I read the title as "Does a Virgin Bassist make a difference" clicked immediately 😁😂😂
I think that maybe since drummers can never find anything to disagree on, some of them stir up a meaningless flame war, just to sell you a solution.
Also, Simon Phillips literally puts paint cans full of sand in his bass drums. If that doesn't debunk this I don't know what does lol.
I actually like non virgin bass drums as opposed to virgin. Sure it doesn't change the sound much, but the mount actually provides some diffusion in the airflow, which provides some extra deadness in the kick which I don't mind. As far as the extra tom ring goes, I just use expanders/slow gates on those tracks and it fixes the issue no problem.
As usual, great take. Love these videos.
Especially in the case of a mic’ed recording it’s next to impossible to tell a difference even if you did know it was virgin
I like mounting my rack tom on a snare stand BUT it is so easy and convenient to mount the tom right on the bass drum.
Yup. I just bought a Yamaha Stage Custom and I love it. Dont need to take so much shit now
Sounds like a drum channel made video about that topic.
Cowboy Drummer 💯
I have a virgin bass drum... A free Ayotte dropped in my lap.
I prefer the mount on mine since its similar sounding but extra stand/mount.😂
And if ppl are that worried....
Heres the solution.....
If you have a virgin bass drum, you have a ported head. If you have a drilled bass drum,.go with a no port on the front head....now the drilled hole becomes the port. Boom..problem exchanged, for the same effect.
Its just marketing, looks, fashion and one more point for companies to exploit toward dummies, and theu know this
I like virgin bass drums... But only for the aesthetics.
No, ive recorded both, it makes no difference. The size of the front hole in a bass drum, or lack thereof, makes the big difference
I just like being the first guy to fuck my bass drum, is that so weird?
No...doesnt matter.
