This is the first YT watchmaker video I've seen where the watchmaker actually uses brass tweezers vs steel and a blade screwdriver that has a blade of lesser width than the screw's slot. I've seen many watchmakers scratch the chamfer countersink hole in a bridge with the blade of the screwdriver because there is no play for the screwdriver blade to move laterally.
I wish he did a date sub so everyone could see how ingenious the Rolex instantaneous date change is. Although I will say the giant perlaged bridge of the no date version on the dial side of the movement is pretty awesome...
zengmingde No they don't, I have a Hamilton with a basic 2824 and it changes day and date instantly. Unless you consider 1/10 of a second a transition period.
Logan Newcome the 2824 is semi instantaneous, the 2836 is instantaneous. The Rolex system is very unique and pretty awesome. It uses a small jewel that rolls along a gear with a specially designed post that makes it instantly change at midnight everytime. It's really pretty sweet.

This was fantastic ! I own a 30 year old submariner, it is my most solid and reliable watch that is almost my daily wear, it doesn't stand out or draw attention, but the finish quality is magnificent. And it goes with almost anything I am wearing.
This movement illustrates why Rolex can stand up to a very active lifestyle of its wearer in a way that few watches can. I for one have put them thru their paces for the past 30 years and I have never had one fail me. With that said I think their pricing in recent years is absurd.

I have the exact same model and the dial is ever so slightly tilted clockwise (in relation to the rehaut engraving). Can such misalignment be corrected by a watchmaker?
any idea why the hands are made of white gold? its just adding weight to them as gold is about twice as heavy as stainless steel. or is it for the sparking look?
I Condone & Endorse! White gold is problematic, I wish they'd use some type of stainless steel for the hands, etc, like the machined spring-bar tubes and captive pins. But no-date Subs are just plain silly looking in these contemporary cases, there was a time and place for that, but not today.
Too late, I just did do this at home, to a Milgauss, a Day-Date & a Sea Dweller, had to remake the helium valve because you can’t realistically buy one.

Makes me want to pull my Deep Sea apart. It can go just a tiny bit further down in my swimming pool than the Submariner can. 😝😎 I know the case back on the Deep Sea is actually high grade titanium .I have owned a late Submariner with the SEL as well. The Submariner just seems so under constructed than the Sea Dweller series. And the Deep Sea is a monster compared to the cool Submariner. I just had it fully serviced and pressure tested. I love the Rolex sport watches. I am absolutely not a Rolex dress watch fan at all. One of my largest purchase when I first started purchasing watches was the Daytona I still own. When I purchased it I was so excited but over time I started to realize I had spent so much for a 18k Daytona. This was back in the late 80's. Now it is every bit worth what I paid and a ton more. But the last time I had it serviced just under 2 years ago. It set me back a staggering amount for the service. I have the very first Rolex I received from my grandfather who was a well respected watchmaker. It is a 6694 Oyster date precision. It has a really weird Rolex stretch type band. Yes it is a actual Rolex band or bracelet. It needs a service as it is running about 21 seconds a day slow. I have recently stepped away from Rolec and I am currently collecting microbrand Suisse automatic chronographs.
The Zenith watch that was taken apart before has.a better finished and more complex movement than this Rolex....yet it's a cheaper watch (at least on the second hand market)..go figure!!! It goes to show you what marketing can do...if done well.

Rolex is the most overrated ever. Its watches are ugly, nothing exclusive, always the same designs year after year. Nothing of innovation. If you compare Rolex versus the other companies like patek, vacheron, breguet, bovet, inclusive versus the most new in the business like mb&f, hyt, greubel, etc ....Rolex is the last one of all. Rolex sucks.

the rolex date change happens in a split second. 2824s have a transition period

2:12 when remove the spring bar I always cover the lugs.
This is why rolex is expensive. Everything is perfect finishing, techniques and positioning of each parts. Amazing.
Compared to what? The Zenith taken apart before on this channel is finished better..Rolex is expensive because of good marketing..
