I believe MK and Nod actually had a connection based on their shared loss of a parental figure that they had been closest to. MK had been far closer to her mom than her dad at the time they're introduced in the film. She was originally only attempting to connect with her dad again as a last request from her mom that is implied by some of her solo dialogue. Which implies that she likely wouldn't have bothered trying to reconnect with him if not for that request, suggesting that if she did miss her dad at all she didn't miss him enough to try reconnecting solely of her own volition. This idea is easily reinforced by the talk she had with her dad as she was planning to leave telling him she was almost old enough to live on her own anyway. Before she explicitly told them the identity of her father, the only mention she made was when she was regaining consciousness after getting KOed by a branch. She also didn't immediately tell them he was her dad when they started making fun of him, she actually seemed to be avoiding admitting that fact suggesting she's sorta ashamed of him and that their related. So it makes more sense for them to connect over their shared grief of a deceased parent they were close to, and it's far easier to relate to that kind of grief when you've experienced it yourself. While it can be similar, it's not actually the same as grieving an estrangement from someone who's still living since there's still the chance of reconnecting and having them back in your life. The dead can't come back to be part of your life again, at least not in the same way as before. MK and Nod's connection wasn't based on both missing their fathers, it was actually their shared grief of having a close loved one die.
I really wish we could have seen more of Tara and Ronin's relationship. They had such good chemistry for what little we saw. I would love a movie seeing how she became queen because it looks like becoming queen is a really big deal and how it changed their relationship or started it. I wanted to see more of the leafman world. And i dont care what the critics said Beyonce did a great job. She sounded like ahe was enjoying herself voicing the character.
Exactly, I hoped we could've seen an epiloque of Tara becoming a queen and the relationship between her and Ronin... but then again, the audience would've gotten too attached to Tara and her relationship for her to die later. At least I was really sad when she died... Off topic but I totally understand why everyone simped over Ronin. They worked REALLY well on his character. I didn't like him at first but as the movie went on, his character showed me that this is the prototype of a man I would go for to get married to even. He's literally perfect: brave, loyal, responsible, fine, good fighter, humble, has a pure respectful soul and a sexy brain (smart) and can also be hilarious! Name a more perfect man...
I love how this movie was very mature for an animated film from the early 2010's. As a kid it always felt like a kids movie. However, now that I'm more mature it feels like a movie meant for a more mature audience, which is honestly something I can say for a lot of the movies I watched as a kid but Epic is one of the better examples.
I really enjoyed this movie. I wished they had fleshed out the relationship between M.K. and Nod but I found the ending to be cute. It could have been better but it was still a great movie in my opinion
This movie is one of my favorites because of its use of katanas. The technique is on point! If you watch closely you will notice that Ronin has a habit of placing his thumb over the hand guard of the sword. This is done to hold the sword in its sheath, and prevent an opponent from drawing the weapon on its master. This little detail contributes strongly to Ronin's character as a soldier, and makes him very relatable to me as I am a martial artist myself. It gose to show just how much thought was put into this movie. Somewhere down the line someone did their research, and I love it!😆
When I first saw this film in cinemas I thought MK was going to end up being the queen so that her and the guy could end up together and that's why the queen made her small so it was a nice suprise that she didn't. I love this film so much I had a few McDonald's toys for it too
I remember seeing a theory for Epic once upon a time that was that reason MK was shrunk was so that in case the pod bloomed in darkness, she would become queen of rot. IDK if it's what the writers were going for but I think it's a fun theory.
This movie did make me cry at the end out of nowhere. When everything's resolved, villain defeated, MK human sized again, MK's dad says about his late wife "I always hoped if I, uh...if I proved it to her...she'd, uh...you know." and he starts to cry. The movie gives you the impression that he and his wife mutually grew apart due to different interests, but it turns out that this man doubled down on proving his work right in hopes that he and his wife could get back together, but he never got the chance. 😭😭😭
The power of subtle dialogue in this movie was amazing. I wish more children movies would take up this tactic instead of spelling everything out. Young kids brains are wired to connect little things like that together. Not only only does it not feel like it’s being shoved down your throat, but it makes little kids feel proud of themselves for being able to put small things together and spiked there interest. I Miss movies like epic
Please watch Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’hoole. Its so good and so underrated it was really ahead of its time in terms of animation and personally i really enjoy the story telling as well
I loved Epic so much when I watched it, it felt unusually good for something that people didn't seem to care about? I never found a fandom of it despite really loving it.
SAME 😭 but I was always on the lookout before in 2014 for Epic fanfics ;---; I think it came to the point where I wrote a oneshot in Wattpad lol But overall I wished it was a bit more appreciated fandom-wise because I feel there's a lot of lore that could be imagined out of it 😭
I absolutely loved this movie when I was younger and recently came across it again when looking for character ideas! I can’t believe how underrated it is
Epic and The Book Of Life where the only things downloaded on my dads Ipad when I was a kid Those 2 movies shaped my childhood i have special connection to it i love them
I love this movie! And I really can agree with you with how Nod's and MK's relationship is a biiiittt "meh" for me. I mean it's good but it needs more of that special somethin somethin. Ronin and Tara on the other hand makes me grin every time (except the sad parts). I also really like how in the end, Ronin gets to see her one last time. It really feels like their character arc is neatly wrapped up in a bow
I felt so bad for mandrake when he lost his son, i know he was a bag guy. But you can't help but feel sorry for him because he literally loved his family.
11:12 I thought you were going to mention Ronin's right hand man who I don't think ever gets a name the guy with the red hair, he's always caught my eye and he only has like 5 scenes
I remember I used to watch this so much as a kid, I found it funny and loved it’s story. I didn’t notice it’s flaws back then but I always thought to myself “why didn’t people talk about this more??”, it was such a fun movie to watch and I might just rewatch it again someday :)
When I was small, I was literally hated the main couple being all lovey dovey but this movie was the only exception. Also I had a crush on the Previous Queen, she's so elegant and badass at the same time AHHHH
I vaguely remembered watching this movie when I was maybe ten years old, I didn't expect to come across it again, but I'm happy that I did! I mostly remember Tara, because since my childhood she's been a great source of inspiration for one of my own fictional characters
i feel like the scene where they were bonding, she was more referring to her mom whom she was super close to. the parents divorced when she was really young based on how her room looks and most likely never had visits with the dad, again based on the room never being updated. so was more bonding over grief and loss.
I watched this movie at about the same period I watched Arthur and the invisibles so it was really hard to forget and for good reason It's such a great movie and I'm so glad to see it getting the recognition it deserves 🤧
Mk and Nod's romance was the definitely the weak link of the movie's plot. I really liked how Mk and her dad's relationship developed though. Was easily the best part.
I watched this in theaters when it first came out with my sister and friends and I remember not really liking it. The walk home we were just like “oh yeah it was pretty good, I mean that ‘stupid says what’ joke was funny. Oh yeah that was hilarious” and that was the highlight of our viewing experience. After this tho, I think I might rewatch it soon
I had just gotten home from college and my sister and I were super excited to watch this together in theaters! Loved it and I think my parents still have the DVD
God, I had forgotten this movie! I remember watching it years ago, and really enjoying it, the jokes were funny, the visuals were nice, ad I like the characters. Also I related to the main character, because I also lost my mother and had a rocky relationship with my father(not in the same way as in the movie but ya know similar). This review makes me wanna rewatch it again
I love watching all these underrated movies and hearing someone else's thoughts on it. Have you reviewed Smallfoot? It's not as obscure, but it might be something fun to watch if it's something you'd be into :) There's also this less-known one called Astro Boy and I really enjoyed it when I was younger. Love your videos!
Omg omg finally!!! I LOVED THIS FILM as a kid. I’ve been wanting a second film so badly for years. Epic and Rise of the Guardians both got snubbed sequels and I’ll never forgive that!!!
It's good to look back at movies out of the context of the year and other movies it was released by. I keep coming back to this movie because of its fascinating world and good plot.
I really liked this movie when it came out, it really felt like the movie didn't treat the viewer like a f*cking idiot, even children, they talked about some heavy stuff and handled it so well, in how they presented it, tackled it and ultimately resolved them, I honestly believe a part two is due, but at the same time it didn't seem like the saga type of concept, one great movie, one great story, the end, actually it might be for the best, sequels tend to get dunked on for some reason. Pd, the intro of every video reminds of this TikTok with the guy dissing people that can't roll their Rs
I remember Epic, but never fully. I remember for the time it was pretty amazing. I loved the flower people and the armor design. I wish there was more. Also cmon the Queen's dress was beautiful as hecc and that's what hooked me originally weirdly enough. The design and the characters what got me off the back
This rlly came out in 2013?! I remember when this released when I was 9! Now I feel old LOL but I remember loving the vibes and scenery of this movie, esp the scenes with Queen Tara and the pod ceremony (if that was what out was called)
Thanks so much for this AWESOME review! I love the fact that you do these movies which aren't 'mainstream' because it's literally walking down childhood lane for me LOL. I adored Epic and when I watched it again for the first time in a decade I fell in love all over again! You really hit all the points that I saw and loved in the movie; it transported me into a different world with the amazing world building most Films don't seem to execute as well as this. I thought the same thing about the Queen - I always felt that spark from her which I hadn't registered either until today, and only found out it was Beyonce but didn't really mean anything until I saw that mini-interview clip with her in it and the personalised inspiration which then totally fit. I remember being disappointed as a kid about who became queen at the end, but upon reflection I agree now! Also, the half-baked romance was SO disappointing, and had forgotten the WIP Flyn Rider likeliness, but less well done. I loved the ideas for the re-make ect because I would have said the same! I felt like the deer-ride could have been extended to develop too. My other thing was that I loved the villains, but definitely wanted some extra backstory on him (LOL I like my villains). Though a past romance between the antagonist and the queen would have been cliche and too much, I feel like if he had even more of a personal vendetta against her as well, it would have brought out the opposition a bit more. (Of course I'm aware in reality they needed to focus the screen time on the protagonists XD) I think that was the only thing it was lacking other than the relationship, but man, I totally stanned over Ronan and the Queen ... I feel like that is something that films don't focus on enough these days! Anything but the 'central' romance isn't important (and therefore the cast of the supporting characters are weaker because of it). Anyway, thanks for creating these reviews! I really enjoy seeing them for the films I've watched XD!
Epic was one of my childhood favourites, loved it so much. Yes it has its flaws and isn’t as rememberable as I wish it was but that remembrance thing just allows me to rewatch it multiple times and feel like it’s new in a way.
OH MY GOD I LOE THIS MOVIE! it is so underated! and me and my family have so many inside jokes based around this movie! so glad you did this vidio, people really need to see this movie.
Yay!!! I was waiting for this review!! Epic is one of my fav movie ever and it's so underrated for no reason at all! Glad ya enjoy the movie! Can't wait for the next review!
God, I remember Epic. A fun fantasy romp through a world of mysticism and wonder. Really solid all around, and the idea 💡 of a tiny civilization is wholly unique.
I really love that someone is finally talking about my favorite movie! I still remember when it came out the trailers for it had Icona Pop's I love it and it was like THE song for 2012. Mannnn this is great aaaa thank you for making this! This movie is criminally underrated and it actually has an A-lister cast if I remember correctly? I remember that the queen is Beyonce hehe I remember that much about the voice cast. But they did a spectacular job with the animation and voice acting and the story was so different than anything else, the closest thing I could maybe compare it to being maybe Thumbelina? But the lore and everything is totally different and that's why I love it so much.
This is one of my favourite movies ever! It took me like 4 years to find it since I didn’t remember most of it and all i saw was like the first half at school but when i found the movie again it was so worth ittt
my family saw this in theaters for I think my birthday. We might have seen it one or two times since, but my siblings and I still quote Mub and Grub from time to time, probably gonna look for it to watch again later
omg finally someone who acknowledges this god dam beautiful animated GEM of my childhood it's a disgrace that not many people know of this amazing film
19:00 Ok, but can we appreciate how ADORABLE our fav UA-camr is here!? This is my first time seeing her face since I don't have Instagram so i only just now found out how cute you are! I love your hair btw
I forgot about this movie over time. We have the dvd and I watched it over and over again as a kid. Its a cool movie, and kinda old ig. Awsome its being recognized
If you haven’t yet please, PLEASE do one of these on “Meet the Robinsons” that movie was my child hood and it’s all kinds of strange and I love it, it’s brilliant.
my little brother was obsessed with this movie we rented the dvd and he watched it back-to-back repeating for 3 days straight. would not leave the television.
I haven't watched this since I was a little child and I agree it was so underated and I loved it years ago and will never forget it. I'm glad some people in know this movie! Nostalgia I tell you it's amazing
I remember getting this movie as a birthday gift as a kid and I oddly liked it, though mainly, I just like the parts with the snails, they were definitely my favorite characters.
I actually don't care for this movie that much, but I can see why all of you appreciated it. It is nice to see other creators have different opinions for a movie, but they all have great points on why they like/dislike it.
Thank you for showing this movie some love i also thought this movie was so underrated that not many people saw and thx for showing this movie some love

Hands down one of my FAVORITE movies to ever exist. IT DESERVED BETTER.
YASSS!! this is actually my favorite movie
Mine too
1000% AGREE, IT WAS ONE OF MY BIGGEST HYPERFIXATIONS AS A KID
@@LynnPhrog OMG SAME I WOULD ALWAYS ASK TO WATCH IT MY FAMILY LOW-KEY GOT ANNOYED
IT DOES DESERVE BETTER!!!!!!

Blue Sky was more into animated comedies like Ice Age or Rio, but here? We got Don Bluth levels of dark and gritty!
I really enjoyed this movie. I wished they had fleshed out the relationship between M.K. and Nod but I found the ending to be cute. It could have been better but it was still a great movie in my opinion
Same
This movie is one of my favorites because of its use of katanas. The technique is on point! I never knew that! That's really cool! Thanks for sharing! Now I gotta watch it again to admire that aspect! 🤩
Strange Magic and Epic were not made by the same studio. Epic was made by Blue Sky and Strange Magic was done by ILM.
Oh gosh oh yeah!! My bad on that part! Thank you for the correction! I'll be careful next time!
When everything's resolved, villain defeated, MK human sized again, MK's dad says about his late wife "I always hoped

The power of subtle dialogue in this movie was amazing. I wish more children movies would take up this tactic instead of spelling everything out. It's a shame! This would've had a great fandom! 😭💕

But overall I wished it was a bit more appreciated fandom-wise because I feel there's a lot of lore that could be imagined out of it 😭
Adaptations of William Joyce books(Robots, Rise of the Guardians, Meet the Robinsons)are always pretty neat to me.
I absolutely loved this movie when I was younger and recently came across it again when looking for character ideas! I can’t believe how underrated it is

I mean you can wear skirts and dresses and still be tomboy. I think "tomboy" has many categories
I love this movie! And I really can agree with you with how Nod's and MK's relationship is a biiiittt "meh" for me. I mean it's good but it needs more of that special somethin somethin. i feel like the scene where they were bonding, she was more referring to her mom whom she was super close to. the parents divorced when she was really young based on how her room looks and most likely never had visits with the dad, again based on the room never being updated.

OH MY GOD WHY DIDN'T I REMEMBER THE ANIMATION BEING THIS FREAKING GOOD WHEN I WATCHED THE MOVIE
Ronin...a Japanese word for a rogue or "master"-less samurai. Not so subtle foreshadowing if you know the meaning of the word.
Awwww 🥺 dang thats actually really witty of them and also sad
Yay!!! I was waiting for this review!! Epic is one of my fav movie ever and it's so underrated for no reason at all! Glad ya enjoy the movie! Can't wait for the next review!
Awww!! Thank you for your patience and I'm happy to hear you liked the video!! Thanks for watching! 😭💕
God, I remember Epic. A fun fantasy romp through a world of mysticism and wonder. Really solid all around, and the idea 💡 of a tiny civilization is wholly unique.
I LOVED this movie as a kid. It’s a shame it didn’t get the sequel it deserved
You just reminded me of this movie, I love it
It came out when I was 6 and I loved it for so long but it's so underrated that I forget a lot

I actually don't care for this movie that much, but I can see why all of you appreciated it. It is nice to see other creators have different opinions for a movie, but they all have great points on why they like/dislike it.
