What is the duration of working memory

Duration of working memory is small
Its role is to temporarily store information that you can actively use at a given time
For example: you remember you are in supermarket and shopping for your grocery
While shopping you remember the list of items that you have to buy
So this is working memory in action
It lasts fraction of seconds
So in working memory we do not retain the info for long
We retain till the time we need it.
