I have 15 law boys. I live near a long, long time dealer who kept it going until he died in 2018 unfortunately. He didn’t sell new ones anymore of course but sort of hung out and maintained and repaired lawn boys for local folks who bought them there over the years. Mine are all commercial grade models except for a couple. My prize possession is my 1984 model 6262 commercial with blade brake clutch that was new in the box, never assembled. I’ve still never put it together. It was the best of the best. The dealer had many new old stock mowers that were sold at auction. And over 400 used ones in storage that needed some repairs, traded in, etc. I’ve used them since I was a kid in the 70’s. Family all had lawn boys. 32:1…all day long!!!
am glad i’m a Lawnboy fan way back to the old Gold SnowBoy ! Absolutely the nicest Lawn mowers made til the later nineties. hWould love to get a shop manual for a 10515 needs shaft bushing replaced ,leaks oil .
I've never used, owned or ever seen a Lawnboy in person. But I enjoy seeing Taryl working on different types of machines. Always well explained and shot to were you can understand how it works. Thumbs up from East Tennessee.
We have one for 40+ yrs. Because it is 2 stroke, you can use it to mow steep slopes without fear of starving the engine of oil. It is however difficult to start after sitting for any length of time but is relatively quiet once running. Excellent drive on it.
I just got one last week. All i had to do to get it running was put new crank seals in it. I've used it to mow a few yards and so far it cuts and runs great
@@Legalmachinist should not be difficult to start. My 1956 5000 and 1979 7268 fire in two pulls everytime. Once in awhile they'll turn over in one pull. Non oxygenated 91 octane is the secret. Amsoil Saber mixed 32:1 is my preferred oil

Only seen this one time. Had to do it without that tool. Little slow the first time but I only had to pull the flywheel 2 times. Thanks for the video Taryl.
Those didn't come around until the F engines which were the ones that replaced this model in the video. I believe the production engine models were: A, C, D400, D600, F, V, M(oil injected, no mixing fuel) and strangely E(Duraforce)
sounds like that old ted williams outboard motor we had. it was 7.5 horse and the loudest thing on the lake. i have a lb 10328 with a 4 stroke engine. a tecumseh lv100. bought it new in 98. runs perfect. never even had the carb off it. every 6,7,8 years i have to clean the main jet.
I remember hearing a lot of those old lawnboys running a little bit erratically as far as speed was concerned kind of like this one just did to begin with. I wonder if that governor/weight set up is sticky and needs some sort of lubrication?
Taryl great channel can’t believe you do not have more subscribers, i watched 6 hrs of the content on Saturday. I have a lawn boy riding mower with a Kohler and peerless transmission I was wondering does it really need that bentonite grease? Thank you much plan on picking up taryl apparel soon.
The reason that plastic collar turns like it does is because the engine can run backwards. Only an issue with the D 600 engine. The D 400 does not have the issue as it has points. If you were to shut the mower off with the switch and just before it stopped completely you were to turn the switch back to on as the engine kicked back before stopping completely it could run backwards. The collar turns counter clockwise and shuts the fuel off by closing the throttle. Just a FYI.
Toro who bought the lawnboy brand back in 1989 stopped making lawnboys with two cycle engines in the early 2000s. Toro still uses the lawnboy label on what is considered their budget brand of lawn mowers, but they’re 4cycle engines of different brands. Not true lawnboy mowers.
We had a LawnBoy in the 80's. Simple, reliable Mower. Loaned it to s neighbor and supplied the Pre-mix gasoline. He decided to use his own Gasoline which wasn't Pre-mix. Seized the engine. Was too expensive to fix at the time and neighbor didn't give a crap. So another OMC LawnBoy went to the dump.
You'd thought that they would have made the rod adjustable, so you wouldn't have to pull the flywheel off to adjust the rpm. Or it could be that they didn't want it to be easy to adjust.
Lawn-Boys of this vintage were to be serviced annually by your dealer's service department. Somewhere on YT is an old LB video for dealers that instructs them on up selling new blades and spark plugs every year, selling an extra spark plug, extra LB oil, a LB fuel can etc. It was cheesy and mostly unnecessary, but it worked and the mowers would last for decades and decades if maintained. Do keep in mind that LBs were easily 2x the price of the average mower. Our local LB dealer would pick up the mower, "tune it up" for the season with a new plug and blade, clean under the deck, inspect and clean the exhaust ports, clean the muffler, spot paint scuffs, lube the wheels and height adjusters, flush the fuel tank, clean the carb bowl, replace the fuel line, replace the starter rope at the least sign of wear, give it a good wash, test run it, and drop it back off with a full tank of fresh fuel. EVERY YEAR FOR DECADES. I have no idea what all this cost, but everyone on my mothers side of the family had Lawn-Boy mowers. The ones with real money had the self propelled variety. haha! That little dealer would service hundreds of mowers each year. All preventive maintenance. I remember the guy dropping it off in a jump suit uniform with his name embroidered on one side and Lawn-Boy logo on the other. It was a different time, and a different world really.
@@mikemorgan5015 Sounds like it was very upper class. Today a crew of three-four comes out & brings their own equipment. Times change. Long Live LB, Long Live Snapper ! (never owned a Lawn Boy) : l
@@timewa851 Lawn-Boy's fate was sealed when Toro bought them. While they are still around, they are now just another consumer mower brand IMO. In the days I recounted above, nearly all of the professional landscapers(there weren't many and they mostly did commercial work like banks and businesses) in my area used Lawn-Boy mowers. Operators couldn't forget to check or change the oil, they were light and nimble to use, and they didn't rust out.
Ended up at a nice rpm... Ideally, this mower gov should be set at 3200 rpm. while under LOAD cutting grass, not spinning free. You want the rpm high up in that max HP power curve while under operating conditions on that high throttle setting. Just don't set the gov so high it over revs and you are all good. No one on mowing channels ever mentions that. I have a mud motor channel, that's how I figured it out.

How can a jolt from a hammer ruin something in that engine? Do people realize how much impact is on that crankshaft everytime you hot something in the yard? People even bend cranks from hitting stuff and there's no internal engine damage. Now yeah, if you rear back and let go with a sledge hammer, something's gonna give. But just a reasonable lick with a typical ballpeen hammer isn't gonna hurt anything...

Good sound advice from a level thinking man with lots of experience and heaps of good looks
I can't explain why but I love the Lawnboy videos. Seems like a drunk cousin of the lawnmowers of today.
Every lawn boy i've had has had the air vane governor. I have a Duraforce now and it has a little click wheel to adjust the air vane spring tension.

Just like the one we had when I was a kid it was great it was one of the first ones in the area with self propelle
Curiosity question on other engines, what is the difference between adjusting the throttle vs the governor?
Bending the "Wind Vane" upward increases the speed of the engine? I didn't know that. Thanks Mr. Taryl.

Hello Taryl, I love your videos. Do you ever work on outboard boat motors?
Who makes the gas motor for lawnboy?
Like a surgeon👌
We had shit loads of those in New Zealand in the early 50s, they were marketed as iron horse engines in Morrison mowers.
Back in high school I took a small engine class and all we worked was lawn boys. Easy mowers and sort of tough
Still the Lawn Boy King.
I LIKE the BACKGROUND MUSIC !!!!!!!!!!!
Always good info 👌
Never need the info love the entertainment thanks and more please
I still can't believe you got my old mower..I forgot all about that thing
The manual clearly shows a right-handed hammer and you sir used a left-handed hammer.
yes
Were you get that tachometer at.
No idea he’s had this stuff for a while I’m sure you can find something on Amazon or eBay or even a local mower shop
Hello to Elkskins!
I have a two and a half gallon Lawn-Boy gas can, I also have a two and a half gallon gas can that says Craftsman on it. They are identical
Anybody remember the baggers that stuck out about 3 feet? Took a little planning to cut the local old ladies yard!
When I was a kid in the 70’s, it was always the weird neighbors that had these. We never had any trouble out of ours……….
I have all sorts of respect for an external governor.
Why is the right front wheel offset to the back.
if its to fast you can also take the Governor rod out and grind the tip .. it faster then pulling the fly wheel ..
Love lawn boy related
Thanks buddy
I still haven't fixed my damn Duerr wood chipper! More interested in getting/helping country to think right.
Well good luck with that!
