Slider weights, introduced by Dr. Pulley, has gained popularity over the past few years. The unique shape allows a lower-low gear and a higher-high gear. This equates to better acceleration and top speed. These slider weights are for my Honda Ruckus equipped with the Polini Variator. They fit basically all scooters equipped with a CVT transmission, such as a GY6, Zuma, Typhoon, Aerox, BWS, C3, Vox, Dio, and so on. However, a lot of people do not know how to install them properly. Improper installation may yield excellent acceleration but severe loss of top speed. This video will show you how to orient the sliders correctly into the variator of your scooter equipped with CVT transmission.
Although these are not Dr. Pulley sliders, for $8 shipped these are an excellent choice for experimentation. The combination of a lower than stock weight and the sliding profile of these variator weights allowed me to achieve more top speed and better acceleration.
The Dr. Pulley sliders have a great illustration right on their packaging. This is a fantastic product.
The cross section diagram? Dr. Pulleys are great but far too overpriced now!
im using koso ones, cheap and do the job
Yah koso ones are relatively cheaper but they appear to be made from the same factory as the ones I buy from ebay, but without the brand logo for the cheapest price I could find.
You're awesome. Thanks a million. Just realized my sliders were installed wrong by local shop! Yikes!
+Angel Rivera Yah it's super easy to install them wrong! You would get great acceleration because the drive ramp would sit super close to the variator but the top speed will suck big time because the improper orientation/profile won't let the sliders open up the variator fully.
@@FIFTYmil thanks for that's that going on with mine i install it wrong the acceleration is good but then the top speed I don't like it
@@FIFTYmil I new something was wrong because my bike never ride that way bud i didn't now what bud with your video I found the problem
When you fix them you notice the difference
But I think I'm going to go back to roller
awesome!
Thanks
The one time I want someone to TALK in their video and,... ...
And I didn't.
Those roller weights need to be round or is that me?
This is another design for more ratio
What happens if you install them wrong
They are sliders not rollers
I thought I would try out the sliders you linked below. I have DrP 6g sliders and I have tried a few different weights and yeah I am sick to death as to how expensive they are, about 30 cad. How do they hold up quality wise, the cheep Chinese sliders?
Seems to be holding up just fine *knock on wood. However, having tested both Dr.P and chinese sliders (mind you they are both made from Asia) in performance I honestly can't tell a difference. I have yet to test the difference in longevity with Dr. P, however. Regardless my verdict is Dr.P are not worth the extra money (unless you ride your scooter as your primary transport, then further research should be done).
ok, good to know. I have a 70 kitted BWS and use it a ton. I ordered the ones you have in the vid and I will report in on the durability when I install them. I wish the company would do faster shipping options however. If they turn out to be good then they are a hell of a money saver!
Let me know what you think!
Should call them rockers.
Why?
Please I need advice. My scooter has the cylinder shape of sliders. Some are worn slightly on one side are are very tight when fixed inside the Port. Can this be the reason why my scooter can't climb hills , make more noise on speed, very slow to accelerate.
Most definitely yes it seems like your roller weights have worn out!
My jiajue 50cc broke belt at 940 miles. Noticed some of the weights installed sideways . its much quieter now, pulls out better. But its slower than before . except going downhill its faster and engine doesnt whine like before . why the changes. Dont know the weight of the variators. I ordered scooter new .
Based on your observation, I believe your weights installed sideways weren't working as designed. This results in less weights being utilized by the variator and thus your engine revs higher (therefore louder, but more power during acceleration). Now with your weights properly installed your engine operates at a lower rpm (hence slower and doesn't whine), but can utilize a larger range of ratio (more downhill speed). The newer belt will also contribute slightly to the observed effects as it should be wider than the old one (poorer acceleration, but more top speed).
@@FIFTYmil thanks . i do plan to change . it also seems to be running better after about 40 miles on new belt . ill probably pull cover off and inspect everything in a couple of days .
Good!
Hello,
I have another question related to the sliders. I don't know what they are for but do you think I could 3d print the sliders?.
They are not expensive but they don't sell in my country and I would have to buy them from outside and pay taxes and taxes. So I thought about modeling them and 3d print. Probably I would have to put some weight inside to make them weight the same as the originals.
So, do you think it could work?.
Thanks.
+Pedro Gordinho
It would definitely work but takes more time than it is worth. Honestly, they are not that much different. If you can't get sliders I would stick with roller weights and still be very happy!
Cara mais facil importar e nao sai tao caro, to usando os da KOSO - Taiwan e funciona filé demais... veio sem impostos, you should try...
Hi, I have a polini Variator and I want to get the dr. Pulley sliders, but I'm not sure what gram sliders to get. I'm about 250 lbs. Any idea?
Personally I find the Dr. Pulley's are extremely overpriced right now. I got my slider weights at this affiliate link instead: goo.gl/Y4DwW2
Here's another affiliate link you could try:rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&toolid=11800&pub=5575244884&campid=5337989730&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fitm%2FHP-Polygon-Variator-Roller-16x13-Minarelli-Jog-BWS-1P40QMB-Keeway-Scooter-Parts-%2F281408810111%3Fvar%3D%26hash%3Ditem418545ac7f%3Am%3AmqfL-SQ9GLWTGmqFIwjmkig%26vxp%3Dmtr
Regarding weight of sliders, it depends on a few factors. What rpm is your transmission currently operating at? Do you have a CDI? I am 190lbs and with a tuned engine and CDI I am running 4.9g weights at 9200RPM and the ruckus accelerates much harder with higher top speeds.
what is your motorcycle? what is the topspeed?
Ducati 1098S, 287km/h
Hi,
I have a polini variator on my Zoomer/Ruckus but the slider weights are cylindrical.
Can I by ones like those and install them?.
Thanks.
+Pedro Gordinho
Yes absolutely! Roller weights are what comes with polini variators. Slider weights have a slightly different profile providing a lower gear ratio for better acceleration and top speed.
Thanks.
Kenneth Zacharias Absolutely. Sliders allow a "lower" gearing than the conventional cylindrical ones thus offering better acceleration. It is a good but small improvement and companies such as Dr. Pulley charges way too much for them but I was able to find them for quite cheap and make the modification worthwhile
