This reaction reminds me of a scene from sleepless in Seattle.
I guess part of this screen test to see how he would be in a movie, if his ability to act like he was playing a real Guitar. He turned 21, on Jan 8th, 1956 and his the National scene via Heartbreak Hotel, in late Jan 56. This was followed by his 1st TV appearance on Jan. 28th 1956. By April 56, he was given a movie contract. He made 6 TV appearances, on The Dorsey Brothers TV show, followed by his infamous appearance on The Milton Berle show. Then he was on The Steve Show and by Sept Ed Sullivan hired him for a record sum, for the time to make 3 appearances. Over 50 million tuned into see his 1st Ed Sullivan appearance. His first of 29 movies, opened on Thanksgiving 1956.
