I used my design program, but to do it manually you'd work out what width the decking board is at the back, then the distance to the centre, and then work out how many mm or inches it needs to shrink per mm/inch to reach zero in the centre. Then you multiply that number by how deep you want the seat. In this situation the board is 140mm including a 5mm gap and is 1700mm to the centre of the fire pit bowl, so divide 140/1700 and get 0.08235. I want the seat to be 450mm deep so multiply 450x0.08235 and get 37, so the decking board should be 37mm less at 450mm. I’ve included the gaps in both, so it actually 135 to 103mm
Amazing Aussie backyard fire pit area, great job, where in Melbourne do you get your sleepers from and what would you expect to pay for them, cheers Mike
Thanks Mike! I’m from Geelong so not sure where you’d get them from in Melbourne, but there’s plenty of places down here that sell them. Haven’t used any for a year or more, but they might be $110-$120 each. Depends on the quality of them
Might’ve been 135 to 108 or something like that. If you’re doin a specific one yourself, let me know the decking board width and the outside diameter of the seat where the decking board meets the back rest, and I can work it out for ya
Thanks! This video was one of my early ones, when I realised that holding my finger over the phone microphone wasn't a great idea for the audio quality.
@@henrypye5686 These ones are blackbutt and are trimmed on both sides to match the circle. I just posted a video to instagram today showing how I do it. It's a different seat, but same process. The ones in the instagram video are ironbark
If you turn your volume up full you'll hear it (I can on all of my devices I've tried it on). Or you may notice that I've provided captions to account for the poor audio
Absolutely beautiful idea for a seating area! I have showed so many people here in the UK… all wowed! Getting my lads on a smaller version if you don’t mind me copying 🫣😂💕
It's absolutely beautiful, both in design and in execution.👍👍
Thanks so much! Coincidentally we're building another one at the moment!
Amazingly beautiful. Love it.Thanks for sharing ❤️ 💕 I appreciate it very much 🙏
Thank you! ☺️
Awesome. I’ve been searching for plans on this for a bit. Video is even better. Thanks
This is one of the best firepit builds on UA-cam !!
Might steel your idea mate
Thanks for sharing 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks mate, go for it! The build is certainly better than the audio!
Great Job - You've inspired me to give it a go, however, not sure how you work out what angle to taper each seat slats so they abut each orther.

Mate this is an awesome idea, definitely doing this. I have the room, so it's a yes from me. Cheers for sharing.
Thanks! Certainly takes up a fair bit of room, but it's definitely a feature in the right space
Awesome build. How much of the sleepers were above ground?
Thanks Tim. The seat is 450mm above ground so I'd guess the highest one is 1100 out of the ground
Awesome. Great instructional video!
Thanks Casper. There's certainly room for improvement in the audio department, but I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Hey Mate. Awesome work. What size were the reclaimed sleeps?
230x115mm and around 2.5-2.8m long

Awesome job Joel. Are we getting one of them at my place in Highton? Hope to hear from you soon. W.
Why not!?? Plenty of room for one!
In Tasmania
Hey mate, I was wondering if you had a cutting list for this project? I'd love to give it a go.
We kind of made it up as we built it Matthew so I don't have any plans unfortunately
Great mate..........thanks for sharing.
No worries, thanks Peter! Hopefully the audio quality improves significantly going forward!
Sweet as!!
Thanks Jo! Glad you liked it 😀
What were the dimensions/angles of the seat decking boards?
Might’ve been 135 to 108 or something like that. If you’re doin a specific one yourself, let me know the decking board width and the outside diameter of the seat where the decking board meets the back rest, and I can work it out for ya
Very nice 👍

Hey mate,
What screws did you use to hold the composite decking to the sleepers and then the seat wood to the composite decking?
Cheers
Galvanised batten screws for both
Thanks mate. And what sort of decking boards are they? Did you trim them individually to follow the circle?

Mate how deep was the trenches?
I think they were only about 400-500mm. Certainly don’t need to be anything too crazy because they’re tied up together and not holding any weight
I can’t hear what you’re saying? Edit volume pls

@@InStyleGardens I couldn't hear it either at full volume...I did us closed captioning
