OBS: Replay Buffer explained | Similar to Shadowplay

- Want the ability to save the last few minutes with a button press, but want to use your OBS scene or even just have the customizability of it? Well, this simple tutorial takes you through setting up and using this new(ish) setting. It also covers how it works, and what to look out for.

Same thing for me! IDK what happened to Shadowplay after I updated my GeForce NVIDIA Drivers, thing started going haywire with it not being turned on whenever I launch my game(s) or my clips not having my microphone/audio device selected so no audio can be heard in the recording/clip and even my graphics settings in-game being reset when trying to enable ShadowPlay via the hotkey overlay, thing pissed me off so much I had to find another alternative, thank god for OBS!!!
Does anyone have this problem with nividia shadowplay ? So I use the replay button when stream. So obs is running the stream and shadowplay is on! Everytime I hit the hot key. Go look back the clip the it’s a full black screen or video is just plained messed up any fixes ? Might just fully move to obs

I know this video almost a year old but just wanted to say ty. I legit never even dabbled with this feature as way other ppl explained it it would only work while your streaming....had no idea could use it locally till i randomly watched this video so ty :)
Thank you all these guides on UA-cam focus on the streaming function. I'm just looking for a shadow play alternative for instant replay with higher quality capabilities. The best feature from shadow play is that it auto sorts the game title when - that is when it is actually working.

Are you a bot account? This was the exact opposite of brief. He managed to stretch a 45 second video into 8 and a half minutes.
it's only 8 and a half minutes if you don't use the timestamps 💀they're there for a reason, don't complain about video length when you could have saved time by skipping to what you need.

I was taking too long just to find minutes of footage to compile into a video, unfortunitly every clippin service i looked at either wasnt good enough or was clipping the wrong things, so i wanted to do the replay buffer, i was looking to figure out the limit and didnt stop to think the task manager could be my only clue! thanks!

Really good video. OBS replay buffer is a great alternative to AMD ReLive, which makes me trouble with recording microphone and desktop sounds.

Nice video you have here, I didn't need to watch it all but it's so well put together that I ended up seeing to the last second. Pleasant voice, have you considered doing some radio work?
One feature I do miss is Shadowplay's automatically organized clips into folders. If there's a way to do this on OBS, I'd love to see it!
You can change filename of replay files. See `Setting -> Advanced -> Recording -> Filename Formatting`.
For example, with %CCYY/%MM/%DD %hh-%mm-%ss all files placed in 2021/10 folder.
Cons of this method: you can only play with date naming as I can see.
Create a folder in your drive... change the save to:.. boom

Thank you for this video. I have been using the xbox overlay to record the last 30 seconds of gameplay, but I wanted it to be 60 seconds and the recording feature would make my game lag like crazy. After getting obs I was trying to set it up and would start the replay buffer and nothing happened lol. Finally I can get good recordings lol.

I've recently been trying out OBS studio instead of Geforce Experience to record/make clips, mainly because I like listening to loud music while I record but I couldnt do that on Geforce Experience because they didnt have an application audio capture (maybe they did, no idea). OBS lets me play my music while viewers can listen to the app im recording on which is a feature ive been waiting for years, not to mention it has a lot more features than Geforce Experience.

When I check 'Enable Replay Buffer', the field box below doesn't appear. I can't find it anywhere else

Does anyone know why saving two videos with replay buffer includes segments of the first? (basically doubling down on recordings). Makes it extremely hard to edit any replays as they can't just be placed next to each other like on Shadowplay. He shows it at 6:30 doing so but in my case it does not. not sure why. help!
How do I get OBS to always automatically 'Start Replay Buffer', I don't want to click on it each time I start my PC, as I don't need to do this with ShadowPlay either.
Create a hotkey. Set it to f 12 or something
make an obs shortcut and go to properties
in the target after the path" "(space) --startreplaybuffer
then click windowskey+R paste this ( shell:startup )
then move the obs shortcut u just made to that folder

How did you get yours to clear the buffer when saving? Mine will always have the previously recorded saved video before the new clip I want

i have a question when i save my replay buffer on league of legends is for some reason shows a red outline, how do i turn that off? if possible
So i set it to 45 seconds and for some reason it will only record the last 13 seconds or so. Its sort of random. I have no idea why plz help :/
And how do I change the fps of the video that was made with the instant replay. It's at 30 fps but recordings are 60 fps

Regarding '6:36 - Does it save previously saved video?'. This doesn't seem to be the case for me, it will save the last X seconds regardless of overlap for me. Is there a setting or something I'm missing?
I wonder if it's because you use custom naming? I used custom naming and I always had the previous seconds, so if I saved 15 seconds and saved 1 second later, I would have 14 seconds of the previous video. But I used obs studio a year or two ago, maybe it was that you hadn't updated your software?
Now that it's 7 months later, did you find out what caused the problem? I stopped using shadowplay to not have as much wear as need be, since Shadowplay save to file constantly instead of OBS which people seem to claim only uses RAM and that should help with that.
Maybe I'll start using OBS again, I haven't used passive recording for months, but I've only really missed maybe 5 things that I wanted to save with passive recording so it's no biggie.
Bump to this question - curious as mine also seems to record previously recorded footage. Would love an option to have the buffer cache cleared on save.
If i check the Enable Replay Buffer, the Replay buffer box never shows up... nor the Start Replay buffer... why would that be?
Could someone help me? Whenever i take a clip, instead of creating a new video file, it simply replaces my old video file with the new recording. This means that i can only ever have one clip at a time.

when i click the save replay button it just recorded everything since i started the start replay buffer and not actually the 20 second time i specified
My start replay buffer button is missing, any help? I have it ticked on in advanced settings but all i can see is "Start streaming, Start recording, Start Virtual Camera, Studio Mode, Settings, Exit"
It also doesn't show Maximum Replay Time option after I tick it on its just there with a tick on it and nothing really happens
It used to work fine a few days ago but then the start replay buffer button just disappeared and in the settings the maximum replay time disappeared as well despite the box being checked on

I have a terrible problem cant find an answer im searching. All my reply buffer settings are find manually click button it works. But with hot key when im on GameLoop game screen hotkey dont work i have to move out of game screen click outside than hotkey will work that is terrible. my OBS is saved on D drive not on C drive is it because of this ? or any thing else

is there a way to record only the gameplay? so if im streaming i have my stream overlay and then when i do the buffer save it will only record my game capture and not my stream overlay?
Click game capture, choose capture specific window and then u can choose which window to record
@@CurryMuncherM Dont see anything in there that allows me to record only the gameplay and not the overlay. Been using game capture for ages. the issue is streaming an overlay and all but recording only gameplay like how showplay (instant replay whatever its called on nvidia)
"There is not sufficient disk space to continue recording." when i hit the Start Replay Buffer. I run it in administrator and allow the game enough ram and have half tera left on disk space. Please help me as soon as possible. Thanks.

I literally cannot believe years and years later shadowplay still doesn't allow for a constant bitrate like how AMD Radeon Relive has had for years....I switched to OBS Studio using replay buffer, it's basically the same thing, can setup the exact settings you want the video to be and where to save it and hotkeys, and how long you want the video to be in seconds. I don't feel like bothering taking the extra time reencoding stuff in other programs....I tried in shocut to "fix" the shadowplay video using their suggested method because apparently video editors don't like variable bitrates and the end became garbled when a friend was talking....meanwhile it was perfectly fine in OBS studio using replay buffer. For all the praise and hype nvidia gets by certain pc fanboys, this is a major major major con to using their software.

Replay buffer takes so long to save clips compared to shadowplay... my second gpu has been running on 100% for about 5 mins now for a 3 min clip

Shadowplay uses hard disk space? I'm asking because on AMD software you can change to RAM, and that's what I do to keep my NVMe from using cicles with no need. Everyday I find a new thing I had better when using AMD GPUs because NVIDIA software is lacking a lot

Just started using OBS Replay Buffer.
Shadowplay lost me around 10-20 clips that I really wanted to keep. Half the fucking clips weren't being saved!! Fuck Nvidia Geforce Experience
