I looked at the time of the video and assumed it was going to be completely one sided. But no, the rounds just ended super fast on both sides. Pretty rare to see in this game.
Zyx Whitewind Two of the highest damage output characters in the game. Matches are going to go fast. Either character can win though I think its pretty close to even.
Love how people can't just say hey it was a good game. No they have to take it as a chance to say smug is a fraud or smug is overrated when he went up against one of the best, took a game, and even got top 16 in an incredibly stacked tourney. I swear the daigo fanboys are just as butthurt as the smug ones.
Daigo fanboys are the worst. Whenever he loses, they never give his opponent credit and they always make excuse for him. It's sad. Daigo is a great player. His fans are the worst. FGC fans are hypocritical in general. Xian is hated for counter picking, but I bet Momochi won't get hate for counter picking with Elena to get past EMP Hiro.
Exactly like, I am a fan of daigo but dude, a loss is a loss, no such thing as "oh he wasn't trying, nah daigos better" like he's really good but people lose.
Erik Osborne Calling Daigo a former Evo champion is misleading (although true). There wasn't really much international competition back then. Evo was less stacked than most majors in the past few years. You would never hear someone say Justin and Ricky are former Evo 2nd-place winners because they've accomplished so much more since then in more competitive tournaments.
***** How is it wrong? Winning this year's NCR was more difficult than winning Evo in 2009 and 2010. Top 8 at NCR was Daigo, Gamerbee, Nuckledu, Bonchan, Smug, Justin, Kazunoko, and Infiltration. Top 8 at Evo 2009 was Daigo, Justin, Ed Ma, Sanford, Shady K, PR Rog, Dan from Japan, and Ricky. Top 8 at Evo 2010 was Daigo, Ricky, Infiltration, Mike Ross, Gamerbee, Vangief, Henry Cen, and Shizza. Doesn't beating out those players at NCR hold more weight than who he beat at the first two Evos that had SF4? Those Evos didn't have a lot of world-class players. The best players in the world weren't there. It was mainly the best players in the US.
Not really, Smug's used to bullying his opponents with high priority moves and mix ups. You can see a slight tilt in his play when Daigo basically just trade hits with him all day at the start.
Lawrence Choong One thing I noticed was that Daigo was still using resources well and made good reads in the later sets. Probably picked up on a few of Smugs BnB ticks and used it against him.
you can't take away that smug is a rising star and he's proving himself more and more its only right if you are a fan that you would want your favorite to win or even have lots of confidence in him
This was the best match of the entire night. I was in ECSTASY the whole time. Such hype play from both players! The fact that Smug got even 1 set off of Daigo is a testament to his growing skill as a player. Daigo is just so good though, I doubt Smug could ever beat Daigo at the level he's at now, but who knows what will happen later on! I would love to see these 2 fight again!
Smuggleton Smugglesworth vs The Beast. The Dream match happened and it was HYPE! But 3:59 I never seen that drop that before and 4:02 unfortunate but still a godlike set.
I actually think that’s what actually made smug lose that set. I was so mad when he dropped it, I knew it shattered his confidence and got too nervous.
Smug was going for too many overheads in anticipation. Daigo is unique among SF players in that he doesn't so much anticipate as he reacts. Smug came in with a plan, that much is plain to see, but I can't help but to think that he got too careful, every jab or sweep he threw out was a risk he didn't need to take. it was especially noticeable when they were just casually trading pokes that smug was trying to poke for the sake of keeping daigo on his toes, whereas daigo was poking to do damage. Gotta give smug credit though, he held his own like a beast. I'd say the daigo-smug matchup is just about even, smug might be just under him by a bit, but his knowledge of uber damage punishes and max tier pressure sets him apart from daigo, who is more about straight up punishes after opening you up once, then waiting for a mistake or using a throw to put you off your game. daigo was playing with more psychology, hence why he won. you gotta learn to overcome the player, not the character they're playing. For smug, it's mostly about dealing the damage as quick as he can, and it's not a bad strategy either, overwhelm the opponent, put em in a corner, finish em off and win, no need to out-think the player past getting two or three openings and using them.
So many great, exciting close matches with alot of upsets mixed in too. Let's hope final 8 matches are just as awesome, but so far this is definitely the best tournament of the year bar none. =))
lol this is what I'm talking about. I love the hype but this is what I say all the time about Smug is that he has to perform at the big stage. It's cool to win at Next Level all the time but he has to start showing up at these tournaments.

It's funny to see people shitting on smug, and shitting for smug, but in reality, Smug has a long way to go (he is one of my favorite players) he still needs experience against the pro's and legends of the fighting scene, and in reality for the experience he allready have, he did a pretty well job. It was an amazing match and that's all we need to care about.
ahah yessss , il give respect hes a strong player but nothing that his dick riding fanboys make him out to be. He went up against a god! and im still convinced dudley damage output needs to be nerfed...
tdummy1094 At this point, being younger should give you the advantage because Daigo is getting old now and his reactions and other mental capacities should be slowing down; as for Smug those capacities should be at/near their prime. So I don't buy that excuse for a minute. If you have said that Smug's career is much younger than Daigo's then I'd give you that. The difference in fighting-game-related-experience between the two is vast and can certainly influence who would win.

There was always something different in the neutral game from Diago because Smug knew which buttons to press at the right time to throw him off his usual game, imo. Smug adapted real well too because when Diago hit the low forward dp to break his focus, Smug adjusted in the second round and was able to whiff the dp in the exact same scenairo. I hope Smug continues to play more against these high level Japanese players as he goes to tournaments. He's certainly got quite the resume of players he's faced and when he wins against one of them in a tournament setting, he'll take a good step forward. Stay with Dudley, Smug.
