"I will not stand down before any elf, least not this faithless woodland sprite, he wishes nothing but ill upon my people, if he chooses to stand between me and my kin I'll split his pretty head open!!" Dain automatically wins my support with that line.
Yeah Thranduil can go suck it
Ironically Thranduin is arguably the best Elf character in all Tolkien mythos because he is a flawed and somewhat relatable character and not a fucking over the top Mary Sue that can't possibly or physically do or be wrong, like every single fucking named knifeeared fairy since the fall of Feanor's sons is.
@@nickkorkodylas5005 he acted very noble in the book though. Helping out the men rather than going to the mountain and staying out of negotiations because Thorin would have shot him(lol). Then how he highly respected Bilbo for his morals and awarding him the title elf-friend(very few have this title)
My memory of the silmarillion is almost non existent though, since I lost the book years ago and still need to replace it
@@qiqi9057033 I don't recall Thranduil being used much in The Silmarillion. I think he appeared once or twice, but didn't do much to my recollection.
I mean who would wanna stand with the pointy ear princess.
"I always found Thorin more reasonable then the two" oh no.
That's noncanon tho... Dain was very cautious... The reason they called him Iron Foot, it was because he standed on his feet when he had fear.
@@Kuraimizu9152 what the fuck. No its because he kicked a head of someone like a football across the battlefield
@@theoneandonlyxero9098 Not that he couldn't... But he was very young when he killed Azog.
@@Kuraimizu9152 they're talking about Dain not Thorin.
Geralt "Fuck"
“I’ve always found Thorin to be the more reasonable of the two” That’s reassuring
dain was very reasonable, he found the elves besieging his kin preparing to attack his home kill his cousin and steal their wealth and he still gave them the option of leaving after all they did.
In the book Dain not Thorin willingly parted some treasure to the men and elves after the battle. More reasonable than Thorin.
@@davidmckown3590 Dáin didn't get dragon sickness right into his face tho, I assume that it made his job a bit easier.
@@davidmckown3590 i mean, Thorin is a great Dwarves well atleast before the dragon sickness
In the books it’s explained not even Dain would enter Moria after slaying Azog at the entrance. He ventured to look inside and either saw or felt the presence of the Balrog. Whereas Balin, a very “reasonable” and friendly dwarf as they go, let his hubris get the best of him and we saw how that turned out. I believe Dain was an extremely reasonable and cautious Dwarf. But of course this is just a matter of the movie vs the book version.
‘Good morning! How are we all?’ Best greeting ever at the cusp of a battle lol. One only Billy Connelly could pull off
would you consider.......... JUST SODDING OOOOFF?!? ALL OF YOU!!! RIGHT NOW!!!

How I feel everyday going into work 🤣
I love how the majority of the Dwarves are Scottish .
There's an entry in TV Tropes called "Our dwarves are all the same." It's a pretty funny contrast to "Our elves/trolls/demons/whatever are different"
Dwarves are as close as you can get to a constant in fantasy settings.
in general dwarves have a lot of norse and celtic themes to them, that's often why they sound gravely and have scottish/irish accents.
aye, we german dwarves have become a very diminished minority. we´re still better off than our dutch cousins. poor bastards ended as... excuse my french, lawn ornament *shudders*
We Dutch do feel bad haha
so thats where scottish accent came from
I love how Gandalf is neutral to all races of middle earth. He can appear in any tent and express his disappointment to any king without fears of losing friendship or favour.
Gandalf is one of the Maiar, which is the middle-earth equivalent of an angel. No king would have the nerves to piss him off.
@@FaeSparrow Feanor might've. He didn't give a dead dog, as Dain might say.
@@jeremyfrost2636 Luthien would be a good challenge.

Thranduil’s kinda pretty though.
"Would ya.. consider.. JUST SODDING OFF!"
Basically, Billy Connolly saying EFF OFF!!
Even Gandalf blanched a little bit at that! XD
I like his War Pig.
Every time I see this the song war pigs comes to mind.
the boar that killed bobby b
@@TheRapGeneral1 🤣
They should have made the pig cooler though, maybe give him tusks and make him look more like a boar. Sometimes they make dwarves look too silly in these films

if you think about it, this was the dwarven equivalent of calling someone that f word that rhymes with maggot xD
I wish we could have more of their banter, it almost took me back to Legolas and Gimli. That being said it was just great to hear those two go back and forth. I wish we had more of it.
"Ya hear that boys, We're on!"
oh no, diplomacy failed.
Persuasion checks have disadvantage against a racist.
There was no diplomatic solution when Dain shows up
I thought he was engaging 'aggressive negotiations'? 🤣
Ah yes the negotiator

I know that Dwarven didn't have any mounts in the Tolkien universe... But having boars and goats as mounts is a nice touch, it looks pretty epic.
I’m going be hopeful and say Mentioned mounts,😆
Dwarf Battleboars!
If dwarves live in the mountains, it's reasonable to think a goat would be a good choice for mounts.
Actually no they did have mounts even in the books they were known to ride ponies, However I actually think Tolkien might have liked this Because it does make a lot of sense
@@BrianSmith-jx7td Absolutely. The dwarves are all about stoutness, hardiness, and power. Pigs and goats fit this perfectly (that and their germanic/celtic aesthetic)
Plus pigs have very strong senses of smell which for dwarves would make sense when searching for underground resources. Train pigs to sniff for that stuff! And since pigs are compact generalists they're more ideal for the caves and mountains of the dwarves compared to cattle which need wide open pastures. Pigs will eat shit, they eat literally anything...
Literally... my mother grew up in farm country and one of her neighbors was eaten by his pigs after he had a heart attack in his pig pen...
And goats are hard headed, stout, and powerful and favor mountainous environments. A 50lb goat can knock out a 1,000lb charging steer. And a 50lb dwarf can do roughly the same damage with their head too...
This is my favorite scene of the whole trilogy. Love Dain. The dwarves are like Spartans from 300. Complete warrior badasses.
In the book you could call them 500. In the movie 7000
@@brianweyne5723 and dont even forget that they walked in full armor WITH HEAVY PACKS for 2 whole days with haste to meet up with Thorin. Dwarves are my favorites for a really good reason haha

Spartans wouldnt stand a chance
4 years later I concur
"You pointy eared princess," my favorite line in both the book and the movies😂😂
@Patrick Loroff He probably means the novelization of the movie. You are right. It isn't in the book.
It is a good line though. Perfect for Billy Connoly.
@Patrick Loroff I didn't know if there was or not, just trying to give the guy the benefit of the doubt about his statement.
And thank God there isn't a novelization. The movie was terrible outside of Connollys performance and you know some people would think a novelization was the actual book. Terrifying thought.
Yeah... They never said that in the book actually
Not every film quote is in the books but sometimes film quotes are better than the book quotes
I love how the elves are all seemingly perfect and act in complete unison.
The youngest one is probably 250. The level of training that entails... you'd be in complete unison with any army you'd trained alongside for centuries too.
@Alexandru they are always like this even in lotr
I've always liked elves
"If he choses to stand between me and my kin, I will split his pretty head open" sounds so damn good
yes
King
Best line in this video
Apparently, dwarves have even better hearing than elves. That threat was muttered under his breath but Dain heard it from like 100 yards away.
He might not have heard what was said. Instead, I think Dain _knew_ Thranduil would say something.
Usually I Don’t like battle in movies, but man, Dáin calling Thranduil a pointy eared princess makes up for it all 😂
Dain Ironfoot, the master of name calling.
That pig is adorable. I want one 😂
It is Kunekune pig breed in New Zealand. :D Go ahead grab one :P
Come to tx
You can make a lot of complaints about the Hobbitt movies, but surely Billy Connolly as Drain Ironfoot cannot be one of them? Perfect casting!
Perfect casting, atrocious cgi.
All of them acted good , The script is main problem
Martin freeman as younger Bilbo Baggins was great too.
Honestly, I don’t get the hate. Yeah the cgi is inconsistent but other than that I can’t find much to complain about
... and perfect acting
I think the pointyeared princess line got to Thranduil.
Dain II IronfootKing Under The Mountain, I fell of my bed laughing, he's right, thranduil does look like a pointy ear princess.
dont all elves do ;)
@@Todasul47 some but but there is nothing "princess-y" about Lord Elrond !!

As much as I wanted Dain to stop with this madness, I felt so bad about "He wishes nothing but ill upon my people." That is all you need to side with him.
When your big sibling Shows up to take care of the bullys
"...you pointy eared princess"
That made me laugh xD
Well, Dain do acknowledge that Thranduil is a looker. ' Ill split his pretty head open '. Dwarves view the elves as pretty and arrogant men aggravating their hatred for them.
The humans were actually going to sod off. 😆
They couldn't have found a more perfect Scotsman to play Dain :P
Dain Ironfoot, one of my all time favorite character..
From the books I gathered that Dain was perhaps the best warrior in Middle Earth. Definitely a feared foe - the movies don't give him enough credit imo.
Fingolfin: *Diligently dodges Mortgoth's swipes and counterattacks at the first opening
Dain: _"Hey, you spiky headed usurper! Wanna know why they call me "Ironfoot"?..."_
*lands hammer straight on Morgoth's toenail
Morgoth: *can't walk at all since
@@nickkorkodylas5005 Ummm...NO. Don't get me wrong, Dain was a badass...his last stand at the Lonely Mountain is why Gondor didnt have to deal with ANOTHER army at the climax of LoTR...he lived like a Boss, and went out like one. But Fingolfin is a legend unto himself..he had NO help, and managed to take on the Tolkien Equivilant of SATAN in single combat...Sauron by comparison was jsut one of his lieutenanants...trying to emulate his boss in later years, just as (ironically) Sauruman would try and fail to emulate Sauron. He permanantly lamed Morgoth with the last of his strength AFTER Morgoth had him broken and pinned....(the eagles arrived after the battle was over, and scarred Morgoth's face while reclaiming the body and taken him to a tomb on a mountainside to be buried....and for the rest of that Age of the world, no orc would come within a LEAGUE of that mountan. They feared his reputation THAT much.) Dain wasn''t so much as a twinkle in Durin's eye when that epic fight went down.
Yeah they nerfed him for the whole "Thorin character arc."
but yes, *easily* the strongest Dwarf warrior in the history of Dwardom. He did kill Azog as a teenager, essentially. That's badass.
@@alexsolomon7991 I meant alive at the time, obviously
@@alexsolomon7991 I'd say between Ecthelion and fingoulfin, Morgoth had placed alot of his power into Middle Earth by then, he was also nervous as hell going into his fight with fingoulfin, even though he was still OP asf compared most Maia and high elf lords IMO his feats at the end of the first age was ridiculous, Ecthelion took out four Balrogs and Killed more orcs during the fall of Gondolin than all elves combined in any age.
This is one of my favorite scenes!! I love the mechanical power of the dwarves, the organization of the elves, I love the cause of the men, I love it all!!

Billy Connolly was just perfect for this role!

1:31 He is such a chad that one shout and the combinations of both men and elves cower in fear and entered defensive formations.
Dáin II Ironfoot is one of the most awesome dwarves out there. When he was 35 (which was like being a teenager for Dwarves), after seeing his father Náin be killed by Azog. He jumped up to the orc and cut off his head straight from his body. He killed Azog with one fell swoop, as a teenager.
Wait how did Azog revive?
A Hoss They do in fact learn abd mature slower. Gimli was 62 when Thorins company left, but was considered to young to participate.
A Hoss - "35 years old is 35 years old" - since dwarves are a completely different race than from humans and not simply shorter men, that statement is about as meaningful as comparing, say, humans and dogs in this way. Dogs reach maturity when they are between 1 to 3 years old - are humans "disabled retards" then, just because our young are still toddlers at that age? Dwarves in the Tolkien universe do not simply live longer than men, they age in a whole different way. So no, 35 years is NOT neccessarily 35 years old in the way you describe it.
In the books it is clearly stated (mainly in Silmarilion) that the Dwarves and especially the Elves grows up way slower than the humans. During the first age when humans and elves where much closer there is a scene in the book where Hurin-if I remember-takes note on how the Elf children stay young for years after the human ones have grown so yes Dain at 35 was considered a teenager, you are wrong and before posting about things you don't know anything about and been smug about it, go and read some shit first.
No they learn actually faster. Their bodies though develop slower. Just shut up and go read the books
those ram chariots with auto crossbows are so badass. Creative Assembly please add dwarven chariots to total war!!!
Dain the legendary
You know I was expecting like 3 million dwarves to come over that mountain and just fuck shit up.
Dain is such a badass
Can we just take a minute to appreciate Tolkien's dedication to creating languages for the elves and Dwarves that fit them absolutely perfectly?
Dwarves are so AWESOME!!!!
IT'S A GOOD HAMMERIN' TIME!
Anyone that plays RPGs and doesn't understand the power of taunting needs to watch this... and keep an eye on Thranduil's face 😆

I’m shook that no one is talking about how he is literally CGI’d to hell and back.
2:21 gahtdamn what a beautiful man! 😍
I would totally be a Dwarf in this Universe.
Sucks that they put so much work into really good makeup for the actor just to redo him as CGI. I would be pissed if I had to wear a prison of makeup and armor for a computer to take my role for me.
theschnick he had Parkinsons and it made some scenes difficult
Considering he had Parkinstons, I think it is perfectly justifiable
the reason was that the make up and all the add ons were blocking the facial emotions that the actors were very good at, so they decided to take some off and CG the rest
I don't get the casting choices of Beorn and Dain at all. One couldn't participate because he had problems with the law and the other one had parkinsons.. like why would you pick people like that?
The Hobbit is a hot pile of s***, and it isn't even worth mentioning.
and yet its worth your time commenting? yet not mention? i bet you even watched it... seriously if you didnt like it why are you here? oxymoron?
Thranduil must have really really missed his Battles 101 class. When your opponent has that sort of high ground advantage with siege weapons. You dont challenge that shit. Cause it will tear your ass open.
