Hi guys....nice work on the hat by both of you! One suggestion that might save wear and tear on your fingers the next time you're sewing fur (or leather) is to punch holes through both layers with your sharp pointy scissors first. Then the needle will pull through the holes easily. Also saves wear and tear on the needles.
I'm a seamstress and that bothered me. Taking care of a needle was top priority in 1820. He still did a great job.
We need to get you started quilting Justine!

I remember posting, "...Wait a minute, is that a skunk on your head?" Didn't realize it was a hat. Here, I watched the hat being made, and I saw how nice it is, and saw all the work going into it. I love the black and white contrast. It does make a good 1820's fashion statement.

I am so tickled that your intro music is from the George Washington series with Barry Bostwick! I grew up watching it all of the time and just randomly watched it on UA-cam this past weekend. As usual the two of you made me lmao. God forgive me but the hat made me think of that movie....Joe Dirt...where his parents glue the mullet wig on his head. Next time you have to sew through thick material here's an old fashioned trick i learned. When I had babies I used cloth diapers, doubling the night diaper..which made the needle not go through. An older Lady told me to rub the pin on my scalp and it would go through easily....and it does!!!! I dont know if it's the oils or what but that needle went through like butter!!! I don't know why I watched this with great interest, I would love to make something like this for winter, there is a distinct lack of skunks over here in England though. I have got a pet ferret though lol, poor Pixie I wouldn't do that to her. I have some fake fur I think I'll make a fur hat with that, that skunk hat suited both of you though.

Watching this video brought back memories of a good friend of mine an avid hunter & trapper he owned a skunk hat. He passed away several years ago watching this made me think of him thank you

Ron, I've found that using a little patch of latex, such as from an inner tube tire, or the tourniquet that lab techs use to tie your arm for a blood draw, makes it much easier to grip a needle and pull it through tough skins.
But that didn’t exist in their time.
This is Ron's version of a mink hat! LOL!
That hat will go with Ron’s waistcoat he doesn’t like.
