I like the whole cast of Gunsmoke, watched the show a lot in the 60's when I was in grade school. Ken Curtis as Festus is one of the memorable characters in TV history.
+Marcellis Robinson Absolutely! And, then to discover what a wonderful singer he was took me by complete surprise. He was a singer with the Tommy Dorsey Band after Frank Sinatra and then with the Sons of the Pioneers. Lovely, lovely voice. Check out here on YT "Don't Fence Me In" with Freddie Quinn (German TV and singing star) where Ken made an appearance as Festus. He and Freddie did I duet with Don't Fence Me In. Festus (Ken) had fans in Germany
Barbara...It’s 2021 now and my husband and I are still enjoying re-runs of re-runs of Gunsmoke. Just love Doc and Festus arguing and also waiting with baited breath for Ms. Kitty and Matthew getting together. Well, one can hope.
Last 20 seconds of those episodes...Matt comes outta nowhere, gun in hand, usually coming to help out Festus...DROP IT!...HOLD IT!... or yelling both. The outlaw gets blasted or locked up,but either way,Matt and Festus always got their man.The Festus years were the best in my opinion.Classic Festus/Doc squabble.
ol Doc and Festus going at it..makes me laugh. festus wasn't so ignorant.. nor was doc so smart, and that clash of wits made for some good ol comedy back then. love it.
It was always amazing how at times, they couldn’t stand each other, but would always defend, and risk their lives, for each other. The ultimate “love-hate” relationship. Great show !!!!
I'm a huge Festus fan.... And you locked the down awesome awesome job... When I seen what this was gonna be I automatically thought this is gonna be awful..... I was wrong and proud of it! Please put more up... Sang us one!
I am with you on this. I thought Festus was a great character on this show. I didn't much care for him when he started out because I thought his character was too gruff, but It did get better. To me, the best thing that ever happened to Gunsmoke is when Dennis Weaver decided to leave. In my opinion, Chester Goode was about the most worthless and useless character ever put into a series. He did nothing to enhance the show. While I think Dennis was a great actor and I thought he did a great job in the McCloud series, it just didn't work in Gunsmoke. The writers of Gunsmoke did a great job with Festus and Doc's dialogue because, as you know, they got into some sort of argument at some point in almost every episode. But, they were always there for each other when the going got tough. It turned out to be a great combination. Gunsmoke is still the best western series to ever be on TV.
Festus on learning to read... "How do I know the man who wrote the writin', wrote the writin' right?" He didn't want to waste his time learning to read "wrong writin' ". Hahahaha...Hahaha ha.... Classic!!
It occurred to me that Doc's somewhat gruff & ornery disposition was the foundation of another 'doctor', who would appear on TV in the decade that followed Gunsmoke. The fact that most of the actors appearing in that series had guest star roles on Gunsmoke adds some credence to the theory. That series was known as Star Trek, and the doctor was 'Doctor McCoy', who could be every bit as gruff as old Doc Adams. He also had a ready 'foil' to argue with ... Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy). When Gene Roddenberry was pitching the idea of Star Trek to NBC Execs., he often made reference to both Gunsmoke & Wagon Train.
I got 2 autographed pics of him in the early 70s when I was a baby/with dad of course! Still cherish them. Also, is Doc Floyd the barber from Andy Griffith?
Festus and Doc were one of the great unsung comedy teams.
I sure do miss Gunsmoke. Doc was my favorite and I always laughed when Doc and Festus got into it.
You can still watch Gunsmoke on Pluto TV.
The scriptwriters were terrific. They knew the characters really well and passed on the pleasure through these great characters.
You are absolutely right, I own the entire DVD 20 season collection and the scriptwriting on many if not all of these episodes are brilliant.
nothing like a little Fetus and Doc a day. helps keep the blues away. love them!

Barbara...It’s 2021 now and my husband and I are still enjoying re-runs of re-runs of Gunsmoke. Just love Doc and Festus arguing and also waiting with baited breath for Ms. Kitty and Matthew getting together. Well, one can hope.
They were for sure a comedy team...truly great to watch those too arguing. And festus was for sure the bestest.
Ken Curtis made the last 11 years of Gunsmoke better than it ever was!!!!!
Oh man poor Doc once again walks away from Festus absolutely flabbergasted🥺😁

ol Doc and Festus going at it..makes me laugh. festus wasn't so ignorant.. nor was doc so smart, and that clash of wits made for some good ol comedy back then. love it.
The entire Gunsmoke cast were awesome, Doc and Festus especially, Gunsmoke will always be my favorite program. Daily viewer.
It was always amazing how at times, they couldn’t stand each other, but would always defend, and risk their lives, for each other. The ultimate “love-hate” relationship. Great show !!!!
@mikenichols9969 if Chester or Festus needed medical attention Doc was on it.
Look how far T V has fallen in 60 years☹️
I guess Barber Floyd was Doc on the CBS radio show of Gunsmoke.
I'm a huge Festus fan.... And you locked the down awesome awesome job... When I seen what this was gonna be I automatically thought this is gonna be awful..... I was wrong and proud of it! Please put more up... Sang us one!

“Well, you green blooded, inhuman”.....”why, thank you doctor!”
I noticed the Doc-Festus and Dr. McCoy-Spock similarities when I was watching both shows as a kid in the 70s.
