    Thank you so much for the video... I have been looking for a workbench vise and how to mount it to my bench. Really enjoyed all your videos and look forward to many more. After I build my folding wall mounted workbench I'm going to build your rolling drill press bench for mine. Take care

    Really enjoy watching your videos and learn a lot. I like Steve Ramsey`s channel too. I got a smaller vise from Harbor Freight and it works good. This one is bigger but a lot more expensive. Anyway thank you so much for your great videos!

      Not much story to it. In November 2022 took a class at a local woodworking shop on how to make a coffee table out of 2x4s. Prior to that never used any tools other then a screwdriver. I fell in love with woodworking and been building things ever since

    I've watched 3 or 4 of your videos and I'm hooked. They are highly informative and interesting. I am into laser engraving, CNC wood routing, and 3D printing.

      Hi Pflscw and welcome to the channel. So glad you enjoyed the videos. Cnc and laser printing is very cool, a skill I wished I had but unfortunately I am not very computer savvy

    I remember that my father had a wood vice on the end of his work bench but it had a few features this one lacks. I will list them here for folks who may want to build one with the features.
    -- The wooden part that goes against the end of the bench was tall and reached down to where the bottom shelf was on the bench.
    -- The moving jaw also extended down to the height of the shelf. At the bottom there was a thing with pegs that would let you set where the bottom end was. This allowed the vice face to remain almost perfectly flat with the next feature.
    -- The hardware where the screw was, was about 6 inches down from the top of the bench so you could grip wood that was more than 6 inches on that axis.
    -- The stationary jaw and the moving one both stood out towards you by about 1/2 inch and the screw hardware was about 8 inches back from the front edge. This allowed a board to be stood up in that space. A scrap bit of the same wood at the rear edge of the jaws allowed you to force the jaws to grip well in this configuration.
    -- The handle was made with dogwood ends because my father said the stuff doesn't split even when held onto the shaft with a pin that can be removed.

    I realize this is after the fact, but consider putting a metal or rubber ring around each end of the handle to avoid them from breaking off. They get turned and dropped dozens of times a week.

    You might consider removing the extra piece of cherry so the when long boards are clamped they press against the side of the entire work top. If the wood pressing against the plywood edge is a concern, it would be possible to cut an 1/8th inch thin strip of hardwood to face trim the top.

    Great addition to your workbench....... I think those are called a Moxon vise ?

    • @leonardbutler9338
      @leonardbutler9338 Рік тому +1

      @darrellallen7931, a Moxon vise sits on top of a workbench as opposed to being built into it.

    My first workbench is also the BMW from Steve Ramsey. Did you double up the 3/4 plywood for the new top?

    • @woodworkingwithSkyler
      @woodworkingwithSkyler  2 місяці тому

      Yes. My vise required 1.5 in top to install it so I double the top. I like that because as the top gets beat up, I can easily replace the top sheet of plywood ( it’s only attached with 5 screws to the plywood below

    Could you have instead screwed the vise inside the frame instead of outside, reducing the need for any overhang at all? You're already cutting holes in the frame.
