is learning different softwares challenging or easy?
There are hundreds of different billing softwares. The majority of the ones I’ve used were not difficult to learn. A lot of the cloud based softwares monthly fees include training. And if it doesn’t, you can invest in 1 hour of training provided by experts at the software company to learn the ins and outs.

Hi, Janelle. I completed an associated certificate two years ago in medical billing, but I'm not certified. I went directly into working for my uncle's company. I left after eight months due to my cousin not having any experience in the billing field and being over, barring being my so-called supervisor. I haven't gone back to medical billing since then. I want to start again, but I feel lost and don't know where to begin-hopefully looking for a home medical biller business to start or job if possible. Can you give any advice. 🙏🏾

Thank you for posting this! I am wondering if your experience as practice manager influenced your success as an independent biller. Does it make it easier to secure the trust of new clients? I am worried that I do not have the experience although I've worked in the revenue cycle for 10 years. I only have an associates although I am a certified coder
Hi Mrs Loreal. I don't think my experience as a practice manager influenced my success as a biller because the roles are very different. But I know for sure I was given a chance because the providers already knew my work ethic and commitment to the job. In my case it made it easier but in general you do not have to gain the trust of the clients. Your work experience, education and references will solidify your credibility. If you have worked the revenue cycle for 10 years, have an associates degree and are a CERTIFIED coder, why are you worried? You are a double threat with the ability to both code and bill!
@@AskTheBiller Thanks! Have you ever submit a cover letter stating that you are an independent contractor? ... I'm not sure how else you could phrase the fact that you have your own billing business. Would you put this on a cover letter?

Great video. It was very informative thanks for the information.
I have a question about the 8% commission. You stated that you charge 8% of what you billed the insurance company. I know sometimes the insurance company may only pay part of what was billed to them. For example, let's say a medical claim was sent to the insurance company for $1,000. The insurance company only pays $700 of the $1,000. So is your 8% commission coming from the $1,000 submitted clean or the $700 that the insurance company paid?

Commission is % of “receivables”, not the billed amount. So % of insurance reimbursement. Thanks for watching!
