That's beautiful arm , is it better than Jelco 750? and is this arm not too heavy for thorens. Tell me please, in this turntable there are original springs or new springs? I bought new springs from you, but I am still waiting for the parcel.
Don’t you first bounce the tonearm , then set cartridge weight, then set the nel points, the the amith. I bought the arm board Jelco plate from vinyl Narvana! All I wish to do is make my Thorens as good as yours David thank you so much
Arms with removable head shells make it so much easier to mount a cartridge. I don't know why all manufacturers don't do it this way. I noticed that there is a recessed center in the cork mat, I guess to compensate for the label area of an LP that is thicker? What brand cork mat is that?
The simple reason why most tonearm makers have moved to using fixed headshell designs rather than removable - eg: SME, Linn, Rega, etc - is because it sounds better. The removable design is heavier and introduces mass into the arm while a fixed headshell, particularly if one piece with the arm tube, is both lighter and more rigid. Given that changing cartridge is such a rare event, most people have little need for the extra 'convenience' of being able to do the initial mounting into the headshell off the arm. In any case, aligning the cartridge properly has to be done with the headshell mounted in the arm so the extra convenience is minimised. You are indeed correct that the recess in the centre of the mat is to accommodate the thicker label area, as it is important that the playing area of the record is properly supported.
My opinion has changed over time. I think it is better if you do not use a record weight with heavy albums , on these suspended subchassis turntables anyway.
@@ralex3697 I should have heard any centre mass is not a good idea you don't want mass above the spindle. Best thing for a clamp is one of those stick-on things in the bathroom furniture, just drill a tight hole in the middle slide over the spindle should do you fine no mass
Hi Dave , I have a fantastic TD 160 with Jelco TS-550S and a HanaSL and it so great😊
That table is marvellous
You know Dave, I am turning my TD160 back to original .what to make a rosewood armboard

So, on the super I see a platter record weight but you said use none on the TD 160

Both Td 160 my option is it is the same on the TD 160 Super
How high you set the plate above the chassis
🙋👍❤️👌
Shouldn't use a weight on on a Thorens turntable the shim and bearing is not strong enough only stainless steel a clamp would be alright

Do you leave the cueing lever down for good once you’ve adjusted the arm?
