I fully believe the game was moved out of Mexico not because of the field conditions (the NFL is a multibillion dollar organization that had more than enough resources to get the field in good condition by gametime), but because both teams had 9-1 records at the time and the NFL felt that such a high-stakes game shouldn't be played abroad.

I live in switzerland (europe) and all prime time games are around 2 am at night. So if you want to watch the game, you basically can go to work right after the game is over.
I guess I'm too lucky being here in the Philippines. All of the primetime games are in morning. The only problem could be if you have school (or in one instance, typhoon that caused power outage)

They all use the names from NFL Europe thanks to a deal between NFL, ELF, and the 5 clubs in question. Of note: Only the Fire play in the same venue the NFL Europe counterpart played at full time (Frankfurt, Berlin, and Cologne all use smaller venues, and Hamburg technically doesn't use the Volksparkstadion full time for ELF play, rotating amongst several other venues in north Germany)
I’ve been to both Estadio Azteca and Maracana: Azteca is an old, pretty ordinary stadium, but it hosts a lot of history and its proximity in Mexico City makes it a good candidate to host games. Maracana is more modern, upgraded stadium, but it doesn’t have the same size it did around 1950 (about 199,000 back then, 77,000 now). Still would be an awesome place to watch an NFL game. I would totally go.
6:05 interesting fact, Covid 19 allowed for the Bernabau upgrades to be completed quicker than expected because during the pandemic Real Madrid played their home games at their youth team stadium which made sense no fans were allowed to attend anyways. Had Covid not happened, this would have taken significantly longer as they’d only have the off seasons to work on it .
I think they chose a smaller stadium in brazil because it's more of a test event. And is more modern than the bigger and older Morumbi. If it works and has good attendance and profit they might change it to a bigger stadium
They picked São Paulo instead of Rio because it’s a whole lot better connected to 🇺🇸 is with a lot of American companies having their regional headquarters there. Don’t underestimate São Paulo, you can have plenty of all night parties in Vila Madelena which I can attest to.
Also because Maracanã area doesn’t have much space for sponsor activities. NeoQuimica has a lot of space for pre game activities and it’s a good stadium for viewing

I know it's not a part of the International Series but Rogers Centre in Toronto did host a game for the Bills for a few years. I was at the last one where the Seahawks owned the Bills and Psy performed Gangnam Style at half time.
I went to the 2023 Baltimore Ravens game in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and it was incredible. It was by far the best stadium I've ever been to. The experience was amazing, the fans were great, and the flow of traffic was like something straight out of a sci fi movie. Truly a one of a kind experience.
The only NFL game i've been to was between my Redskins and the Bengals at Wembley, there were about 84,000 spectators and my brother and me were sitting way up in the nosebleeds, it was like watching coaching film. What a stadium..

Buenos Aires, Argentina would be a nice place to host an NFL game. There is an 80,000 seat on the outskirts of Argentina's capital city that could host it. The stadium is called Mas Monumental and is owned by River Plate, one of the largest soccer/football teams in Argentina and in the world. Taylor Swift had her Argentina concerts at this location.

The only realistic ones you listed are Accor, Suncorp, Marvel, the MCG, and maybe Allianz. AAMI, CommBank, Mt Smart are too small (Eden Park would be NZ’s option if NZ ever got one), and Perth likely wouldn’t host because that travel situation is the most extreme (and extremely expensive for anyone going)

I think the NFL did do a preseason game in the Tokyo Dome back inthe early 90s, but it'd be a good place to do another one. It seems American football is gaining some popularity in the country (I remember the Japanese under 18 team recently beating the U.S. in the sport), so I could see the NFL filling the venue up.

I don't know why the Maracana is considered so iconic to be honest with you, I think that's just Brazilian football related hyperbole. Apparently it fit around 200,000 people in it back in 1950 though, maybe that's why, I don't know. It's never captured my imagination though.

And until 1960 Rio was our national capital (first 10 years of the stadium), which reinforced the status as the home of the national team. It was our de facto national stadium. But nowadays the national team plays anywhere but here, only 9 games every four years because it's mandatory to play in the nation (World Cup Qualifier games). Between 1950-2010 this stadium had more history in a weekend than many of those new stadiums could have in 10 years

the Bills played a game per year in Toronto for some seasons. I don't see the game going to some other place in Brasil. Not because of capacity (you will see), but because the stadiums that are bigger have pretty much no space for other league activities. Paris can host one easily at Stade de France

Astro Turf on a concrete floor absolutely destroys players' knees. I highly doubt that slapping it down over non-skid and steel deck plates is going to be any nicer. There are also padeyes, JBDs, catapult shuttles and rails, tophat cameras, and arresting wires on the deck, which would have to be removed or covered. You're talking about spending millions, just to modify the flight deck, just to make it usable. Then there's the fact that we don't exactly have "spare" aircraft carriers. So we'd have to pull a carrier from active duty, modify it, and keep it out of the fleet for months, just to play a single game, and then spend several more months out of operation, just to put it back the way it was before. Playing with national security and wasting taxpayer funds for a single game doesn't sound like all that great an idea, honestly.

Italy has the capacity in some venues, but overall their stadiums are pretty much in need of renovations. Greece I can only see it being held in the Olympic Stadium, but it has an athletic track. Sweden, maybe at Nationalarenan. I don't think Norway has the capacity, biggest stadium there sits 28k

I went to the 2023 Baltimore Ravens game in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and it was incredible. It was by far the best stadium I've ever been to. The experience was amazing, the fans were great, and the flow of traffic was like something straight out of a sci fi movie. Truly a one of a kind experience.

The only NFL game i've been to was between my Redskins and the Bengals at Wembley, there were about 84,000 spectators and my brother and me were sitting way up in the nosebleeds, it was like watching coaching film. What a stadium..
Twickenham is actually pronounced Twicken-Um. The Brits like to randomly drop the H sound because they hate the French. I'll be visiting Wembley for an England soccer match next month. Hopefully I can make it to Spurs stadium as well. Azteca probably won't host NFL football until 2027, since they are upgrading it for the 2026 World Cup.

pandemic was likely a big reason why Real got away with no interruptions, as they were already going to play without spectators anyway it made more sense to relocate and just have construction at the Bernabeu nonstop. There weren’t that many game delays. Also the team played at their youth teams stadium for a couple of years, mainly during the pandemic seasons as they thought, no fans would be able to attend anyways, let’s get the upgrades on there and it doesn’t matter that it’s not in the big stadium

Buenos Aires, Argentina would be a nice place to host an NFL game. There is an 80,000 seat on the outskirts of Argentina's capital city that could host it. The stadium is called Mas Monumental and is owned by River Plate, one of the largest soccer/football teams in Argentina and in the world.

The only realistic ones you listed are Accor, Suncorp, Marvel, the MCG, and maybe Allianz. AAMI, CommBank, Mt Smart are too small (Eden Park would be NZ’s option if NZ ever got one), and Perth likely wouldn’t host because that travel situation is the most extreme (and extremely expensive for anyone going)
The biggest critique is how much you will be paying to go to one of these stadiums, it’s about 10 times as expensive as going to a game Locally
Thing that gets me is that in any team sport a home game is the most sacred thing you have and should never been given up lightly

I think the NFL did do a preseason game in the Tokyo Dome back inthe early 90s, but it'd be a good place to do another one. It seems American football is gaining some popularity in the country (I remember the Japanese under 18 team recently beating the U.S. in the sport), so I could see the NFL filling the venue up.

Our Corinthians Stadium (im corinthians fan) is great for the first NFL game here in Brazil, cause has a very big outside area and is easy to get by 2 metro stations inside the stadium... also Sao Pauo city is way bigger than Rio (almost 25 million people)

I don't know why the Maracana is considered so iconic to be honest with you, I think that's just Brazilian football related hyperbole. Apparently it fit around 200,000 people in it back in 1950 though, maybe that's why, I don't know. It's never captured my imagination though.

Believe me, it was a shame to let the Maracanã getting disrepaired after the olympics, those days are long gone. Thing is, it was owned and operated by the state of Rio de Janeiro. And they gave up the stadium operation to a consortium of companies after the most recent (and criminal, and basically unnecessary) renovation. The consortium and the state had a disagreement and the consortium gave up.
If you were brazilian you would understand why. Place hosted most national team games over the years, two World Cup finals, and countless games of great importance and atmosphere at the club level. Hosted the biggest crowd in volleyball history, Sinatra, The Pope, Guns n Roses, to name a few.
It was, in the old days, truly seen as the house of the people through football (yes, I'm not changing that). In a phrase that was written once in a newspaper: a man comes to the general admission area of the Maracanã in the weekends searching a win that life denied him all week long.
It's also a place of christening: an iconic game by a player in there proves that you can do anything. Every major brazilian player has an iconic game in the Mário Filho (the official name of the stadium)

@@Mullerology it truly does. I'm in a place far away from Rio. I wish I could've gone to the stadium between 2007-10. It was perfect for me in those years. And until 1960 Rio was our national capital (first 10 years of the stadium), which reinforced the status as the home of the national team.
It was our de facto national stadium. But nowadays the national team plays anywhere but here, only 9 games every four years because it's mandatory to play in the nation (World Cup Qualifier games).
Between 1950-2010 this stadium had more history in a weekend than many of those new stadiums could have in 10 years

The should have one on a aircraft carrier since its already three football fields long might not get alot of seating but it would be awesome to see on tv. its a college basketball team that plays on one every year.
Astro Turf on a concrete floor absolutely destroys players' knees. I highly doubt that slapping it down over non-skid and steel deck plates is going to be any nicer. There are also padeyes, JBDs, catapult shuttles and rails, tophat cameras, and arresting wires on the deck, which would have to be removed or covered. You're talking about spending millions, just to modify the flight deck, just to make it usable. Then there's the fact that we don't exactly have "spare" aircraft carriers. So we'd have to pull a carrier from active duty, modify it, and keep it out of the fleet for months, just to play a single game, and then spend several more months out of operation, just to put it back the way it was before. Playing with national security and wasting taxpayer funds for a single game doesn't sound like all that great an idea, honestly.

Scotland could be at Murrayfield and maybe Hampden Park. Ireland has Aviva Stadium, that has expertise in hosting college games. Italy has the capacity in some venues, but overall their stadiums are pretty much in need of renovations. Greece I can only see it being held in the Olympic Stadium, but it has an athletic track. Sweden, maybe at Nationalarenan. I don't think Norway has the capacity, biggest stadium there sits 28k

NFL has chosen the wrong stadium in Sao Paulo for their business. They should have chosen the Allianz Parque Arena, with a MUCH BETTER location. Neo Quimica Arena is too far from city center, in a dangerous area, but they had chosen because it had World Cup and Olympics (and this happened because political choices ONLY, not practical: just notice that Corinthians team doesn’t have money to pay back for this stadium, and this corrupt government has given them this stadium paid by public money almost for free). You guys will make more money using Allianz or Morumbi.
