  • Well, what can I say, if it were kiln dried, then I doubt it would have moss growing on it !

Yes good dry kindling is your only man.. And trying to burn damp wood is madness.. You have to be 6 months to a year ahead and when it's dry keep out of the rain and off the ground that's my 2 pence and it works for me love the content👍🇮🇪🍀

I'm very disappointed that a well know supermarket, their brand was on the bag ! is selling this stuff. I should have been paying attention 😏
I'll be ordering up the sand and chips to lay the foundations for the log store in the next day or so. Had the rebar for ages.
It will be poly carbonate roof and will get the fans to make it a kiln.
There is no comparison, Burning wet firewood is just boiling water ! Dry firewood, especially Eucalyptus burns hot and clean.
Thanks for taking the time 👍🏻 and the encouragement, much appreciated 🍀

oh and a tip for burning in a stove put your big stuff on the bottom and light from the top. But your timber will need to be a bit dryer than that rubbish!

Dry for everything, and if it can be Eucalyptus which has a very low combustion temperature, then even better 😉
I've seen the top down method, I'll give it a go next winter once I have some of my own kiln dried firewood.
Thanks for taking the time, much appreciated 👍🏻
      Good luck 🍀

I've been drying it out in front of the stove while its burning, and likewise, love the pine / spruce smell. the batch of "kiln dried" in the video was €5.50 a bag
I bought some other stuff today in another well know supermarket, a branded companies kiln dried, its about 16% according to the tester and doesn't burn well at all 😏 €8 a bag !
Also bought some from the local shop, I'll need to test it again, though think it was around 26% as well €5 a bag, though a bigger bag.
Some of the Eucalyptus is very fragrant, others not so much.
Do you have any Eucalyptus growing on your patch ?

I had a bag of wood from the petrol station that got rained on and didn't burn well. I'd build a fire using good wood on the bottom and then stick the moist wood on top to "roast". By the time the bottom wood burned out, the top wood was almost fully dried and ready to burn / turn into coals to fire up another load for roasting. It wasn't as good as properly dried wood though. I'm curious, how "spitty" is your Eucalyptus wood in the fire compared to Cedar or Hawthorn for example? I love the sound of it crackling and spitting safely behind the glass door of the stove. I'm looking forward to seeing your new wood drying set up 👍

Eucalyptus doesn't crackle or spit at all 🙂
The very dry kindling which would have been pine or spruce did most of the crackling; the "kiln dried' firewood would be likewise be conifer.
Weather is a bit more clement today, so will order up the sand and chips to start the foundations for the kiln drying log store in the next week or so...
Thanks for taking the time Julian, much appreciated 👍🏻
      Good luck 🍀

26% is not even air dried! I get down to 15% air drying outside with just sheets of plywood on top to keep of the rain. Anything over 20% is a complete waste of time, your just burning wood to boil of water,
