My dash only has one bad mount and the full fix in your dashboard repair video was a little daunting! This is a great alternative - Thanks for sharing!
+TheBimmerphile yes, A buddy of mine named John from California shared that on Volvo forms. And then I had him remind me of where was so I can make that video for people.
I'm buying a 1997 850 base model for $2500, it only has 53,000 mile on the car, what are some things I can check to make sure it is a good buy as a first car
does the original screw go into another plastic piece that is broken behind the dash? I have squeaks coming from the cluster area or behind. Not sure if this fix would help.
This should help my t5r and her really bouncy dash. Both side mounts are bust and the whole dash moves almost a whole inch on rough roads. Cracked the wood sadly
That is definitely easier than pulling out the dashboard. Squeaks drive my wife crazy and she doesn't give up until they are fixed. She who must be obeyed.
+Eric Edmonds Pull the battery from the remote if you have one. If you don't, pull the switch on the dash. I'm not sure but on the '98 cars, it is mounted on the cluster. You can also try swapping out the central locking relay (not sure where it is but you can search it out on Matt's site).
+Eric Edmonds On my V90 the trouble was with the remotes. I took out the batteries and the problem stopped. I just use the key because I'm too cheap to buy new remotes for a 18 year old car.
Hi, I wanna know if there's a dash noise fix for S70 1998 model.. Lots of noise is created when I go over speed bumps or go over a bump or a hole and I can't stand the noise.. does anyone know if it's the same procedure as for the 850?
Very neat and hidden support :-D The drilled strips have been handy for all sorts, i used some years ago to make a bracket for a backbox on my motorbike, not as pretty as a manufacturers product but there wasnt one made for my model, so it was fun with strips :-D My kawasaki Kh125 wasnt even supported by the haynes manual, an unpopular bike :-(
Cant you just use the original screw, add a bigger washer or use some bigger screw since there is a metal where the screw fixes. so there is no need for extra hole.?!
+luucinjsh The screw in the dash does not screw into the frame of the car, it screws the dash pad top to the dash. Also, the hole is not aligned to the A pillar to the car. However, you can try that if you'd like.
Thank you for a simple solution to a vexing problem. I'm going to give this a try on my '99 V70.
Your series of videos is very helpful!
I now use thin stainless steel straps.

Absolutely nothing beats a home made low $ fix! Thanks for sharing a great DIY fix that yields great results.

+Robert DIY Thanks for remembering! That is a chore for me now a days. lol
Your videos are outstanding, I like the fixes you show. Good solutions.
Thank you very much!
Great video, Robert. Have you driven it much since? Did this fix reduce the noise at all?
+andiamo! About 100 miles around town. Reduced it by 80%.
+andiamo! Now to get the crap out of it and stop the other noises. lol
+Robert DIY Thanks! That's encouraging to hear. It would be nice to reduce the noise without pulling the entire dash.

Robert, aren´t you worried about corrosion if you drill into the a pillar?
No

+excxflyr The original screw goes into a metal receiver. My plastic wings are not broken.
+ex.cxflyr Sometimes you can use little pieces of bicycle inner tube rubber to prevent squeaks.
+John Ferguson
will give it a try, thanks

Ouch!

+John Ferguson lol.
i don't have many tools and live in a small apartment. could i buy a couple of these braces from you?
The metal straps?
@@RobertDIY yes! would you sell me some already bent and cut?
you know where the central locking module is located on my 97 850r? my locks are acting up, trying to engage/disengage randomly.

Matthews volvo site? Ok. Thanks Robert.

Isn't the sunroof-drain inside the a-pillar?
Yes
