
As for amps, a lot of people are going digital. I also see a lot of people complain about the weight of larger amp heads and cabinets. I’m hoping to see some stuff come back down so I can add to the collection.
Collectors and digital enthusiasts have pretty much determined the current market issues. I couldn't buy a used valve amp if I wanted because of the pricing people are putting on them, even garbage amps. B-52 ST100 for $600? Yeah, kiss my ass. Or they are being hoarded in some studio and will never see the light of day until someone thinks they can get $10k for their JCM2000 or whatever.
Really glad I am getting back into solid state, even if it is mildly forced because of the market.
@@riffsnoleadsthere’s some killer solid state options these days. I have all tube amps, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t wanting one of the orange super crush heads. They sound great!
I always check reverb to get references on the prices. I live in Spain and the used market has suffered from inflation but not so much, that being said, our wage cannot be compared with someone from the US for example. I guess that everything has its good part and its bad one. Happy to hear that everything is going back to normal :). have a good one Kyle!
Reverb is a really bad gauge though. A lot of people put extremely over value prices on things because Reverb charges a fee to use them as a selling platform. You see it a lot with outrageous shipping prices because the seller is trying to make up for what Reverb is cutting out from them on the main price.
As someone who makes money restoring Guitars and then flipping them (lol if I don't decide to keep a certain model) also started noticing the 'slump' again in the market a few months ago. It happens though, definitely even rougher when this is 1/3 of your "at-home" business and you're on Disability lol 😆 gotta love obstacles 🤘🏻🦾😎 another great vid buddy, keep em coming
I agree that prices are going down 👇
I just picked up a Heafy orgins LP for just over $500 used. Get this it was brand new still had the plastic on the pickups. New they go for $1099 new
Hey, I just realized that we’re from the same city ! It’s tough to sell anything around here. Especially high end stuff. I’ve been trying also.
i agree with a lot of your opinions on the subject. also, love the shirt. love ksr.
Music equipment is a luxury item. Those types of goods always go on discount first before a recession. Look at watches and purses, they are going down in prices as well. When Recession comes, more supply will come and prices will go down.
Im actually really surprised some of the prices I have gotten from Guitar Center these days. They beat pawn shops most of the time
Good advice 👍 I been waiting to buy a mesa amp.
Yep. Can’t even sell my PRS SS SE in mint condition for $625. 2 months ago they were selling all day long for $750. Retails at $850.
Wait you were selling it for $750 but new it was $850?? Might as well get it new!
I think the tube amp market will continue to soften as tube prices go up and as people move to modelers and profilers.
The tube amp market is get super soft. Time to pick up that amp you've always wanted lol.
@@TheBoss0Time "Not as good" is a very subjective thing. Tube amps are expensive to buy, maintain, repair, and transport. You can get modelers and profilers for a fraction of the price, and many artists are now using them on stage and in the studio. With the advent of inexpensive (Tonex) and even free (NAM) profilers, and other software options, tube amps are becoming more difficult to justify. Add to that the current economic situation, high interest rates, and shrinking musician income, and you have the perfect storm for the diminution of the tube amp market.
@@6stringlord I stand by my statement. Many artists can't afford to travel with backlines anymore and a guitar, pedalboard, and modeler are much easier to transport. Of course, there are exceptions like Joe Bonamassa and Brad Paisley. And many artists find modelers and profilers good enough to get the job done. I watched a video today with Guitar Junkie and Mike Britt (Lonestar) and he mentioned how playing his Kemper makes him forget he is using a profiler.
@@6stringlord There are only 3 tube factories left in the world. And only one is not in Russia or China. From a recent article in Premier Guitar (5/23): "“It has been a big deal,” Sweetwater’s Monroe says, sighing. “In some cases, we even had to take products off the web. There was no way we could deliver." AND "“It’s a difficult needle to thread,” Monroe says. “There are a lot of tube amp users out there that need to service their existing amp. We can’t provide that because all the tubes are going to new amps. Yeah, we want to sell more amps but, at the same time, we want to take care of those customers.”
@@6stringlord John Nathan Cody posted a new video: "John Mayer Used a Fractal FM9 Live - Is Modeling Taking Over?" LOL!
Good. The prices in the used market were ridiculous and unjustified. Now we can have a good reasonable used gear market.
This is great news. Saw a Peavey XXX for $250 the other day locally and I just missed it. Also some 5150 II’s around $700 - 800 and some Mesa cabs dropping fast.
I am apparently not following the trend... In the last 60 days Ive bought a PRS MT15, a Randall RG1003, an Orange Micro Dark and about 5 different pedals... And Ive sold nothing in that time... 🤘
Even new gear is coming down. Just looking at some of the stuff that I own, such as the Kemper Stage, it went up $100 and is now down $200. There have been quite a few price drops. Companies definitely rode the wave while they could.
I sold all of my gear about 18 months ago as I was tired of tube amps and pedals and their reliability issues and bought a quad Cortex and a digital piano. Best decision ever. I had two amps and about 40 pedals, which were all bought used pre-pandemic. I definitely made money on every item sold, and the quad Cortex is so much better for a home player like me.
Reminds me of late 2020/early 2021. I was able to snag some gear that I used to gas for when I was younger.
I miss when Rectos went for $800 and 5150/6505s went for $500.
6:40 I did this too, I have so many pedals I don’t even use, I mean, they have a certain charm, but most of them start to sound the same.
Just when I'm about to list my PRS Silver Sky SE fo sale because I want to get one with the new colors.
The IRS Gestapo coming after 600 or more a year took me out. By the time I pay ebay or Reverb, PP gets their chunk AND get taxed? I can’t even break even. I had a set amount I kept tied up in gear, I just kept rotating things through and basically broke even. To hell with it.
The used gear market as gone CRAZY in the last couple of years... In my neck of the woods (Montreal, Quebec), there isn't as much gear locally and people are asking batshit crazy amounts. Also on the amp side, considering that most amp makers jacked the prices on their stuff pre pandemic, the ol' day's of snagging a JVM410 for $1300 used is FAR gone!
In my area, in Spokane Wa, Prices haven't fallen at all. Been trying for a while now to find a 50 watt EVH for under $800 is ridiculous.
Prices haven't fallen, but the value of money has. $800 three years ago is $1200 today.
I picked up a lightly used mint condition LTD Kh602 for 780 on reverb last month!!! definitely a steal
Good Video buddy!
High end gear will always be expensive . I usually list my gear for trade so hopefully won't hurt too much .
I still found lots of great deals on used gear during the Pandemic, to the point where I bought way too many guitars. I definitely see people being more open to lower offers now on gear they bought, but don't use. It's more of a buyers market at the moment for sure.
To this day I only buy used gear, but all the gear I buy I find on a deal and is usually something rare or not very common. Around 2017 I found a used Ibanez RGA121H at a guitar store for $700. Now they’re $1200. Next I got a 1993 Japan SL1 for $1100 that now goes for $1800. I just picked up an SG Supreme I found in a pawnshop for $860 out the door and my local GC got a Mesa rectifier 4x12 for $800 that I scooped up. Love finding me those hidden deals
Picked up an '84 Vantage bass for $200 a few months back and it's an incredible value, that bass is a solid mij player
Man, I’ve recently been hitting up the guitar centers in the Seattle area for the past year, and they are ghost towns in the used department. Most even are in the new instrument department. It’s just not what it was. The drum dept might only have a dozen kits total and there’s maybe 20-30 used guitars, a dozen amps/heads. I’m happy to see the prices fall when I have some money for once.
I wonder how Parker L’s guitar biz is doing right now. He’s got an insane inventory @ Diablo.
normally see prices on new gear go down over time, but i see gear that was new 3 years ago remain the same prices and even going up..
Just snagged me a used OS 412 Mesa Recto Cab at Guitar Center a month ago for almost half of what it costs new. The salesman was telling me he told the seller to not do it there cause Guitar Center wouldn’t give him what it was worth, but the guy unloaded anyway, which redounded to may benefit. I think the bigger concern here is the declining purchases of new gear, but then again it all cycles.
For me, I know used prices pushed me to buying more new gear from boutique companies. After hearing and having QC issues from multiple big companies, to the used prices being outrageous, it made me think, “why buy this overdrive at $200 that’s been used for years, when this company just did a pedal with the same circuit and more tone options, and for the same price.”
But I am grateful for it at the same time. I would have found pedal companies like Ground FX or JPTR FX if not for the price gouging.
JPTR is the sauce!
don't forget its also summertime, things go usually slower
I'm loving the prices Ive been paying lately for used gear. While those around me argue over plugin buys and subscriptions, my mic locker continues to grow.
Yeah shit has def gone up. I bought a used Mexican fender Tele a few years back and it was 319 dollars. Now the same guitar is over 500 to 600.
Near me, a guy has had a 22 Gibson LP Standard listed for months. Its now listed ar$1900 OBO
I am a bit of a gear hoarder. Not much onbthe selling end. But i am currently in the market for a certain couple guitars and the price is currently higher than i want to pay. But being in the silver game i have an understanding of supply/demand and agree with Kyle that what goes up, must come down.
Peavey 5150 Block Letters and Mesa Boogie 2ch Rectifiers (all the revisions) are highly sought after ! They will not go down in value by any stretch of the imagination folks. They will actually go up. Buy them while you can folks!
I actually read an article yesterday that said there are some strong signs that inflation is about to crash without an actual recession. Any thoughts on how that might effect the used gear market?
I own a guitar shop and its true people are dumping collections every week in my shop as of late. its a crazy time right now.
Just bought a b stock PRS mccarty 594 s2 in Ezria Verde smoke burst for 1200. So happy
Depends where you live.....used prices here in Vegas are usually low these days. No complaints here
On one hand I'm sad I can't sell my baritone tele for a pile of cash, but on the other hand it's good that prices are settling.
Don’t know if I can agree with this. Have done a Musician’s Swap Meet for 15 years now and the used market seems to be still strong.
Prices around me are still pretty outrageous on any tube/booteek or JHS mentioned items. So happy that I have re-embraced solid state amps again. The supreme black sheep of all amps.
I was finally compelled to pick up a vox pathfinder 15r to satisfy my GAS...dang is that a nice little solid state, my tube amps are collecting dust now
If I could find an isp theta head I’d prolly sell off alot of stuff. Agreed
Good, people have been greedy asking crazy prices for stuff. I’m ready to load up.
I am even seeing Fractal stuff coming down to regular new prices for used gear, which says a lot haha.
Gear market is following closely to used car market. Pandemic $$$$ increase from low supply new cars and guitar gear. Now price normalization happening with more new supply but prices will stay high for a long time and not get to pre pandemic levels. This is also the summer dip that tends to happen as people are outside more and spend on experiences. Fall will see return to prices trending upward.
I'm no expert but I also think part of it is market over saturation. It's never been easier to get a great sound without spending much money but at the same time everyone has to get that new piece of kit ASAP. Kind of the same with games and computers.
A neural dsp plugin + reference speakers sounds ridiculous. Way cheaper than an amp. And no annoying buzz/feedback. Hard to make a plugin sound bad. A real amp have to dial in way more to get what you want.
On point! 👌
i started trading guitars out of boredom. I had an Epiphone Tommy Thayer which I used live before Covid. Traded and sold and bought a lot of guitars (mostly Les Pauls) and told myself everytime I made a profit, that Im keeping whatever guitar I had. Ofc I didnt. But now i arrived at a 2016 Les Paul Standard in transamber which is probably the best guitar Ive ever played in my life and that Im keeping.
Simple solution to greedy prices - stop paying what people are charging for stuff if they are overpriced on things and hold out till they are forced to lower their prices. People are busy again but I make time to play guitar because I love it
Just picked up my dream custom shop strat for £2400 squeezed the guy down from £3k obviously due to the fact it was sat there not being sold.
Stuff will still sell for the right price, if your serious about selling then price acordingly
I bought a pristine Baja Tele on reverb during the height of the pandemic for like $900 (yes I overpaid!). It really wasn’t what I wanted after all so I let it go recently for $700 because I didn’t want to deal with the back and forth bargaining.
People in 2020: Let's buy stuff because we got free money during a global pandemic.
People in 2022/2023: Oh wow I shouldn't have wasted my extra money during the pandemic, and with the current inflation I can't afford this stuff that I NEVER NEEDED to begin with.
This is a good video. A lousy economy and a saturated market make hobbies and luxury items a lot less attractive.
I think a lot of it comes down to people not having cash for used gear. I've been buying/selling a lot over the years like yourself, (but much less) and over the last year I can sell my gear for market value but I have to be willing to sit on it for awhile. Months. I'm fine with that but it is sad that a lot of people really are struggling in this economy and trading in gear for low prices.
It's not even about struggling sometimes. Some people have the money and they don't care and they will take that trade in to get that next item that they want. I have sold lots of guitars on the market but lots of times I have removed the listings because people are just way too annowing and everybody's trying to low ball you sometimes. Sometimes for some of us, because we don't need or care about the money, we will take that trade and put it toward something else. I still liked your comment because I do know what you're saying.
@@beefnacos6258 I agree with you. That makes sense. Some people don't care and losing a couple hundred bucks isn't a big deal. I've also removed items from the market at times due to people sending low ball after low ball. It can get annoying. Luckily I've been fortunate enough to never have to sell something to come up with cash quick and make a decision I normally wouldn't make. Patience is the key. Usually.
Consumer confidence is at its highest level since early 2022, recession fears have passed, unemployment is at record lows and inflation is down to 4%. The used market is cooling down because: 1) Retail inventories have mostly recovered, so fewer people are turning to the used market. Supply chain issues getting resolved played a big part in this 2) Like you said, pandemic purchases getting dumped back into the market.
May not necessarily be people giving up guitar but simply letting go of stuff they didn't vibe with. I didn't even need the cash but I sold off a handful of pieces I just didn't want anymore to just have more space. I set my prices about 15% below "market" and my gear moved quick.
Maybe it's looking up a little since this video. I recently sold a guitar within a week that I couldn't sell late last year.
I had to ditch most of my gear during 2009-2015 due to both financial and space issues, so I'm personally looking forward to another used gear crash. Nothing fancy, all I want is a new 2x12 cab, a new baritone guitar, and a new superstrat.
I'm not seeing it yet... everyone seems to be holding firm on asking near-full retail price on old gen stuff...
Awesome … maybe I can afford to buy back all my Minifooger pedals I sold off years ago
I have seen people selling collections on cl. Cl used b be mostly low end beginners instruments a few mid tier and 1 or 2 high end pieces. Now I'm seeing way more high end pieces of gear.
In Cleveland I call CL the cork-sniffers market. Everything supposedly collectible and priced as such. Players will do better buying on Offeup.
I have noticed a "Downward" trend on used prices, there's been an exception, the "Holy Grail" gear, where the prices are slower too go down. it's only a matter of time before we hit a (pun intended) pre eBay prices.
whats the tightest amp you've ever played ?
I picked up a guitar during Covid and I’m glad I did I got some great deals.
Are pawn shops taboo now? Ive found some good gear at the local pawn shops. Havent been since right as the pandemic ramped and the shelves were bare. Like you said everybody was buying back then. There should be a surplus now... i really need to go back and check.
Pawn shops usually have terrible prices in my neck of the woods
@@Amp_and_Pedal_Demos1111 yeah sometimes tho they have good deals
