  • In each bi-monthly episode of DiResta (every other Wednesday at 2pm PT), artist and master builder Jimmy DiResta ("Dirty Money," "Hammered," "Against the Grain," "Trash for Cash") lets us into his workshop, to look over his shoulder while he builds whatever strikes his fancy. On this episode of DiResta, Jimmy turns some birch branch slices into a table.

    Amazing work as always! What impresses me is that Jimmy's videos show way more usable and enjoyable content that some of these others who seem intent on hearing their own voices and seeing their pictures in the camera screen! Jimmy shows more in 5 minutes that the rest do in 25 minutes!!

    This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxkNYRBJuiJ6EwD-tQSAlxg0eFKsnR2cgz I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seems to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.

    The log is 7 - 8 inches, table saw only will cut 3 inches. I could use a band saw but if you ever tried to cut an odd shape on the band saw you'll find it is not safe. That is why i use a hand saw.
    Hand saws are made very sharp and are more useful then one would expect. thank you all for watching and commenting.

    this is the only time i think he went for the easy way out... this table could have been so much nicer if he had skipped the metal part... and made the legs and all in wood. maybe pear wood or something red

      +blake krajewski Not that I agree with him, but he was talking about the legs, not the table surface. Personally I think the legs look kinda nice.

    1:40 Without sawdust would be better, I mean using just transparent epoxy, my opinion. That way you can see the bark.

    • @RoryAllenBlender
      @RoryAllenBlender 8 років тому +7

    • @Krish-pw2gi

    • @jriquelmy
      @jriquelmy 8 років тому +1

      +Juan Carlos Barradas
      Also, if he used clear epoxy he'd still have to sand it and it would take away the clear that would allow for seeing the bark. :-( Not sure how to go about having it be all nice and clear without having to sand it.

    I agree with the other comments, the legs leave a lot to be desired and seem like a quick after thought. The top is a wonderful piece, when it was first removed from the mould, I thought, its horrible! Once the sanding was done and the final layer of resin, it turned out lovely.

    OK - I know this is an old video, but I just saw it and loved it. Here's a thought that may prove helpful. I know the top had to be routed down about 1/4" due to the epoxy soaking into the wood unevenly. In hindsight (always 20/20), sealing the wood slices with poly, shellac, or maybe even epoxy itself in advance may have solved the problem.

    before you spread that plastic down what did you spray on the framing below it? I have a farmhouse table that the wood has spread apart and now I want to use some epoxy or urethane to fill the gaps and I figure the easiest way would be to build a frame and set the table in upside down it then pour in the filler product. the gaps are up to an 8th inch would you use epoxy over urethane?
