Haven't watched further than 5:40 yet, but... if you double the damage of Heartless Hidetsugu's ability, doesn't it only kill players with an even life total? Since it rounds down, it will leave someone with an odd life total on 1 health, no? Example: you're at 21 health, Hidetsugu deals 10, doubled to 20... which leaves you at 1.
fetches in mono blue are great for mystic sanctuary: in response to a spell with a remora/rhystic trigger on the stack you can fetch for sanctuary and put a counter spell back on top then draw it and counter the spell, feels amazing
I could be wrong here - but the 4/4 Angels are created by a replacement effect from divine visitation and NOT by the attack trigger ability of Adeline - therefore they should not be entering tapped an attacking. Prove me wrong?
614.1a Effects that use the word “instead” are replacement effects. Most replacement effects use the word “instead” to indicate what events will be replaced with other events. So the continuous effect from Divine Visitation effectively changes Adeline's triggered ability to read "Whenever you attack, for each opponent, create a 4/4 white Angel creature token with flying and vigilance that’s tapped and attacking that player or a planeswalker they control."
8 dmg for each creature that dies on blakes board was very worrying. Althought, he should had got rid of divine since he could have enough dmg to kill blake and cgb. But then again, cgb would have gone all in on ben if he destroyed his both toys. It was hard choice.
Disagreed. Not knowing about Adelaine in hand (or what will it do, but this is besides the point), cutting CGB from half the mana and cutting both incidental damage and lifegain from Blake was not incorrect. If Ben targetted CGB with both, CGB already had enough to kill him. The goal was for CGB to kill Blake (cause CGB had to this turn) and hope that CGB has only enough to kill Blake and deploy defenses (over which Ben would trample through). If CGB kills Blake and it gets to Ben turn, Ben wins The end result was different, but that doesn't mean play was incorrect. It's more likely that mana and +1/+1 from Caged Sun will be relevant that turn than the tokens being bigger (knowing about Nissa in Bens hand)
Would the Mondrak-doubled Angel tokens come in tapped and attacking though? Obviously the copied tokens have flying and vigilance but I’m not so sure that the “tapped and attacking” property would be copied.
@@jerryloiselle8507 It's a replacement effect same as Divine visitation. Adeline says "for each opponent create 1(one) 1/1 token that is tapped and attacking". Divine visitation replaces 1/1 with 4/4 angels with flying and vigilance and Mondrak replaces 1 token with 2*1 tokens. In the end Adeline's trigger looks like this: "For each opponent create 2(two) 4/4 angels with flying and vigilance that are tapped and attacking". Cheers!
LOL Ben has the absolute BEST opening Graphic pictures.. Just Hilarious! And each one is either better or funnier then the last.. Go Ben! Also was this the fastest WPCS? Daymn.. insane.. Congrats CGB. Also kind of disappointed to not see what the Blue Dominus could have done with it's Double Proliferate triggers. :D
Caught the preview of the deck when CGB had Amazonian review it, and it did not disappoint. I only regret how quickly this game ended. Brutal end, gg's!
Yeah, I run fetches. Mono utility nonbasics I want to fetch, but mostly for the slight thinning effect. I'd usually rather have it than not, though if I REALLY want to draw a ton of lands, maybe I leave them out. The 1 life is such a tiny cost it's more than worth it.
I'm fine with fetches in monocolor, it thins things and increases the likelihood of drawing nonland cards, although it's arguably negligible in a 100 card deck. But, every fetch gives a 1% increase in the likelihood your next draw is a nonland card, so it's not nothing.
My Solphim deck got completely reduced to ashes because an "all sacrifice permanents" partner black green deck in a two head game, I suffered more than my opponents of collateral damage
One day, Blake saw a poor, emaciated child sitting on the curb. The boy asked him for some food, so Blake spit in his face and punched him in the mouth. “Play fetchlands in your mono-colored decks and maybe you could eat, nerd,” Blake said. That boy grew up to be Richard Garfield.
Unless I use graveyard synergy, landfall, or brainstorm effects, I don't run fetchlands in monocolored deck. At this point there are math papers explaining why deck thinning has so little relevance that it isn't even worth the life point loss (and we know of how little worth 1 life is).
I dont use fetchlands in my mono color decks......I play snow-covered basics and a extraplanar lens, caged sun, fist of gaunlet......the normal basic fetches(evolving wilds, fabled passage, terramorphic expanse, myraid landscape)
For fetches, it’s more that it’s a good way to get the Eldraine lands that have some side effect. That’s the reason where i’d see 1 or 2 in it, for example for the blue land
Well CGB, when will we have the multiverse episode where you do a five player commander game against yourself with CGW, CGB (black), CGR, and CGG? I guess you could have the crew and your wife cosplay as you if you don't want an episode of goldfishing haha
Hey CGB… replacement effects don’t stack with other replacement effects. So making a bunch of Mondrak’s with HOTH doesn’t make it where you get to double things a bunch of times.
Sorry, but that's just wrong. The game checks after each replacement effect applies to determine the set of choices for the next iteration until there are no more replacement effects to apply.
Overall, CGB did a cool 120 damage on the final swing and gained 120 life. Gotta love token decks... Not as evil as Jetmir but Mondrak is one of the best mono white commanders of the past couple years. I would say it's right next to Adeline in play ability.
So, because I haven't seen any math done yet... 8 vigilant 4/4 angels 1 4/4 Mondrak 6 tapped 4/4 angels made from Adeline 15 × 4 = 60 With double strike 120 damage And after the 4 from Shea's mana barbs CGB ended with 132 life.
Wouldn't the adeline make 3 tapped and attacking and than make 3 that would come in untapped. You're not copying the attack trigger your just making extra tokens. Correct me if I'm wrong
I actually started not playing fetch lands.... I have gotten sick of constant shuffling my deck. In fact all my ramp decks dont get played because of that reason.
I don't believe fetches are needed in casual, even in 3+ color decks, unless you're doing landfall. There are now enough good lands that you can build a really good mana base without fetching.
@@JuniorOrtiz738 Nah, if you built your mana base correctly, getting a triome isn't needed. I have built everywhere from mono-5C mana bases without fetch lands and don't get color screwed.
I've got a bunch of decks , among them are like 4 dif 5color decks and I don't run any of the fetch lands (I do throw in from time to time typical evolving wilds type lands), cause casual games and they really aren't needed if you're playing casual. I very rarely if ever have Mana issues, hell for the fun of it I got the Jared Cartholion pre con and I'm using it's Mana base from the pre con and put in all 10 lieges and running it as a colors matter type deck for casual play and only once was I locked off casting a liege out of idk a dozen or so playthroughs. Fetches are great but agreed they for sure are not needed , anyone who thinks they need fetches are probably lackluster at deck building and figuring out their Mana curve/pips and such tbh.
Why are people obsessed with matching lands? I love the MTG lands, so I always make an effort to put as many different gorgeous lands in my decks :O (and thematically don’t these represent the different lands that you draw your mana from?)
how does he go from doing 4 damage when stuff dies to 8 in the same turn, everyone questions it and the they continue but im pretty sure its supposed to only be 4 lol
Yep, doubles the swamps to be able to tap for two mana. With regards to the Extort, even though it says "Tap W/B to extort" since the w/b symbol is in the REMINDER text (parentheses) it can be in a mono black or mono white deck just fine. (Of course, Crypt Ghast has a black pip in his CMC so he can only be in a deck containing black) :)
The blue dominus is pretty shit as a commander. Mono blue proliferate isn't really a thing. You could probably make it work, but the white dominus is definitely the best one.
Without knowing Adeline was in hand it was the correct play, she’s won me several games from out of nowhere doubling her tokens she puts out and turning them into 4/4 flyers was gross
Thinning the deck (if that's the only purpose of what you're doing) is mathematically not a thing for 99-card decks. If you can use the graveyard or want to shuffle or something, sure, but you have not actually altered any statistics of your deck in any meaningful way. So please, mono-color decks, don't use fetch lands if they have no purpose other than "thinning the deck." You can do the math and see how virtually nonexistent the stats change.
😂😂 The poses they do each week always crack me up in the intros. This time Ben just edited to stretch off the screen. Top comedy from this crew 😆
BIG Ben
They copy the poses of their commanders

Cgb being dominant dominus makes sense - that's why he likes to have a lot of subs

Yes thats true, BUT the double tokens attacking was an error. They are double indeed but only the normal batch will enter tapped and attacking.
YES! Am loving these last themed games!
Bauble is definitely wholesome.
Cmooon, that force of vigor HAD to kill Divine Visitation, how did Ben miss that?
8 dmg for each creature that dies on blakes board was very worrying. Althought, he should had got rid of divine since he could have enough dmg to kill blake and cgb. But then again, cgb would have gone all in on ben if he destroyed his both toys. It was hard choice.

Ben not removing divine visitation was pretty troll tbh
“It does have trample, btw”
I would expect nothing less from coke-bear
That opening tripped me up. Did a double take on what video I'd actually clicked on 😂
Yeah, I run fetches. Mono utility nonbasics I want to fetch, but mostly for the slight thinning effect. I'd usually rather have it than not, though if I REALLY want to draw a ton of lands, maybe I leave them out. The 1 life is such a tiny cost it's more than worth it.
So at the end, when the 2 angels per person enter, isn't the one entering as a double just entering without the "tapped and attacking" clause?
I think you’re right
It is a replacement effect, so the angel will come in tapped attacking, that is not wrong

Wow! That was a quick one. Such a game 😂
I personally don’t run off color fetches outside of dedicated lands decks. That’s probably because I have too many decks and find fetching tedious

Last weekend, I gave everyone 1000 bananas and decked out.
It was a 5 player commander game.
The last 2 players claimed the world.
Blake brining the MAXIMUM sweat with the mono colored deck fetchlands.

CGB in Jim Carrey voice “tell me who is the dominant dominus” 😂
CGB coming in hot with the win-more strategy. Love it.
Is cryptgast playable even tho it has the option of a white pip in its exort ability? Its not in full mono black colors
Nvm had to look it up
The guy in the grey shirt looks like if Adam Devine and Ike Barinholtz had a child
I dont use fetchlands in my mono color decks......I play snow-covered basics and a extraplanar lens, caged sun, fist of gaunlet......the normal basic fetches(evolving wilds, fabled passage, terramorphic expanse, myraid landscape)
The feeling when you wanted to see the blue one rip 😭
If you have bolosis citadel you want to Crack a fetch to shuffle the top
You use fetchlands in mono black aristocrats for trimming, I use fetchlands in mono black aristocrats for lifeloss synergy. We are not the same
LOL this comment is gold
@@BlakeMTG No YOU are gold Blake. Never let anyone tell you any different. (And always believe in your soul)
"All the White's over here!"
Goreclaw aka cocaine bear ftw!
Isn't Crypt Ghast technically not allowed in a mono black deck, since it has the B/W hybrid pip?
It is allowed. The hybrid mana symbol is inside the reminder text brackets which can be functionally ignored for the purpose of colour identity.
What is the life total app being used here?
Kinda of a rock and a hard place there for ben/shea. I think this pod deserves a rematch at some point.
I agree with Blake, Ben needs to get his basic land situation figured out. Also, fetches in every deck, all the time XD
For fetches, it’s more that it’s a good way to get the Eldraine lands that have some side effect. That’s the reason where i’d see 1 or 2 in it, for example for the blue land

Fetch lands in mono make sense in landfall decks
Prepare for trouble, and make it double!
Fetches in monoblue are good because of brainstorm and similar effects

So, because I haven't seen any math done yet...
8 vigilant 4/4 angels
1 4/4 Mondrak
6 tapped 4/4 angels made from Adeline
15 × 4 = 60
With double strike 120 damage
And after the 4 from Shea's mana barbs
CGB ended with 132 life.
Supposed to make only 3 angels tapped and attacking from adeline and 3 non attacking
15 5/5 creatures with double strike and lifelink, 150 lifegain. Jeebus.
Caged Sun was already gone though, so they were 4/4's. 15 * 8 = 120 life.
Wouldn't the adeline make 3 tapped and attacking and than make 3 that would come in untapped. You're not copying the attack trigger your just making extra tokens. Correct me if I'm wrong
The tokens are copied with whatever conditions the originals are, so all are attacking.
There will never be a time I don't call Rankle the Master of Prankle.
i use fetch lands in my Cosima, God of the Voyage commander deck
Just in case anyone wanted to know, plural of dominus is domini
