On today's episode of Locked On Ducks, Spencer McLaughlin talks about Oregon's linebacker room following Bryce Boettcher's selection in the 13th round of the MLB Draft. His ability/decision to play this Fall will have an impact on Oregon's depth chart. 12:45
Oregon has been taking shots from media and coaches about its NIL efforts to allure players to Eugene, most recently Georgia's Kirby Smart. Why does this seem to keep happening and what does it say about Dan Lanning's progrum? 21:40

He wanted to stay closer to home next to Mommy and Daddy. His parents want to be at every single home game he plays …
He will be on the fifth best team in the SEC at best and one of the worst defenses in CFB.

@@Brandontheduck nothing wrong with wanting to stay close to home allowing your family the ability to see every home game but LSU finished tied for third in the SEC and 12th ranked despite the defense ranked like 112th, their defense will not be one of the worse in the nation again with Blake Baker back at LSU now as DC and the offense will continue to be one of the best in the nation this year.

Also I’m just plain done with these analysts like Tom Loy and Steve Wiltfong changing their picks 2 minutes before the announcement to keep their “prediction success percentage” high. I award them no points, and may god have mercy on their souls.
Seriously, lock that crap down 48 hours before the announcement to do away with this fake BS. It’s like intentionally missing a shot and grabbing the board to get your triple double. Just loser stat padding.

Plain & Simple: DJ has a relationship with Corey Raymond, Patrick Peterson, and Derek Stingley, that’s resources that Oregon does not have! Just imagine Patrick Peterson being able to relate to you as someone from the State of Florida being highly recruited to DBU and ultimately becoming a 1st Round pick! Then Stingley being able to share his story as a true freshman starter that won a Natty; and DJ has the potential to be a breakout player as a true freshman. I don’t need to speak on Corey Raymond, it speaks for itself. Oregon has money, but they have zero 0️⃣ of the above! Let that sink in….

Very confused on the Bryce Boettcher part of your episode. It was pretty widely reported he will play in the fall….twitter quote from a big time Astros beat writer…
“Astros scouting director Cam Pendino said 13th round pick Bryce Boettcher will play football for Oregon this fall before beginning his professional baseball career. Presuming he does sign, Boettcher would report to minor-league spring training next year.”
He wasn’t the only one reporting as such. Did you miss all that? Surprised you didn’t mention it at all.

I think the business of recruit ranking and prediction is just a little bit propped-up on its own self interest and vastly speculative in the NIL era.
I also think a lot of buzz around predicting a talented player’s actions probably does negatively impact the predicted outcome in some cases.
Grats to LSU and onto Trey McNutt!

Ok, my thought. Obviously, lsu is a good program. They have a history of putting out DB's to the league. The last thing is in no way a knock, but I believe they missed on Moore, and the NIL now found themselves with the budget to go all in on him. There's nothing wrong with that.

I don’t understand your enthusiasm for equally whiffing on a 5-star. A 5-star who is the #1 player in your own state was more interested in Oregon and LSU than in-state schools 😂
Miami isn’t even in the same neighborhood as Florida State. Both Miami and Florida are pretty middling as of late. At least Florida was relevant in recent memory, can’t say the same for Miami. Laughable indeed.

@@damotivewasmoney8648I’m a quarter of a century old and I cannot remember for the life of me any of miamis success. Recruits definitely don’t remember the success of Miami. Miami actually has not won a conference title since the Big East, in 2003.
Consequently, not only can you not win a conference title, you also cannot fill your stadium, that isn’t even yours to begin with. You have no brand recognition outside of the south east, you wear adidas, and your schools NIL sugar daddy has a fake company with wishy wahsy nil promises.
Those 5 titles are better than 0, but most kids don’t give a shit about stuff that happened years before they were born. Good luck with Mario, and remember to tell him that taking a knee is probably the best way to end the game.

I think it’s a combination of timing, pushes by staff in the 11th hour and helping the athlete and their inner circle see a clear vision of how a program will get them to the next level that ends up being the difference. All things being equal, it could end up being a simple reason like proximity to family, etc.
I think most predictions are based on the periphery of the recruit at best and unsubstantiated inside information at worst.
Congrats on landing a great player!
