It actually is. It is pretty strong for what it is, and it will take a good cut. I had a big 14 inch leblond, would hold .0005 across a 36 inch cut. But it weighed over a ton, and was 10 feet long. This serves my purpose.

I'm really not trying to be an asshole here and I get that it's just a cheap machine. But wouldn't it be or stay in better shape if it was better taken care of? I don't exactly know what it cost, but I'd love to have it. I just can't afford it. Which brings me to my point. It just pisses me off to see equipment get trashed and abused when it's not necessary. Take some pride in your equipment. It will last longer and help you do better work. Just say'en.

Well the lathe work is 1 percent of what I do. A lot of the dirt you see is bondo dust as I am finishing the 29 chrysler. The chips and oil actually protect it. I should make some sort of cover for it, yes, of course. On these lathes, dirt is not the problem, water is. You clean it up good, and it will rust in one day. When I am doing precision work, I keep everything clean. Thanks for the comment.
