hi friends, a quick note! When I placed my order, some of the product shots on the Ellis Faas website were different than what you'll see if you go to the website today. Most notably, the swatches of the CONCEALER and the BLUSH looked different on the old site-much lighter in color. The new pictures are truer to color, which is great! But this is why talked extensively in the video about how much darker the blush and concealer are in person even though they really don't look that much darker than the pictures. When I'm swatching the concealer in this video, the small picture in the upper right-hand corner of the screen is the OLD product shot. The swatches on the left are from the new website, and you can see that the concealer still looks a bit darker in person than it does in the pictures, but the difference is way less dramatic. Thank you for watching!!!!

If they were to come out with lighter shades, do you think that you would try it?

    • @setarehsh3749
      @setarehsh3749 2 роки тому +4

I sometimes get a darker concealer or foundation for mixing (but I'm a light medium skin tone) but I also have a favorite much darker concealer that I use when I have a lot of acne to cover on my cheeks as a liquid bronzer(especially since sometimes blushes or other bronzers almost sheer out my foundation the way I like to use them) - I use a tiny tiny amount but it covers my acne and their scars. I thought I'd suggest you try it that way once - you could put it on the back of your hand or on a palette first to try to keep it clean if you don't like it so you can give it away .. but yeah, have a great day!
edit- looking at their website, it's gorgeous but also their holders look incredible, it always gets me when a brand has cool functional packaging especially when it's refillable but also they have really functional and pretty "holders" / organizers. I could definitely see myself trying the brand and if I like it when I get more of it also getting the holders to put on my vanity but also the metal holder looks amazing for throwing in your purse.. I love the idea and design definitely intriguing.

Fwiw I think the lightest foundation may be lighter than the lightest concealer. I wear the lightest foundation and I’m extremely fair olive - but I’ve never found a concealer shade from them I can use.

There’s no excuse for website imagery to be way off from what a consumer purchases (my background is in website user experience). I’m glad that they addressed the performance issues of the website + switched up the visuals for a more actual representation. I’m intrigued by the lip products and will check them out soon.

Can I just say that your aesthetic today is hitting all my buttons? The natural, glowy blush, the lip color, the shiny, grungy eyeshadow, the stacks of gold earrings and rings and the chartreuse velvet headband (a less fancy version of which I own and wear, as that exact shade of chartreuse is my favorite color and velvet is so enjoyably indulgent) are all regular players in my own existence and I LIVE for them all on you! You look spectacular!

I concur her makeup looks so pretty today! And that green is Devine (chartreuse?) . Yay I learned a new color word! I’m unfortunately blonde and fairish medium skin color with blue eyes. So that lip color and green probably wouldn’t look good on me :( it’s always made me so mad since I love the color but it don’t look good on me . I longed to wear purple and greed shadows but sadly NO….not since 2003 anyways when any eye shadow color worked haha.

I hate how much this is dating my UA-cam obsession but, I remember everyone talking about Ellis Faas about 10 years ago 😖. I think the cost, at that time, and her disinterest in trendy releases is what has kept her off the YT radar.

I love the Ellis Faas brand! Lisa Eldridge did a video ages ago reviewing their products. SpaceNK was one of the originally retailers to carry the line in the States. I remember loving the eye wands as it was really the best for a Smokey brownish, griegish eye. I had the pleasure of meeting Ellis as well. She was an incredible light! So kind and friendly. Ellis loved makeup and you feel that when you use anything from the line.

That rusty orange is so beautiful and unusual. I feel like there's a real mustard undertone in it that makes it so unique. I have found orange lipstick irresistible my entire life (I used to apply Revlon Moondrops Orange Flip from my Nana as a child every chance I got) and I am agog. The milky lip formula is very appealing as well.
I'll admit I feel like the sameness of packaging doesn't bother me too much (MAC bullets all look identical when stored, as do ALL bullet lipsticks really) so it's fine. Having these upside down in a pencil cup seems easy.
My burning question is have you tried the lip formula on your cheeks?!

The blushes from Ellis Faas is appealing to me too.

In Australia at least, the Ellis Faas foundation is a beloved product! Beautiful texture and works super nicely on more mature skin for a lovely natural skin-like finish.
It has been told to me that the makeup artists from one of the major tv networks in Aus uses this foundation on their female news anchors.
Also the shade S103.5L, now named S13CY was a shade later developed due to feedback from the Australian market.

I have the red lipstick and I love wearing it sheered out, the fact its the colour of blood was intriguing to me because i have strong yellow undertones and almost all reds turn pink on me. I feel like you can really tell when you get it that it is different to other reds, it feels like you can't go wrong with it. If you're someone who doesn't struggle to find flattering reds its probably not as worth it though.
Since the mily lips is a little sheer I wonder if you put the salt NY white lip on as a base and then the milky lips over the top whether it would create the colour you were expecting?

These qualities are why I have been maybe a little obsessed with Rituel de Fille lately. I'm not very good with getting the eye soots even on both eyes, but the Color Nectar Pigment Balms and a lot of their lip products I'm able to use on any part of my face and it's just easy to sheer out or build up. The formulas are forgiving enough that I can slap some color on my face when I'm having a Meniere's attack and not have it look like I applied it on a carnival ride. If only I can find a mascara so safe and easy, I'd be set lol.

This was a really thorough review! I'm glad to see this brand is still around. I believe there was a relaunch of sorts right around 2021/2022, which would have been after she (Ellis Faas) died in 2020. But those of us who are older will remember this brand from the early 2010s. Lisa Eldridge reviewed it. The original packaging was meant to clip together like giant sexy bullets on an ammo belt (and you can still buy the clips). At the time, this was seen as almost glamorizing and sexualizing violence (especially given her affinity for blood and bruise colors) and her brand was likely impacted by this response in a negative way and larger stores like Sephora stopped carrying her products after a time. I really enjoyed some of her products and some of her formulas were really high quality. She struck me as being an artist interested in texture and color.

I have used Ellis Faas products before after seeing one of Wayne Goss’s "best foundation or concealer" videos where her’s was mentioned. To this day I have not found a more beautiful red than her Ellis Blood Red. I got it in all 3 of her textures, with Creamy Lips being my favorite followed by Milky Lips then Glazed Lips. If you had her Creamy Lips formula then you could use a coat of that on the lips and just over it in a clear gloss to get a similar effect to the other 2 formulas. I also loved her cream eyeshadows because they were very easy to blend out and stayed all day. My only gripe about her products was the packaging, especially the ones where you twist the bottom and the product was supposed to come out from a small brush at the top. It would be incredibly hard to get any product out if you don’t regularly use it, and 2 products came not working because they dried out during transit. Another issue is that if your hands are slick with moisturizer or a balm then you cannot actually open any of the products because they are so smooth and bullet shaped, so your hands just keep slipping off since you can’t get a grip on it. Overall, I think she is switching her products to the wand style applicator which will address the main complaint I had, but her products are really great if you want something user friendly that actually has beautiful results. I wish more people knew about her line, it is so unique compared to most of what’s on todays market.

YES! I feel the EXACT SAME WAY re: testing complexion products! If the undertone (especially) is wrong, there’s NO WAY I can give any type of accurate opinion about the appearance or wear. I can get away w/the shade being SLIGHTLY off but the undertone MUST be correct, otherwise I won’t bother.

  • @yaimiana

The lip swatches on the website are most probably edited to appear in perspective to medium skintones. If you ever watch swatch videos of the same product on different skintones, the appearance changes dramatically. I would almost say as a rule, if you have fair skin you should always assume product will be darker in person because of product marketing. Complexion products on the lightest and darkest range will almost always be edited to appear as the extremes of that range. Often the color editing will also mute the undertone to appeal to a wider range. I wish companies would just be honest with true to color swatches on a spectrum of skintones. I guess its a bit like food photography.

You def got my attention as well, w/ this. WOW. This is a brand I'd really like to try one day. Thanks for, as always, such in depth commentary. If you mean "frisson" though, that is spelled w/o a t altogether, so obviously none should be pronounced. It literally means "chill". But the meaning can be "hint", too. // Greetings, French girl

Great video Hannah! I first discovered Ellis Faas last year whilst watching another fab UA-camr called Andreea Ali (Ali Andreea) . She was doing a makeup look and used a few of the eye products which I thought looked so unique and intriguing. I immediately went searching to learn more about the brand. I have several of Ellis Faas products and can recommend her eye colours which are so beautiful and flattering on the eyes. I made a mistake with the complexion products too, ordering the skin veil in light medium, which turned out a bit dark for me but I make it work by sheering it out and using a lighter setting powder. I ended up getting the cylindrical makeup tube to house the components in as I got most of these on sale! :) I enjoy using them as they are so easy to work with, the application is quick, and the results are always stunning for minimal effort! I hope you continue to enjoy your lip products. LOVE your videos!

I was obsessed with Lights E305, a deep blood red with green reflect that was inspired by a bruise. I was young and felt so edgy 😅 Also i remember being impressed by the skin veil- At the time like i don't remember light coverage foundation even being a thing. I couldn't really afford it so i moved along from the brand (and i also remember being constantly frustrated by the slippery bullets 😂)
But i just remembered this brand fondly today and wanted to revisit. I was so happy to see a review from you!! Sad to hear Ellis passed. I admired her vision and related to it in a way i haven't felt "spoken to" in a while.

Hi Hannah! Did you see that one of the Ellis Faas eyeshadow shades is named Old Pink? It made me think of you, and your dream shadow shade named Old Gum. Watching this video inspired me to do a try-on of all of my lip products, along with a bit of a declutter. I did that instead of giving in to the impulse to place an Ellis Faas order for lip products that I don't need. Thanks for helping me, through your videos over the past few years, to get to the point where I can now easily make those kinds of choices.

Right, not to be a complete pedant, but isn’t it the french word ‘frisson’ that you mean (so no t). Frisson means a thrill, something that sends shivers down your spine. It is pronounced in English like it would be in french, so an approximation of your first pronouciation. Frissant means that something is refreshing, in a sort of cold drink, or a refreshing shower kind of way, not refreshing in a cultural way. Frissant is pronounced without the tea. Both words have slightly different pronouciations in french, but sounds the same when they are used in the english language (ie by native english speakers). Anyways, thank you for coming to my TED talk. Also, enjoyed the reviews, the lip products do intrigue me, especially Ellis red.

I'm glad that her absolutely gorgeous products are available again, with new improved packaging for the eyeshadows. My favorite eye shadow is Creamy Eyes E 127 Ginger Freckle. Maybe nobody talks about them now, because the old click pens were problematic in use. After a while the brush was clogged. Even when you were cleaning the brush after each use! It was a waste of time and product. I mentioned this brand a long time ago in one of your videos.I believed that you will liked their sophisticated products.

I’ve watched the whole video now. I think you should definitely get some of the eye products to try. I used them ages ago and thought they were fantastic, but they used to come in that brush applicator like the milky lip and would have a similar problem of not flowing evenly. It might be an issue of texture rather than a problem with your component. Also, the brush tips would get kind of… smelly and need to be washed. I have heard the doe foot are so much better for the eye products. The colors and staying power were lovely 🥰 Thank you for all the info about the lip and cheek colors. It is super helpful

Oh I kind of remember when this dropped on Beautylish. I think Wayne Goss reviewed the foundation waaaaaay back. I really appreciate what you said about lip gloss always making you aware that you are wearing lipgloss. It's one of the reasons I rarely wear it. I find it distracting. It's a bummer that complexion products don't work for you. I'm sad that all of the Touche Eclat knock offs that were in the drugstore have been discontinued. I'm a pretty easy to match neutral light medium and I might give it a go with the Ellis Faas version. If I have any complaint about Wayne Goss makeup its that the packaging is so repetitive that you get confused. The eyeshadow and the cheek palettes are exactly the same on the outside. The lipsticks are all identical but they have the name in tiny writing. I think it's just because both Ellis Faas and Wayne Goss are tiny brands and variations in packaging are prohibitively expensive.

Deeply enjoyed this video! I've been wearing Ellis Faas since they launched about 9+ years ago (Lisa Eldridge did an early review of the brand when it first launched). To me, her standout product is the Skin Veil foundation. Her lightest shade, S101, is a spot on exact match for my pale neutral skin (which is about 1/4 to 1/2 shade darker than yours - so I don't think that shade would be as perfect a match for you as it is for me). It is like an upgraded Armani Luminous Silk. Long-wearing, radiant, so natural and glowy, just GORGEOUS. I've gone through about 5 bottles over the years and though I often venture out, I always return with great relief to my Ellis Faas Skin Veil. But I didn't like it in the bullet dispenser - always get the bottle. I had many of her eye light-products and 2 lip products, and TBH, I am just not a fan of the packaging (as aesthetic and gorgeous as it is). Early on, there were mechanical issues and too much or not enough product would come out. I found it SO frustrating to use; and while I loved the formula, I stopped using the eye and lip products due to clogged or clumsy packaging.
I've received EF emails since the beginning, and her brother Theis wrote a loving (albeit devastating) and heartfelt tribute when Ellis passed. I think a lot of people were struck with grief at her sudden passing. She was such a visionary; and the brand gave impeccable, gorgeous service to customers. Theis is running the business now, applying the same discerning, artistic eye that his sister was known for. They're being careful but also taking bold steps to align with talented guest artists to execute her avant-garde makeup vision.

I think what most brands don’t know how to create are complexion products for the TRUELY cool under-toned people. I’d say I’m as cool-pink as it gets but what makes finding a match for me is that I’m not porcelain-fair or light. I’m a med-light to medium in winter & a medium to medium deep in summer. Try finding a truly cool undertone in the medium-tan/medium-deep shade range 😩. Just because I get super tan, doesn’t mean my undertone changed. It doesn’t. Usually as shades deepen, most brands create shade descriptions like, “having cool peach undertones” or what they’re labeling as cool isn’t cool at all on someone like me. For the record, peach is not cool, peach is peach & is generally still a warmer undertone. Patrick Starr, Cover FX, & Maybelline are just a few examples of brands that use peach as their cool shade/undertone options & it’s so frustrating. Additionally, if brands are testing a shade that’s labeled as having “cool” or even a “cool peach” undertone & the person testing it isn’t a true cool; if they’re only slightly cool or neutral in undertone, OF COURSE this “cool peach” is going to appear too peachy pink on their skin & poof! Now that brand has found/created their “cool” shade option! It’s like using a neutral shade on a person with a warm-yellow undertone. It’s going to look too pinkish on them! I come across this issue with almost all brands. I feel if brands want to get it right & accommodate people like me, they need to take a page out of CoverGirl’s playbook. If you look at 2 of their foundation lines, you can from the shelf that they offer some great options in cool. It’s the only 2 lines that offer me an absolutely perfect shade match no matter how pale or tan I am. 1st is the original TruBlend line (not the newer matte version of TruBlend) & the 2nd is the original CoverGirl Clean makeup. Both of those have a massive amount of options in cool shades. If the undertone is right, my foundation will always look great. I’ve been using the TruBlend since it 1st launched - idk 10-ish yrs ago, give/take? It’s sad how I’m basically forced to wear these 2 lines bcz most other brands don’t offer shades that are this cool. I shouldn’t have to “make it work” at this stage in the makeup industry. Brands need to be creating & testing their cool shades on people who actually have cool undertones.
