I do a lot of spot repairs, and I always cover my blend area before doing my base to keep the color out of the blend area. With silver, it's not too bad, but I find that if I have color in my blend area with darker colors, I always get a burnback line when buffing. What do you think? Do you have the same problem?
Hi Gunny- I do this type of spot blending on my used cars all the time. Thanks to you, I've tried the Colad UV filler. It was only like 20 bucks on eBay or Amazon. And a $12 UV light on eBay does the hardening in 5 seconds. The price "is definitely coming down"!!! I have only used it a couple times but you are right that it does not shrink- it feathers out finely. Not for deep stuff, but is FAST! It does seem like a plastic sort of. I'm going to try that first step of shaving it with a razor blade. (I like shaving bondo or bog with a cheese grater first too.) 1k primer works for me too unless feather edges lift. Thanks for your videos.
Howdy gunman! I've got a big full size "pickup truck" as we call them in Canada in for work. Pearl black. Been smashing it out with my SRI pro mini gun, and some quality 1:1 epoxy primer, quality Dupont solvent base, and quality 1:1 high solids SPI clear. Customer will be floored. Im redoing some cracked and bad work from another shop years ago.
Superb job on the Merc Gunny, you always make it look so easy doing these small jobs is just a walk in the park for you. I do like the latest UK tech the UV putties are a total game changer as they cure so quickly even with a budget UV lamp it's so much quicker than 2k plus there is zero shrinkage👌 Your wife's Merc is looking good mate it's the same colour as my SLK in the 744 silver, enjoy the rest of your holiday🙏👍John UK
Another great repair Gunman what would be a good little Gun for me DIY in the garage have 2 guns at the moment would like a Gun which is less in overspray but still able to produce good quality spray.
I used to jump in and paint a car or repairs and loved it, but these days it feels like it is beyond me and I have 2 vehicles that need paint,, not good, hopefully one day I manage to get back in to it and get them done.
Hey I spray boats with awlgrip but I’m planning on moving to the coast and want to work at the shop my uncle works at. They spray glasruit line 55 I think you’ve sprayed that if I remember right.. how do you like it? Do you have videos where I can watch it be used. I like the 100 line I’ve seen that used a lot.
Not sure how breakers look in Australia but if your garage is on a 15amp breaker, you can switch it out for a 20 or 25 amp breaker if it isnt already and that should fix the flipping problem. Also not have so many things plugged into one outlet. If you have multiple outlets in your garage then just run extension cords and free up the load on one outlet.
Won't make any difference what outlet he uses if garage is all on one breaker. He needs an electrician to upgrade breaker if wiring can carry the extra load 👍
@@SalvageMasterEssex my point was that if the breaker is say a 15 amp, he can upgrade it to a 20-25 amp one and it will fix the issue unless it already has a higher amp breaker
@@latinprince896 And my point was, if he upgrades to a 20 - 25 amp breaker but only has wiring that can handle say 15 amp, he's gonna burn garage down. Hence reason I said consult an electrician 👍
I always enjoy your uploads! So on the lacquer blend that was just some regular thinners/reducer in with the lacquer to melt it? That new Sprayguns Direct gun look decent.
Good job Gunny. Do you run a bit of dishwashing detergent in your water spray bottle to help stop the paper from clogging, or do you think it isn't worth it? I always have and it seems to help. Just curious.
I like watching you mask thats one thing I will never be as good as you masking 6'4'''' big guy I paint good now, but the first 40 years heavy collision and then I got DRAFTED
Hey, just to learn for myself here. What’s the reasoning you use nicky to fill in the repair as apposed to feathering it out completely? On plastic can’t you just feather it all the way out because it’s soft material and you can sand the layers away? Thank you
How do you get the paint from retail shop to have colour match as there are variants. Planning to do spot repair on 3 layer pearl. But worrying no way to get the colour close with original bumper.
@@TheGunmanChannel Well in those cases damage was caused by driver of the other car who clearly never had any sensors crashing into the car that did have sensors 🤣🤣

What is any better .. doing what you love , for the people you love … and sharing your expertise …. Another great one
Love that moment when you get the clear down and you realize that you did it right. Nice work!
You can try wet sanding in your home projects. That will help you reduce dust levels and get a cleaner result..
He did wet sand where it was required
Fabulous. Definitely my favorite painter on youtube! Love these real world repairs. Best to the missus for the inspiration ;)
Thanks for this Gunny. This week I will paint an entire car in my home shop. I have been prepping for this all winter. Wish me luck.
Thanks to the mrs 😅 i love doing spot repairs good fun to see how quick you can do them. 👊

Always cool to see how you solve different projects.
Back in 1990 when I spray painted, DeVilbies were the big thing, fun to see you're a fan too

Turned out Brilliant, have a great Easter break👍 Cheers 🍻🍻🍻KC 🇦🇺 🤝🇦🇺😊👌👊
So good buddy. If you were doing a spot repair with a solid colour. Would you just use the colour the same as your clear coat?
Insane results. Not as easy as it looks!
So many paint body shops have told me it's impossible to spot repair silver, guess they were talking sh.te 😂
You are the best one in the world 👏🏻

Very good video well explained some of your best work
You didn't need a blending thinner laid down first, for the metallic to sit in ?
It scares me , the when the black flakes stand up on the edge.
In the middle of a door, yes. Not on a bumper end.

Small inconspicuous areas.

How much paint would you mix up for a repair of this size Gunny so as not to waste unused paint

PUTTY THE MLDG and use chrome spray paint. Not as good but not noticeable.
How you get clean jobs with the clear with that dirty garage? Do you wet floors ?
Замутнеет ли этот лак со временем ?
How much it would be little spot repair job like this one ?

It's difficult, but some auto paint suppliers will match for you, you just have to find one near you
Great vid mate. So nice to see a real pro not being too precious to show how to do jobs like this. No parking sensors on Oz Merc’s?
They do have parking sensors just not on the 2001 models

No, it will only cure specific UV curable products.

Maybe a great product but unless you do a lot of body work every day the price of the light just isn't feasible ?
I get it, but for those of us who repair and paint daily it's definitely worth it
