    Love how people can't just say hey it was a good game. No they have to take it as a chance to say smug is a fraud or smug is overrated when he went up against one of the best, took a game, and even got top 16 in an incredibly stacked tourney. I swear the daigo fanboys are just as butthurt as the smug ones.

      Daigo fanboys are the worst. Whenever he loses, they never give his opponent credit and they always make excuse for him. It's sad. Daigo is a great player. His fans are the worst. FGC fans are hypocritical in general. Xian is hated for counter picking, but I bet Momochi won't get hate for counter picking with Elena to get past EMP Hiro.

    • @JELIFISH19
      @JELIFISH19 9 років тому +3

      Erik Osborne Calling Daigo a former Evo champion is misleading (although true). There wasn't really much international competition back then. Evo was less stacked than most majors in the past few years. You would never hear someone say Justin and Ricky are former Evo 2nd-place winners because they've accomplished so much more since then in more competitive tournaments.

    • @QwietStorm
      @QwietStorm 9 років тому +60

      JELIFISH19 There's nothing misleading about it. He's a former Evo champ. He's won the tournament, more than once. You can't mislead a fact.

      ***** How is it wrong? Winning this year's NCR was more difficult than winning Evo in 2009 and 2010.
      Top 8 at NCR was Daigo, Gamerbee, Nuckledu, Bonchan, Smug, Justin, Kazunoko, and Infiltration.
      Top 8 at Evo 2009 was Daigo, Justin, Ed Ma, Sanford, Shady K, PR Rog, Dan from Japan, and Ricky.
      Top 8 at Evo 2010 was Daigo, Ricky, Infiltration, Mike Ross, Gamerbee, Vangief, Henry Cen, and Shizza.
      Doesn't beating out those players at NCR hold more weight than who he beat at the first two Evos that had SF4? Those Evos didn't have a lot of world-class players. The best players in the world weren't there. It was mainly the best players in the US.

The fact that Smug got even 1 set off of Daigo is a testament to his growing skill as a player. • @jakedge3

    Smug was going for too many overheads in anticipation.
    Daigo is unique among SF players in that he doesn't so much anticipate as he reacts.
    Smug came in with a plan, that much is plain to see, but I can't help but to think that he got too careful, every jab or sweep he threw out was a risk he didn't need to take. it was especially noticeable when they were just casually trading pokes that smug was trying to poke for the sake of keeping daigo on his toes, whereas daigo was poking to do damage.
    Gotta give smug credit though, he held his own like a beast.
    I'd say the daigo-smug matchup is just about even, smug might be just under him by a bit, but his knowledge of uber damage punishes and max tier pressure sets him apart from daigo, who is more about straight up punishes after opening you up once, then waiting for a mistake or using a throw to put you off your game.
    daigo was playing with more psychology, hence why he won.
    you gotta learn to overcome the player, not the character they're playing.
    For smug, it's mostly about dealing the damage as quick as he can, and it's not a bad strategy either, overwhelm the opponent, put em in a corner, finish em off and win, no need to out-think the player past getting two or three openings and using them.

      tdummy1094 At this point, being younger should give you the advantage because Daigo is getting old now and his reactions and other mental capacities should be slowing down; as for Smug those capacities should be at/near their prime. So I don't buy that excuse for a minute.
      If you have said that Smug's career is much younger than Daigo's then I'd give you that. The difference in fighting-game-related-experience between the two is vast and can certainly influence who would win.

So I don't buy that excuse for a minute." What? How does him getting older make his reaction suffer? That's like me saying that I can go take on Jackie Chan in a martial arts fight because he's old so his reactions should be shot. And since I'm young I should be able to beat him even though I've only had 4 years of experience compared to him training his whole life.

    this is a very action packed match. most fights are more slow and strategic. this was aggressor, combo, combo, stun, combo, combo round done and repeat.

    The smug hate is real. That match would have went way differently had Smug not dropped the combo in the first round of the 3rd game. Smug will get another chance at him.

    Very strong smart play from both players. It could have went either way & both men earned each others respect. I do have to say experience did factor strongly in this set & that was in Daigo favor based off his 3rd Strike experience. Ryu's standing Mk has always been a powerful poking tool against Dudley along with his standing Fk but it's not as good in Ultra as in 3rd strike. But nevertheless E.Ryu poking ability w/ his standing Mp & Mk especially when close beats or trades well w/ Dudley. Also even though Daigo didn't through as many fireballs out in this set due to it being Smug & his Dudley, Daigo chose to slug it out against him.

    What I really liked in this match was the adaptability of both players. I see a much different play style in this match up from Diago maybe because Smug just wants to play his game which many know by now is disrespect. There was always something different in the neutral game from Diago because Smug knew which buttons to press at the right time to throw him off his usual game, imo. Smug adapted real well too because when Diago hit the low forward dp to break his focus, Smug adjusted in the second round and was able to whiff the dp in the exact same scenairo.
    I hope Smug continues to play more against these high level Japanese players as he goes to tournaments. He's certainly got quite the resume of players he's faced and when he wins against one of them in a tournament setting, he'll take a good step forward. Stay with Dudley, Smug.

    Lets be honest here the true winners here was the FGC Snakeyez evil ryu going beast on Bonchan / Hiro with the surprise wins and forcing momochi to switch to elena / Arturo aka Sabin wen't on a rampage with Dhalsim very very close fight imo vs momochi and the icing on the cake was the slugfest of 2015 Smug vs Daigo it could of been lamed out by daigo if he played smart but for the sake of hype he gave us a fight to remember and let us know this beast still has fangs.

    You got to give up to both players. Daigo is a legend and this the first smug fought him. Not enough study on smug's part but I still give him props for giving us a show. I'm a fan of both players so I can't choose either side. I just like the underdog to win sometimes like who doesn't right?. lol I like how that dude is calling smug a fraud. He already proved himself in battle circuits and tournaments around the country so lets just shut that down I guess he has a grudge against him whatever the case may be. Smug's only problem was he wasn't capitalizing on daigo's back stepping. Dudley can reach him with forward strong most of the time. I do it all the time, I guess he wasn't focusing on that. But shout out to the players. They did their thing.
