It feels like air is coming in my car when I start driving. Could it be that I need to replace the cowl and the panels on the passenger side? Also the driver side panel is starting to raise at the top. Does it just unclip?
Hi I believe you can possibly save the current one if not broken. Remove the entire thing and inspect to see if the tabs are not broken. If it is I think you can install a new tab and replace the double sided tape. The panels are about 45 dollars if you dont want to deal with the modifications. As far as the sound it can be the cowl weather strip that if its broken it can make noise. I just posted an aftermarket cowl below for about $130 dollars if you want to replace and cheaper than the Ford one. I also added below a weather strip you can install on the cowl if you dont want to replace the entire thing but I have not tried it so not sure about it. Hope this helps
Hello I got mine at the dealer. You can also put the part number online and will give you some options but sometimes shipping is high. Amazon did sell it at a good price but no longer available.
Hello Amazon doesnt have it listed any longer but here is the part number. bb5z78022a68-aa you might have to buy it at dealer locally or just put the part number online and sometimes you will find it at a good price but shipping can be pricy. thank you
Hi sorry about that. They are kind of delicate to remove they have a plastic thread so you have to remove slowly without pushing in kind of floating the Phillips screwdriver. thanks
Thanks! I have noticed misting more than usual after replacing the cowl. Is the cowl not to be glued or something? Because the original one used to stick very close to the windshield.
Hello I have looked online for that part and no luck for me. I think you might have to visit the dealer so you can point it on their diagram. Sorry couldnt help on this one. thank you
2 questions. 1. Can I replace the windshield cowl BB5Z-78022A68- AA without replacing the pillar cover? 2. Can I get that windshield puller at my local O'Reilly's? Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Like & subscribed.
Hello yes you can replace the cowl by itself without the side pillar removal. If you mean the wiper removal tool you can order at Oreillys but they dont have in stock at least near me. I purchased my panel puller on Amazon. I used the panel puller to remove the wipers but you have to be careful with the windshield. The wiper tool is inexpensive on Amazon its one of those tools you buy once and its cheap. Hope this helps let me know if you have any other questions. Thank you
Let us know if it works. The (currently open) NHTSA investigation is specifically to address concerns that some of these cowls are breaking loose at highway speeds and hitting drivers following behind. I highly doubt it will address the poor quality of the flaky rubber they use at the windshield interface. These cowls are absolute trash. Same problem on my 2013 and 10 years later seeing zero design change from Ford. Smh.
Hello I dont think the corners have a snap clip. make sure that all the main clips are pushed in. On the ends make sure the weather strip is over the cowl. Hope it helps. thank you
I noticed you used true FORD parts, not those from Amazon. Have you used the Amazon-sourced parts (Brand: Gledewen), and how to they stack up quality-wise? True FORD parts are nearly 3x more expensive.
Hello I used the Ford parts but have not used the other ones from Amazon. It was my friends car and he got at Ford so I did the work for him. Aftermarket parts sometimes are good and sometimes they are a bit cheap. I have put those part numbers for other things on Google and you can find original parts from online Ford dealers and are cheaper than going to the dealer. Try that to see. If you are keeping the car for long time get the ford ones. I have changed the cowl on a 2016 jeep that I had and just did my sons bmw 2018 also the cowl was destroyed.
Picked up the same part for my 2017 explorer on eBay for $100, but the weather strip was very skinny, unlike the OEM part, and was falling off the cowl due to inadequate adhesive. I chose to return it (free return postage) and opted for an OEM from a local on-line dealer. OEM part was $242+$20 tax and free shipping. Came with the wider weather strip properly secured. I'm keeping the vehicle so it was worth it for me.
@@hunter548 Sometimes aftermarket parts are not the same as oem but way cheaper. My friend wanted the oem parts I get discount at the dealer which helps out a little. Thanks
I can't make out the word you use to describe the tool used to pull the windshield wipers off - I hear puller, but can't make out the first word??? Anyone?
Hello in my case I just wiggled the base of the wiper and it came out. Sometimes they do get stuck and a wiper tool is needed. The best way is to use a wiper tool which are very cheap to get. Thanks amzn.to/4g1d0jN
I've seen many people had the issues on cowl and pillar weatherstripping. Ford should be ashamed with these weatherstripping defects! Will be replacing mine just ordered cowl part from ebay. Not surprising, there are many people selling these parts on ebay. Dealer says they are replacing my pillar ones under recall on my 2017 Explorer in January 2025, because they can fly off car or some bullshit. Terrible workmanship Ford! Ford should be replacing the cowl one too, but they said they won't be doing that one, even though its obviously a defect too. 👎
I totally agree with you on that. I did a Jeep Grand Cherokee I had that drove me crazy with the horrible cowl design too. Seems like cowls go bad rather fast. I also replaced the cowl on my son's BMW that fell apart also. My Escalade cowl seems to be holding up well and its a 2016.
A warning to anyone else: do not try to pry up the windshield wipers. The cast metal bolting them in place snapped off for me before the wiper came loose.
Upon further inspection it might be plastic molding. Either way permabond and a zip tie was my bandaid since I could not wait for another part before reassembling.
@ExtremDIY, Is the wiper arm puller you linked in your description a confirmed fit for a 2014 Explorer? In other words, is that the one you purchased and tested yourself?
I know they dont last long. You can try this weather strip to see if it will work. amzn.to/3YVfWHx you can also paint the old cowl and add this strip and possibly save some money. These are aftermarket when I did the video there were non. This is aftermarket amzn.to/4hzq5ll
I am trying to be more independent thank you for the videos this will be my first time doing something like this.

Hello you are very welcome. Glad it helped.
Great video!! I'm also in SoFl. We know about humid heat!
Thank you, Oh yeah our weather is humid..
Well done, thanks.
Welcome
You get more leverage on the wiper assembly when they are folded upwards with the hood closed. They come off easy then.
Thanks for the idea
You are good worker!
Thank you

Excellent video! We got a 2017 explorer for a tow vehicle and these parts are extremely sun damaged.
thank you
They are not sun damaged..
They are poorly made cheap plastic without UV ray protection...
Thanks
I have same problem (cowl) with my Ford Explorer 2017 limited, thanks for the video
You are very welcome
Can you install the Cowl without the A pillars removed?
Hello yes you can do them separately
Thanks

Where did u get it at
Hello I got mine at the dealer. You can also put the part number online and will give you some options but sometimes shipping is high. Amazon did sell it at a good price but no longer available.
what about the molding at the top of the windshield?
Hello we didnt replace that one this time.

Would have been nice if you showed how to remove the screw heads at 5:45. You showed how to put them in but never how to take them out.

Yes, super glue it all around …
@@walterwhite1 No, really? Superglue will destroy the rubber and no doubt affect the windscreen too.

I am telling our Ford dealer they need to replace ours for free because of the NHTSA investigation into this.
Hello have you contacted them regarding this issue. Maybe there is one for this vehicle. Thanks

having trouble putting a cowl on the 2014 ford explorer xlt on the corner it wont snap in why
