    I want to also point out that when Toichiro tries to fight mob in the final arc he ultimately decides to retreat with his son. He decided that it was okay to run away which is exactly what Reigen told Mob in their first encounter with Claw, further cementing Reigen’s lessons as the thematic back bone of this incredible series.

    • @KBWanime
      @KBWanime  Рік тому +185

      That's a great point and another spot where Mob Psycho is an anti-power fantasy where running away is sometimes a better option than stubbornly forcing yourself into bad and risky situations.

      @@KBWanimei was thinking that if Toichiro decided to sacrifice himself to save mob (im imagining he would likely die in the process or be in critical condition). It would not only cause the situation to not change, but also worsen. Him stopping mob would just be delaying the inevitable, since it doesnt stop the root problem of mob and shigeo denying each other. But it could also hurt his son mentally, and possibly make his son (cant remember his name so im calling him son) afraid or even subconsciously hate mob. So in my opinion, running away was ONE of the best option.

    • @KBWanime
      @KBWanime  Рік тому +45

      I think that's true. It's been shown how insanely powerful Mob is compared to everyone else. Toichiro would probably just die instantly. It's also kind of commenting on the redemption trope where so many characters sacrifice themselves for their redemption, but that's not really redeeming anything and he has to live for his son.

    I freaking love how from the perspective of some characters, Reigen is a master psychic that dealt with the entire scar division by himself (season 1 finale), defeated the most powerful warping psychic (season 2 finale), and could stop Mob when he went nuclear (season 3 finale)
    If the show wasn't called Mob Psycho, Reigen could perfectly be the main character in a comedy show about a con-man psychic getting involved in real pshychic organization shenanigans, and everyone freaking falls for it

    I read a comment on Reigen's running. It stated that in Japan, pulling your shoes off indicates suicidal intentions. It showed that Reigen was willing to die to get through to Mob. That's how good of a person Reigen really is at his core; the best anyone should aim to be really.

      I think it also showed that reigen absolved mob of intent if he had died. Not only does it show how determined reigen was, but him taking off his shoes for what could have been a final act showed that mob wasn't the one to kill him- he did that to himself.

      My favourite part of MOB Psycho 100 is probably the lack of fight scenes, weirdly enough. Whenever there's supposed to be an actual fight, they just skip to whoever won because Shonen normally puts such a big emphasis on big fights, even though it's obvious who's going to win and how they're going to do it. Maybe that was the inspiration for One Punch Man.

  • @QilinsReverseScale
    @QilinsReverseScale 3 місяці тому +72

    What I love about the Shigeo-Reigen dynamic is basically that they are the antithesis to Rick and Morty dynamic. The latter has this sort of toxic-codependence with each other that they would never want to admit to one another; while Reigen despite his con-man tendencies, actually teaches Mob how to be a better person. Reigen takes advantage of Mob's powers, that much is certain, but he genuinely cares about the kid like his own friend or nephew. It's a good subversion of the parasitic trope in fiction and the fact that the show ends with Reigen admitting to Mob that he was a conman to which mob already knew is what makes this series so powerful to me. Reigen teaches Mob how to be a good person by being the idealized version of himself, in turn, Reigen seeks to be more like his idealized self and improves himself. He makes mistakes here and there but he's always there to pick himself and the others around him back up. That's why to me Reigen, despite his absurd con man persona, is actually a really admirable person - not perfect, but that makes him even more admirable

  • @kiah9085

    I absolutely agree. I’ve said it and I’ll keep saying it that’s the great thing about Reigen is that a lot of people feel like they’re bad at being a person but with the way that Reigen fails and how he still so charismatic anyway it tells you it’s OK to be bad at being a person because he doesn’t tell you to be good at being a person he said to be a good person that is all, kindness is the key to your charm. It’s a nice thought that you don’t have to succeed at being, you just have to be kind.

    A part of Reigen's arc in season 2 that you didn't mention is that Reigen basically has no one else in his life other than Mob, and it seems like he didn't realize it because of how busy he usually is. He'd gotten used to having someone to talk to, and with Mob gone he was painfully lonely.

      @@KBWanime It's unbelievable that you actually responded on such an old video tysm! 😁
      But back to the topic, indeed I love their relationship so so much, it's done so well. It's even more well done when you realize that even tho mob used his powers back then to make the camera's float etc, the media still didn't believe reigen as they thought it was just some cgi or vfx that were being used. That makes the message of ''I know my master is a good person'' hit so much harder, all reigen wants to be happy in life is to feel that mob actually appreciates him for who he is and not what he does.
      And finally after the last season got animated I came back to this scene because it just made me remember how their relationship is based on both of them and not just one of them, as even tho reigen had no powers at all, he usually runs away from strong ghosts etc he went face to face against the scariest being alive that being ??? Because his friend needed him. He did not hesitate at all to give mob the same helping hand he gave him at that moment and basically every other moment since he needs him for the excorsisms he does on a daily basis.

    One of the themes of Mob Psycho is the acceptance of Normalcy. Japan is a nation of tradition and rich culture but also of conformity. Maybe conformity kills individuality to an extreme degree and Animes, being fiction, is a criticism to this. But was being a normal average person really bad? The story of every law abiding citizen can still be different even if they eat the same thing and shit the same thing. The most powerful psychic and the Luckiest conman might just have the same kind of life but different stories. And it comes down to how they live their life. Youth is essential as it's their formative years but growth is still available regardless of age as long as you can accept your flaws and apologize so you can do better. And most of the time you won't realize it by yourself. You may wait for another to reach your hands or allow yourself to be closer to them by extending your hands first.

    I personally dont interpet reigen's confession at the end as him admitting he is powerless. Mob knows, and he's probably known since some point in season 1.What i see this admission as, is reigen confiding in mob his insecurities about being a liar, that he feels he has to lie to everyone around him because they wouldnt like who he really is.

    • @KBWanime
      @KBWanime  2 місяці тому

      Yeah. I think you're right. Season two showed that Mob saw Reigen as a good guy, which shows he doesn't really care what Regien is, but when he tells him he isn't powerful, it shows he trusts Mob despite mob losing control and feeling insecure about all his failings.

    I always highly recommend English speakers watch the show through the English dub, the dub cast is great but mainly because of Chris Niosi, he absolutely kills it and embodies the character

    • @KBWanime

      Shonen is just a demographic. Like we have children's, YA, and adult books. Shonen translated means something like young boy. It's like 12-18 years old. So some shonen are geared younger than others.
      However, when a lot of people talk about shonen, they are generally talking about what shonen jump magazine usually puts out. Things like One Piece, Haikyuu, Dragon Ball, Black Clover, etc.

    Reigan has the same power as Commissar Sebastian Yarrick. He doesn't have any psychic powers of his own but by gaslighting the psychics around him he's powerfull. Ironically making him better at fighting mentally then those with mental powers then regular people.

    i think one of the best parts is when he stops mob with dimple's help, dimple said he cpuld being out people's latent psychic abilities, that means IF reigan actually had phychic abilities he would possibly be equal with mob or stronger then mob
