  • Silkscreening need not be expensive or complicated. In this episode of DiResta, Jimmy fashions a simple silkscreen and busts out some cool 'screens.
    In each episode of DiResta, artist and master builder Jimmy DiResta (Dirty Money, Hammered, Against the Grain, Trash for Cash) lets us into his workshop, to look over his shoulder while he builds whatever strikes his fancy. Learn more here: makezine.com/vi...

    Thank you all for love and comments! check standardscreen dot com for all the supplies used , the film was printed with a typical Epson on printable film, also avail at standardscreen. screen fabric was "80 Mesh" stapled on typical wood frame. THANK YOU!!! xoxo !!subscribe to my channel for my other videos!!

    Here is another example of a multi-talented craftsman at work. Jimmy appears to have no limitations. I really like his video technique. It allows him to show the process without making the video too long. Keep it up, Jimmy!!

    We did silk screening in Junior High School. Those are some of my fondest memories! I remember doing a bulldog and it was so satisfying to see the whole process done from start to finish! Great job, as usual, Jimmy!

    Cool video. That's a very cool home brew. A little staple tape, gaffer tape or even duck tape over the mesh before you staple will keep the mesh from prematurely tearing on you near the staples. A scoop coater might help too ;) Come get some Catspit~!

    Nicely done! Don't forget to put any T-shirts under an approved heat source (lamp or heat gun) for drying the ink. I had a friend in the business. Great job as always Jimmy!!

    My Dad's old sign company used to use screen printing to make all the portable vinyl road signs such as the ones all the Police use here in the UK (i.e. "POLICE SLOW" and "POLICE ACCIDENT" etc) and to this day I have always wondered how it worked and that's been about 25 years of not knowing!

    Wow, Jimmy!! You really know how to rock us!! A lot of people in the comments wanting the shirts.. I think you should put the shirts up for some merchandise and make a huge profit there. Either from Hell's Flea Marker to online. What do you think, buddy?

    Silkscreen is amazing, it can be used on so many things and you probably don't realize that many things you constantly use are silk screen printed. The metal and cloth ones will not stay on for long, you need special inks for them and using the paper specific one will just flake off with use. Otherwise it is an amazing way to just make things pop permanently for cheap.

      I watched the whole show and, think this way of things - is much better.
      and i don't like John and his jokes, and him personally, being cruel and absolutely dumb father, worse part of the show for me.
      glad for Jimmy, and he used the chance to do fulltime something he's best at - inspiring humanity with confidence that everything is not so much complicated and quite doable.

    • @TheNachotime

    • @Georgeツ
      @Georgeツ 7 років тому +1

      I'm pretty sure that the producer's made John act dumber than he was and it was 100% their idea to call Matt, Ratboy, and treat the kid like shit. They thought it was funny. Jimmy has expressed that he wasn't a fan of the producers and TV in general.

    • @TheModShopCO
      @TheModShopCO 8 років тому +1

      Not so much showing off. More so branding. Its very important. If he were to exclude his name in every form of a video and you stumbled upon it you would say "Thats Jimmy DiResta". Rather than, "Hey that's that guy who's really good at making shit". lol

    • @redfreckle2044
      @redfreckle2044 8 років тому +2

      Yes, also he really likes his own name. Branding is one thing, having it four times side by side on one t-shirt looks foolish and is totally unnecessary.

    Does anyone know the name of the different materials used here? What is the name of the screen material used, the UV reactive compound, the stuff used to stick the print out to the screen, the stuff used to removed the UV exposed material, and the paint used for the actual screen printing? Trying to do some of this stuff myself, thanks.

    • @Bugboibrolli
      @Bugboibrolli 8 років тому +1

      mesh or more of a screen fabric. emulsion cream or something like that I don't know the chemicals for removal but. I don't know the stuff used to stick it but in order to burn it in you have to place one of those clear plastic sheets with your design already printed on it with light directly on it. and the paint just look up screen printing paint.
