    The audience song selections were perfect. They show off everything he's good at. Strong piano, impeccable lyrical style, somewhat obscure. Love it. I would have added a suggestion for selfless, cold, composed.

    I've been listening to Rockin The Suburbs in the car this week. His stories are breathtaking, sad and brilliant. "Carrying Kathy" "Still Fighting It" and "Not The Same" are just stunning.

    I pulled this interview up because I just read Ben Folds' memoir and loved it. It has the same thoughtful inspiring feel as this interview and he narrates the audiobook himself. Highly recommend.

    The late 80s early 90s Greensboro/UNCG band scene was very vibrant. It produced a number of artists. Ben is certainly at the top of the mountain, but a lot of creative souls. The stories that Duck Key studios could tell!

    I love how Ben clarified what the question was about artists from North Carolina. I'm from Scotland and maybe I picked up the premise of the question incorrectly, but Ben seemed like he knew what the interviewer meant and wanted him to make it more clear for people outwith the states. Such a cool interviewee.

    Such a cool career he’s had. He recognized he was past the peak at 33, so he did other things that were equally cool. And had the talent to do it really well. Think of how many artists either stay in their lane far longer than they should or try to venture off into other directions and disappear.

    I saw Ben at Cat's Cradle (you must know where that is) on his tour to support Rockin the Suburbs. Both Darren and Robert performed, so it was basically BF5 doing the current album plus all of their best. One of my best concerts ever...

    Thats interesting that Ben talked about having memories of 2 years old and playing records all day because that echoes a similar experience I had, and like him I remember the floor plan, where we put the christmas tree, everything. My earliest memories are from almost exactly 2 years old, when my sister was a few months old, and I accidentally dropped her, trying to pick her up. At that time, I also remember figuring out how to load 8 tracks in my dad's stereo, and listening to The Beach Boys over and over. Some of my earliest memories, are of playing 8 tracks, and listening to music with my dad.

    • @tflynn717
      @tflynn717 4 роки тому +1

      I had to slow it down to 0.25x but this is it:
      It starts with an E and G together, with a grace note E flat right before the chord.
      After that, it's one note at a time descending:
      C, B flat, G, G flat, F, F again, C
      So it's one chord plus seven notes, then all of that is just repeated in each octave going down.
      Not sure the best fingering though, wish the camera was showing his hands when he explained it!

    I’ll watch anything Ben does. It’s rarely anything but a fascinating conversation when he gives an interview. That said... holy crap, Google. You’re Google! Why would you put your name on something this poorly produced? Is this series someone’s pet project? Hire a team for chrissakes. Was there even an audio engineer? Why was Ben’s mic completely blown out during “Army”... like… No one ever fixed it. That’s inexcusable. I won’t even mention the lighting or the direction or the fact that no one even bothered to take a lint roller to the velvet curtain and I certainly won’t talk about how you should maybe find someone slightly less awkward to host the interview. It’s just a bummer when you use the Google name to pull in a brilliant artist of this caliber and then the whole thing looks like you dropped about 50 bucks on it.
