Geralt wearing the Manticore gear in W1 is game cannon according to W3. When you're in the dialog with the grand master smith and your asking about the hints for the different gear, Geralt comments that he once wore some Manticore gear.
I like to think that we can learn a lot about the various Witcher schools and their philosophies by examining the stats and bonuses their armour grants its wearer in game (especially when upgraded to the grandmaster level). These philosophies are further supported by the representative animals or mascots from which the schools get their names, each having its own strengths, specialties, and characteristics. The Cat school set is light and flexible making it perfectly suited to quick precise strikes and agile fighting (hence, increased critical hit chance, damage and the chance to apply a bleeding effect.) This makes the gear ideal for assassins and rogue-like witchers. The School of the Bear equipment on the other hand, is much heavier and durable; emphasizing hard-hitting strong attacks and defence, capable of absorbing lots of damage. Similarly it's bonuses apply to quen-shields. This armour is meant for a hardened warrior who craves the thrill and ferocity of battle (hence it's increased adrenaline point gain). This philosophy seems to align with the culture and traditions of Skellige which embody honour and glory through combat perhaps hinting at the origin or location of the bear school caste. The Wolf School gear gives all-round bonuses making it a jack of all trades set. Versatile and adaptable, Wolf School armour allows its wearer to be a fierce and flexible fighter. This makes me believe that the wolf school witchers employed knowledge and techniques from many different practices to create a hybridized combat style. It's grandmaster bonuses allows the wearer to apply multiple blade oils to your swords and throw bombs quickly, demonstrating the versatility and practicality of this set. The Griffin School gear grants bonuses to magical abilities such as signs. The armour itself has a much more polished and elegant look compared to many of the more rugged Witcher sets. Being made of thick metal plates and adorned with decorative tassels and emblems the Griffin set looks quite similar to the armour worn by a knight. This makes me believe that the witchers from this school were a more regal and "noble" academic group, specializing in the study of magic and spells much like the sorcerers and mages of the world. The Manticore set grants bonuses to alchemical skills such as high toxicity tolerance and extra potion charges. Geralt describes manticores as "one of the worlds oldest and deadliest monsters" and their resemblance is said to be of a cross between a lion, bat, and scorpion with a tail capable of injecting toxins into its prey. I imagine that the Manticore School was an ancient Witcher school focused on the study and development of arcanea and elixirs such as potions, decoctions, and mutagens. Those are just some of my thoughts on the matter. As always, George your video was fantastic. I absolutely love all the lore and stories of the Witcher universe and it is with good reason that it is one of my favourite franchises of all time. I really hope that we eventually get more information about the various Witcher schools in a future game or other medium. Until then, keep up the great work!!
And love the manticore set. Completely fits the way I play. I focus mainly on swordplay and potions and such. Chug a few potions with some blade oils and for some creatures use deconcotions.
As much as I have loved everything Witcher and CDPR has done, I was surprised and disappointed they didn’t put a few Manticores in B&W. One for a contract and one in the wild.
I always liked the Manticore treasure hunt more than most of the other BaW Witcher gear hunts. The Wolf hunt is in 2 rooms of the same place, where as the Manticore hunt takes you on a journey all across the map. It’s quite fun.
_The Manticore myth was of Persian origin, where its name was "man-eater" (from early Middle Persian مارتیا mardya "man" (as in human) and خوار khowr- "to eat")._ - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manticore My theory is that Zerrikania is basically ancient Persia of the Witcher world. Since Azar Javed (literally means 'Eternal Fire' in Persian) is 'coincidentally' Zerrikanian too and ancient Persians used to worship fire in a religion called Zoroastrianism. witcher.wikia.com/wiki/Azar_Javed en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoroastrianism
yeah, the similarities are there for people who seek it. actually the very word magic comes from Mage, which were and are the Zoroastrian priests, they dealt with fire a lot and in the ancient world some of their trickery seemed like magic to people, but im guessing mainly to outsiders of Persia and the religion itself because magic itself has a different word in Persian, its called Jadoo. a lot of thing like the Mages in fantasy stories, their robes, the use of fire comes from that, Goerge Martin uses this reality wholesale, of course with a touch of fantasy, in creating the Lord of Light and its religion and priests, Malisandre even confesses that a lot of her "magic tricks" are just tricks of alchemy or chemistry. Azar means fire in old Persian, it has evolved into Atash in the Modern Persian. even the country Azerbaijan, means the land of Fire because there were a lot of Zoroasterian temples there, there is even an area in Iran's Azerbaijan province called Moghan field, which translates to the field of Mages. and Javed or better Javid (which is pronounced JAhveed if you want a Persian pronunciation ) means Eternal. though i have to say the Eternal Fire and its followers are very ironic because they are so anti magic and are basically mage hunters if we link it to Persian culture and zoroastrianism, because the very word magic comes from its followers.
Terry Merry if you want to get more specific with the similarities, here are some that i spotted, also there isn't a lot of information about Zerrikania. the fact that Tigers are found there, because the very word Tiger comes from the River Tigris which was in Persia ( now in modern day Iraq ). the animal was found aplenty there, in fact hunting it was a sport to keep the non fighting troops of Persian army fit, they also wore the skin as a trophy. Camels can be found there, which Bart the Troll talks about i think. Camels were found in Persia, although not as much as Arabia. having great Archers were also a thing that the Persian Army was known for, which later turned into Archery on horseback in Sassanian dynasty ( google the Battle of Carrhae, its awesome! ). also Persia having spices are somewhat true, for example 90-95% of Zaffron is from Iran, even today. as far as being a matriarchy, it was not the case, although Persian women had a lot more power than women in greece whom had the same rights as a slave. there even a few generals and Queens, like Atoosa and Artemis.
Manticore Armour is hands down the best armour in the Witcher 3 because of it’s toxicity stats along with a toxicity build you become unstoppable and able to kill monsters 20-30 levels above you
The quest where you meet the Reavers us probably one of my favorite sociable moments in this game. Those dudes were like a bunch of big brothers. I wish I could have done another quest with them.
I would love to see the concept of creating your own Witcher come up for the next Witcher game. Maybe have others make cameos, but not as headmasters or anything. More like you get say track and fight a few monsters with Gerralt, or something in that ball park. Maybe you are questing during Witcher 2 or 3 time or even it's after those events and the events of the book. You have been created along with a handfull of new Witchers to help fight some big beast or evil or just a turn that the World has taken. Ciri has proclaimed it to be done as she has taken over the Nilfgardian Kindgdom. Or maybe by choosing your school, you choose your starting spot and we see all different parts of the land this time. Could be super cool, but a huge under taking too!
Same. I keep saying this but almost everyone I know in the fan base shoots this idea down saying “it will take away from the story”. What story? We’re done with Geralt and Ciri, what more can they tell? I just want to be a simple Witcher and hunt monsters for coin.
Big Bird I’m aware of that, but CDPR’s games are already fanfiction. Sapkowski doesn’t consider them canon, there’s no such thing as the Bear, Viper, and Manticore schools. Regarding the author, he has a negative opinion on games overall. Sapkowski is ALREADY upset with the games as a whole.
At the start of the grandmaster witcher sets quest when you talk to the armorsmith and ask him about the School of the Manticore, Geralt mentions he used an armor designed from that school "a long time ago" which further confirms it as the armor he used in witcher 1. I thought I was the only one who noticed!
Nice to see you grow in subscribers every single video I come back to. I remember seeing your subcount when I first saw your videos and I was pleasantly suprised about your quality of your videos. Keep it up!
When you do new game +, the manticore armor is upgraded. It has a back chainmail cuirass over the leather jerkin, which I believe is an homage to the ‘ravens armor’ (or whatever his name was) you can get in the first game.
I hope that in the future CDP Red returns to the Witcher series and expands on the world by exploring the far eastern regions of Zerikania and Hakkland, as well as the far north of Kovir and Povis. Who else would want to see a school of the Wolverine complete with a few Xmen Easter eggs?
Yeah, those armors that Lambert and Eskel wear aren't witcher armors, since the official witcher armors have specialized diagrams and upgrade diagrams. Also, the gear that Geralt wears at the beginning of Wild Hunt is considered "hunting gear", but is, in fact, a basic form of the viper school gear.
I know the Witchers themselves hate the idea of more Witchers being made but what if someone else used a Djinn to obtain the lost knowledge to create them again? A few Mages actually seemed interested in Witchers so it wouldn’t surprise me. It would be interesting to see this happen in the next Witcher game, maybe some grand event happens populating the world with to many many monsters like another conjunction of the spheres or something.
I think that a Witcher game where it is a completely new story and you create your own character and choose which witcher school you want to go to and upgrade your character accordingly or even blending different techniques from varies schools into one character. But that is just what i think.
I was thinking about a new school called School of the Wraith. The witchers in the school learn very powerful magic, like superhuman speed or teleporting. And instead of carrying swords and drawing them, they could just summon one in their hand. They would wear light armor, since there aren't any schools that wear such armor, other than the Feline School. They would deal with humans much easier, as a plain bandit can't wield magic. However when it comes to deal with, for example, an Elementa class monster, like a golem, they would have to use combat skills to survive. It would also be cool if they could mix signs. Like Aard Igni, which knocks the enemy down and burn them. Or Axii Quen, which protects you, and if someone or something touches it they would be under the Axii effect. However their armor is quite weak, so you can be killed easily if you don't use your powers.
Man this game is great. And my friends are really missing out on Singleplayer games. They used to play COD and FIFA and GTA. Npw they play FIFA 19 and a little bit GTA online. But then don't enjoy singleplayer games. They say they're boring and don't feel like doing all the quests. I enjoy both Multiplayer games such as COD and Singleplayer games like Assassin's creed, The Witcher and Skyrim, Red Dead Redemption 2 (Campaign)
What bugs me about this set is that when looking at what's visually present in the armour, this set shouldn't be classified as medium armour. Especially when you compare it to the actual supposed light armour of the game (feline set) and you see a lot more actual armour pieces on the feline set, which include mail sleeves that technically speaking should weigh down a lot more, than on the manticore set. Even when comparing the NG+ legendary sets there's less armour on the manticore set than on the feline set. I'd also argue the same for the wolven set and the New Moon armour set from Hearts of Stone.
I hope if they make a multillayer online witcher universe. You can join one of the schools. When you master it you go to Kaer Mohen. And if you want to become an elite you go to geralt who lives in the woods and is 400 years old.
I know I'm late to the party but I don't think that the fact that manyicore armor looks like the armor from witcher 1 is a coincidence, the whole dlc was referring to the oryginal witcher and that armor was just the cherry on the top
Is there any info on what kind of combat this school specialised in, like the school of the Griffin where specialised in using signs the school of the bear specialised in physical combat what did this school specialise in
The equipment you get in Witcher 3 for the Manticore gives bonuses to alchemy items, so its roughly assumed they were experts in the creation and use of bombs and potions
Hey nice video I know its late but the mantocore armor has two looks one is the normal one the other is the legendary manicure armore in ng+ that has chaimale on it
So what was this then that I heard about the hole in the wall of kaer morhen because of assassin's of some sort then? Did both peasants and assassin's try to get rid of the school of the wolf?
Do we actually meet the manticore school witcher in tw3 or no, also, I'm on my second playthrough and want to meet as many witchers as I can because I only actually saw 1 outside of the wolf school in that playthrough, so how many witchers can you actually meet in the game?
in TW 3 geralt specifically mentions to the grandmaster armorer in toussaint that he only heard but never actually saw a grandmaster witcher armor... so no geralt most certailny did not wear a grandmaster set in TW1
Another cool fact is that the original idea of the first witcher game of CD Projekt in 2003 would have focused on the school of the manticore. Geralt would have been a side character and the main protagonist would have been a female witcher named Mika. Go to this video to see the GamePressures video on it. ua-cam.com/video/MhlNUvveuUk/v-deo.html
*WAS* the only remaining Viper witcher. Game-canon wise Letho is dead. Hence why it's an option to include him in the game alternatively. And I agree, Manticore school is the best witcher school imo! I wish I could choose this school in a future TW4 game. The Manticore emblem on the swords look awesome as hell. Love the Zerrikanian vibe this school gives. Plus alchemy boost + crit on bombs is just amazingly op.
Some new Information was Released on the witcher schools, be sure to watch this updated video! ua-cam.com/video/Kk4SePoGNBw/v-deo.html

They should make a game, where you actually play as a Witcher from one of the schools that aren’t well known. As the viper, manticore, or bear.
That would be awesome!
2:45 he looks more like a member of the Thieves Guild tbh.
@@Adam1602 thanks 👌👌
Greeaaat ! While wolf looks best, this is def 2nd on my list. Btw what is the awesome music?
ua-cam.com/video/IyOAoj_Qzjc/v-deo.html I think maybe this one and thank you man!
I like that the outfit is Geralt’s from the first game
Who is the actor behind the voice in the beginning cutscene? He sounds so familiar.
It's the voice actor of Geralt
Manticore: Imma umnumnum you.
Geralt: *hmmm bacon*
School of the Snail next, please? ;)
the witcher ttrpg (in the game conan with CDPR) has a a lot more lore in the witchers journal and in a free pdf on the website
I was about to criticise how you can wear the armor without it being a powder then I realized it’s a diagram containing the set lmao
Hey nice video I know its late but the mantocore armor has two looks one is the normal one the other is the legendary manicure armore in ng+ that has chaimale on it
Love it thanks man
thank you mate
I know I'm late but did no one notice when he showed the Witcher he was in solitude from Skyrim
So what was this then that I heard about the hole in the wall of kaer morhen because of assassin's of some sort then? Did both peasants and assassin's try to get rid of the school of the wolf?
That's in the witcher 1, from the salamanda!
Nice and sexy looking armor. In W3 maybe the nicest you can wear. Manticore school made witcher world much more rich.
Do we actually meet the manticore school witcher in tw3 or no, also, I'm on my second playthrough and want to meet as many witchers as I can because I only actually saw 1 outside of the wolf school in that playthrough, so how many witchers can you actually meet in the game?
Is there any more schools?
I am here so that I can get this Armor for my Alchemy Build
Is Ciri's alt outfit manicure or wolf variant? I can't tell but it derives from one of them it looks like.
Most likely wolf, if any
My favorite Armor for B@W was the Manticore one
in TW 3 geralt specifically mentions to the grandmaster armorer in toussaint that he only heard but never actually saw a grandmaster witcher armor... so no geralt most certailny did not wear a grandmaster set in TW1
though once I wore some armor from there-Geralt to Lafargue about the Manticore set
At 2.44 that witcher has a symbol on his shoulder gaurd is it just me or doesn't the thieves guild master armoer from skyrim have the same symbol
I checked its exactly the same as the one on brynolfs armor
skyrimhero 96 yeah man, there are no images of him, but this was just an impression, just happened to be in Skyrim
WitcherGeorge oh right haha that explains it my mind immediately shouted conspiracy straight away haha
skyrimhero 96 haha
What was that clip at the beginning from?
A flashback in the witcher 2 my friend
Jad Karadin: “They say no witcher has ever died in his bed, I aim to be the first”
Merten: *Hold my Witcher gear*
Hm. Never thought about that
2:48 is that solitude
When you show a picture of murtan or however you spell it, you show an image of Skyrim, in solitude...
Yes! There were no actual images of him so, I improvised!
What's that part in the beginning from?
witcher 2 flash backs!
WitcherGeorge thank you
Another cool fact is that the original idea of the first witcher game of CD Projekt in 2003 would have focused on the school of the manticore. Geralt would have been a side character and the main protagonist would have been a female witcher named Mika. Go to this video to see the GamePressures video on it.

A Great vid
Manticore is the best school
〈/sanity〉 The Sloth nah viper is or was. Letho is the only remaining viper
Terry Merry idk I think in the canon story geralt let's him go
#teambearschool
Yes, combat/alchemy mix is the best!
School of the Wolf video coming?
22:30 gmt today haha
What was that. Merten in solitude ? Is he the son of Mercer ?
In new game+ there’s a different variant
NG+ version is the chainmail version of the Manticore school armor. The vanilla (non-NG+) one is made of leather instead.
Yeah, with chainmail on it
Yeah, I think it’s an homage to the ravens armor you can unlock in the first game.
Adam McAllister I like it better with the chainmail.
Yeah it looks like crap
