    Ya'll really don't think shit through. This is meant for choosing a dog for training, for police or service or whatever. You want a dog that trusts you and is obedient, that is not easily scared and that can focus on the task. If it loves food, it makes it easier to train it because it'll never refuse edible treats and will have a higher drive to obey you. That's what the test is for.

      Having a dog used to shop sounds is great! Even I jump when I visit my mechanic and something loud happens. While mine was a puppy I would sneak her into the classroom after school or have my roommates bring her at lunch time. (I'm a teacher) So she got used to 50 little hyper mini people crowding her at once and crazy chaos. It's definitely paid off now that she's an adult - nothing bothers her.
      ETA mine will go on her back but only when I'm holding her or rubbing her belly on the ground. Otherwise she hates it but she's chill otherwise - maybe slightly on the side of dominant (hey she's 10 pounds so she's got little dog genes) but gets along fine with others.

    Had the most obediant smart and loving dog because i did one thing: i treated him like a brother. When i was told by my land lord he had to stay outside i slept in a lounge chair and he slept on my chest. After a night or two he became alright with being outside while i was in school and he could be by himself. I took him everywhere i went and i never used a leesh. We ran on the beach, streets and across bridges and although at first he wanted to run away from the edge of the bridge when i directed him behind me out of the street he complied. He never stopped keeping up with me. Other dogs would sometimes join in on the run but after 5 miles they gave up. I got him in San Diego just before the torch relay in 84. He taught me how to speak dog language and i taught him human. One of the only black and tan shepards with true blue eyes i ever saw. Unfortunately he followed me when i rode to the grocery store a mile away. As i was grabbing something down an isle here he comes with his nose to the ground. Of course that was no problem but not long after i rode to a club and that was the last i saw of him. I knew what had happened. He had run no doubt to the same store on that friday night and someone took him home. He was only 6 months old but had been to a great many places with me and my neighbor a psychologist who also proclaimed him a smart dog. His favorite thing was as we ran along a side walk with a wall of bushes he would go into the treeline runing by squirrels and then wait for me at the next break in the bushes. Hadsuch a look of brilliance in his face. At 5 months for 2 weeks he attempted talking but it was too confusing and he gave up and his vocal cords were only compatible during that two weekswhen he grew to a simular size in his neck. Never had a dog so brilliant again.

    "Does your puppy actually need you to know how to meet it's needs, reassure them, and know what the heck you're doing? Yes? Well, then you better pass on it. That puppy is probably a bad one because it makes you look like an owner that doesn't want to learn anything... And who wants that level of commitment and work ethic?!" 🙄
    As someone who has worked (as in it was how i paid my bills) in shelters this message is so irresponsibly packaged. It blames the dog and not the person and is a massive reason that puppies are abandoned at shelters between the 6mo-1.5yr range (you know when you actually have to WORK with your dog). If you want the "perfect pup" in order to have it earn the right to come home with you... then go find a stuffed animal.
    You deciding to make it work and then reworking your habits, routines, and cues to adjust to what your dog needs is going to make it work, not food drive.

When I tried to flip her over she resisted, I did flip her, she squirmed a moment, then submitted. This was so her. When she went to the groomers, she put on a show, did not want to be left, then once left submitted readily. When I brushed her, same m.o. When left with doggy daycare, same issues. Reunions were the best! At the Vet's, she begged for treats. I miss her so much.

    I tried this on my 3 years old German shepherd. He's 95 pounds, so I can no longer hold like that. So I failed that. He's scared of everything, especially when I'm flapping the garbage bag. And he's definitely not food motivated. He's still the bestest boy.

    My Husky/Shepherd can handle pretty much any loud noise I can throw at him but he turns into an absolute chicken sh!t whenever there’s thunder or fireworks happening.
    His brother is the opposite. He freaks out when I make loud noises but doesn’t care about thunder or fireworks.

    This was a joke. You can already see you have been working with this pup for a while. How he comes an sit/look to you, follows your hand for the treat.
    I had a GSD that was zero treat motivated, Alph, zero fear, Donner was a protection/therpy/k9 S&R at the snap of your fingers. Mercy I still miss him. He passed away at 11yr old.

    He could fail all three miserably and he'd still be a good dog. Just because a dog is submissive, skittish, and not food driven in NO way means that that dog doesn't have all of the love in the world to give and doesn't deserve all of the love you have to give them.

      He's talking from a professional training point of view. And even if you aren't a professional if you're paying big amounts of money on a dog from a reputable breeder there's nothing wrong with looking for one with the qualities you desire.

    First of all all puppies are winners. And second of all a dog does not need to be food driven to be easily trainable.

  • @subinshakya9877
    @subinshakya9877 Рік тому

    Just because the puppy is scared of noise or isn't food driven, you would pass him/her away? May be as someone who thinks himself as a dog expert like yourself should, I don't know, train that puppy on how to be confident, rather than throwing the pup away?
    It's easy to train an already good pup, train a scared or submissive or even a dominant and then try to make that pup's life better, rather than making your training sessions easier.
