With the X20, the bass boost is just a modified EQ Curve, what i mean that's what it is in most speakers, but for instance, with JBL Partyboxes, Bass Boost Modes is more than that, you cannot achieve the same results using either the JBL App EQ or a Third Party EQ, there is something on the DSP that modifies the output mode, in this case for the X20 you can achieve the same level of Bass with the EQ, without the Bass Boost mode while keeping the rest of the frequencies clean. The Firmware upgrade fixed it, but you can literally set it up for the same amount of default bass with or without Bass Boost mode as it's basically a EQ2 Mode that you toggle, not a different instruction for the DSP but it's great that W-King modified it to make it more useable, i think it was a great improvement but i still prefer to setup the EQ from the app with BB Mode Off.
@@Satorikn Don't think this is correct. I have played with the EQ for hours to get the same amount of base without bass boost on. (Pre new firmware) Could never get the same amount out of it.

I mean the X20 has a triangular shape and the cylinder curve is more pronounced, it is definitely "inspired" on the boombox. But we can then also agree that the Ult Field 7 and the XG series from sony are as well, side passive radiators, front firing woofers and also with the battery powered XP and XV series compared to JBL Partybox line. This one was definitely interesting and one i was looking forward too but wasn't expecting yet, but they are on the hot boombox segment along with the JBL BB3 and it's interesting the top 3 are so close with different variations, but comparing these two the Sony is definitely more refined than the W-King on presentation, on sound its hard to tell through a video as I've learned sound has many layers more than just the frequencies a microphone can capture, but from what i get the W-King is still slightly more V-Shaped and while Sony has moved towards the V-Shape is still slightly warmer. Being so close the main factor would be price. If both were the same price i'd probably go with the more refined presentation of the Sony as a package, but being so distant in price, i'd go with the X20. I am not saying the Sony sounds better or worse than the X20 but the whole thing looks just more refined, however the X20 hits a little bit deeper from what i got and Sony is known to throttle the Lows when the volume goes up, very known with their XP500 and XP700 while on battery power.
This is one of the closest comparisons that you’ve ever done. Good one, Jay. I watched Dominik’s review of these 2 speakers in an outdoor comparison, & he had the bass boost on the X20. I made the comment that if you take the bass boost off & adjust the 10 band EQ properly, it would sound much better, giving the Sony a real competition.😅
For the money, and sound, i go with wking. I just got mine yesterday and its a whole different ballgame when the speaker is in front of you. $242 with $95 code!! Love it!!! This is definitely a bb3 killer! Only thing i dont like is the wking when in bass boost looses vocals a bit...muffles them...

the bass of sony is always behind, it just always had the overall sound quality as claimed, but not this time for ult field 7. it doesn't sound round and full, watch or compare it with tribit. the only track i find descent through sony is that metal song. though it doesn't sound muffled, it's that w-king sounded muffled. i'd say they'd sound close if you compare it with xg500. but w-king is far cheaper thing, far smaller company compared to sony. it's such a hype sony trying out this new ult series but i'll still skip this one. tower10 lacks internal battery and field1 isn't worth replacing my xb23 yet.
Sony bass is muddled and has discrepancies…with the w king with bass boost it’s ha s the same issue… but with EQ with the w king with no bass boast sounds awesome especially for the price!… another great option is the zealot s98, but it’s bass isn’t as deep but much clearer and open compared to these two! Also it’s cheaper than them both!
Yeah, the X20 was a bit louder. I think an outdoor test between these two, with the Sony using ULT2, might be a little different result. ULT2 is more of an outdoor mode and does bump the output up some.
