- With all the travel I do in my job I thought I'd make a video of some National Anthems of countries I've been to. This was recorded on my Hauptwerk Organ system I assembled in my home a few years ago. The organ in this recording is the Paramount 450 which is my favorite Hauptwerk sample!

APC6 No, after the collapse of Soviet Union, it was another Anthem, and this became again the Anthem in 2000 or something like.
Search "Russian Anthem 1992-2000" you'll find it. :)

If you hear the anthem with people singing too many times, you will start to hear like as if there was a chorus singing it.

You're very welcome Patrick. By the way, I studied this video carefully -- you played "O Canada" in the key of E flat and "The Star Spangled Banner" in the key of B flat, am I correct? Yes, I am aware that almost every American military band plays "The Star Spangled Banner" in B flat -- and I've found that most well-known sports venue organists play it (or have played it) in this key as well, including the late Eddie Layton (he was the organist at the old Yankee Stadium from 1967 until 2003) and the late Jane Jarvis (she was the organist at old Shea Stadium from 1964 until 1979). :^)
I agree, it's actually quite pretty. If you manage to capture the dynamics between melody and lyrics, you will find the essence of the Scandinavian psyche. Quite a daunting task, isn't it. But I'm sure you can do it.

I have noticed certain similarities, all the Communist run countries/former have brilliant national anthems, take note though, I am no advocate for communism or am a communist myself. Just think a lot of the countries had VERY patriotic anthems.

WOW! The rendition of the "Star-Spangled Banner" has the quick tempo of the late Boston organist John Kiley, sounding like it was played at the old Chicago Stadium. Excellent!
Gordon... I'm impressed you put that together with John Kiley.. as he was my idol when I was growing up and I tried to play as he did. My claim to fame in life is having gotten to play the Hammond X66 at Fenway Park for a few minutes before a game when I was 19 years old back in 1977 thanks to John Kiley! And my favorite pipe organ was indeed the Chicago Stadium Organ as well!! Thanks for commenting

Patrick, these are really, really good. I particularly like the Canadian & American ones. I really like your use of ritardando for dramatic effect at the end of both, as well as the way the anthems transition between one another. Your chord mix during the Star-Spangled Banner is unique but well done and uses really good progressives, plus, the mix of minor and major near the end creates for some neat dissonance and resolution. Well done, sir!
Thanks Dan! I have not ever taken musical lessons, so I don't quite know what "dissonance and resolution" mean.
I don't know if I'd consider them "musical" terms, necessarily.
Dissonance and resolution, to me, mean to be alternately, and purposely, disharmonious and harmonious. At 11:42, you change the harmony on the word "free" of "o'er the land of the free" mid-note. It creates a kind of a dissonance -- a kind of an uneasy feeling like, "This is a different harmony." But then you come to a resolution, a settling into a very harmonious chord to end the song.
There's just some neat yin-and-yang going on and I really like it.
I try to play the anthem the way my childhood organist idol did. He was a ballpark organist and had played it in an amazingly fast 60 seconds. I try to slow it down but have followed for the most part his style. John Kiley at Fenway Park. ua-cam.com/video/rfoHX7i-qAY/v-deo.html

Nope. It is about Willem van Oranje who says things from his perspective. The last sentence of the first verse ends with "Den Koning van Hispanje
heb ik altijd geëerd." Which is kinda old-Dutch for "I have always honored the king of Spain.", which sounds pretty weird for a historical Dutch tekst, because the Dutch have almost always been at war with Spain lol. But it isn't about a Spanish guy.
