I had same year bug when I was 19 years old. Good old memory. If we have YOU Tube way back, it might help me doing many things. Always enjoy watching NEVER boring.. thanks Chris V for many posts..👌 👍
Great job. A few reminders for me. Last time I pulled a shell off was back in 1982 when I worked in a VW/Audi/Porche shop. We had 4 metal rods with threading at one end and a rounded top for the guide pins, made by some tool company I can't remember. (Getting old). I'm starting a 1968 bug now so wish me luck. Wanted a 1969, however, no such luck. But this one lived in AZ its whole life so no rust. Thank the God's. A little less work. Still gotta pull the shell off for a complete paint job and a switch from swing axle to IRS. Any way thanks again for the video.
Thanks for the video. It was a big help as far as where the flat square rubber grommets go. The kit from J-Bugs did not give any insight. Also, the info on where to get new bolts was helpful as well. I'm helping my brother-in-law rebuild a '68 bug. Thx again! Mike
1. he does not do all the work himself he has others helping so y'all fits 2. im fron tennessee and its a force of habbit when talking about multiple people
Hi chris got a question my bug is a 1974 someone put front seats out of early 60 low cut seat before i order Materials for the front seat is the back seat all the same size from the 60 to the 74
I think that I would run a tap through every mounting hole before setting the chassis down. Also, I believe I would use anti seize instead of WD-40. WD-40 evaporates and should bolts need to be removed again it would be a lot easier. As needed tapping is okay until there is a stripped hole that you find after mounting the chassis. Easier to fix beforehand.
Terrific videos, I just got a 65 bug that needs pans and channels (maybe more). If possible could send me a punch list of parts used on your 65. It would be very nice to get off to a good start on my project
@chris vallone What dowel size did you use. I imagine if you had a dowel that is a little smaller it would wobble to much and not help as much with alignment. Those look perfect that you used.
Are the body bolts from the hardware store heat treated? Could be a difference in impact to shear. Just curious, because I was in the heat treat and zinc plating of fasteners like these for a few years. I have do the same with my 65 and the video is helpful. Looks great.
I used to own a ‘73, while in college, and now want to build a Bug. I’m interested in using a later model floorpan from a SuperBeetle for the IRS instead of the swing arm rear suspension under an early 60’s body which is my body of choice. I’m new to Bug building; is this do-able? Any specifics to watch for? Also, I’m interested in upgrading to front discs. Anything to expect? I’ve subscribed and I welcome your in-depth and straight forward presentation. Thanks!
I'm thinking about making a roller dummy chassis to put my '63 body on so I can move it around and eventually haul it to the paint shop. I want to use an IRS chassis so it won't need a transmission on it to roll. Will the 63 body fit onto an IRS chassis? I'm thinking there are probably some differences at the rear mounting areas.
Hi Chris, what's the name of this red paint?I have a 1963 bug with (Ruby red L456) color code, and soon it's time to finish the restoration and paint the car, but it seems as if this color doesn't exist anymore, do you have any idea which modern color can be used instead? I really want to restore the car to its original look. Thanks
I have to replace the body of my VW beetle 1302 build june 1971 back to the chassis. As far as I could find, I only have to replace pad's to support body to rear shock tower. But I don't know the correct thickness of the blocs to fit. How to define correct thickness when I have to cut blocs of 15mm thick?
Great video I just have a question about the pans I was thinking one day yeah I know it's dangerous to be thinking that's the professionals but all joking aside those pants tend to rust out is there anything you could do to prevent that maybe a coating or what I sound like a Rhino Lining like they do for trucks just curious thank you have a nice day be blessed
Where the 4 long heater channel front bolts go, if the threads are completely eaten up, can they be repaired or do I have to replace that whole part under the firewall?
ceyoung0304 you can't do that with the front four because they go straight into the channels.... I wish I could though. What I'm actually thinking about doing is cutting those slots from the side and insert spacers in there and weld it back up. I will exhaust all (cheap) options before buying that whole piece lol.
I was just wondering I have a 62 sunroof bug I may try to redo if it is not too bad, my husband and his dad have a lot of parts, engines, fenders, hoods, doors, carbs, transmissions and if we don't do the 62 we will look for another in better shape to do sometime, my father inlaw had 33 bugs in his lifetime he told me his favorite was the 56 and the 62. I remember my husband had adapters with 14" ford wheels on his 62 we had alot of fun in the winter in the snow with that one with the typical 16 year old donuts and emergency brake slides, miss those day's.
Nice bugs . I'd really like to know three things about the 1600 motor . The horsepower , the maximum speed and fuel consumption . And is there a diesel model for these cars ? Thanks in advance !!
1600 single ports are great motors, HP is like 60hp, the max speed is like 80 or so, and you can get like 30-32mpg if tuned right. Some people can even do better in fuel. As far as diesel? Don't think so.
1600 single port does about 25 mpg on a decent tune, 30 on a fine tune. 1600 dp is probably 20-25 mpg but better can be achieved if tuned properly and if aftermarket parts are well made, brazilian stuff is BS, mexican stuff is ok but german is superb.
+The Shop Life Pretty much, but there are more attachments in the front for a super. There are mountings under the dash, and the shocks mount in the trunk area.
+ Chris Vallone Parts of the body and tub was not factory mastic coated in 65? Reason why I ask, friend's all original and rot-free 70 was Mastic coated at the factory before painting in the wheel arch area, good portion of the exterior of the floor, etc.
when the rear end of the beetle goes up in the air, say on a lift or jacked up, the tires lean on an angle due to the rear axle setup. But they straighten out once the car moves.
hi Chris I have a 69 baja bug and just got a 66 beetle the pan is vary clean but it was hit in the back now it's stuck in gear could somthing in the trans got dammage?
I recently purchased a super beetle baja styled bug and my floor pan is in pretty bad shape how much does it cost for pans and where's the cheapest place to buy them
guess but it sure would help with the power issue if it was ran in the mountains here in pa. Really nice job it looks better than new. I have cut up a lot of bugs over the years to make dune bugs I wish I would have put a few back but at the time they where all over the place and for 50 to 100 bucks You could pick them up. Great Channel!

Chris, what a fantastic video. Thank you.
Love all your tips I did alot of your tricks 😁

Chris, do you renovate these Beatles for customers or do you do them and sell them. What would that red one cost?
I do both, but mostly builds called "build a bug" info is all on my website.
Hi I have enjoyed the videos I have my first classic vw beetle have to put a new exhaust on it are they hard to put on my vw Iis a 1970 model
Are there rubber pads that need to be installed between the chassis and body?
Yes, called shock pads
How do you achieve such a glossy finish? Do you color sand and buff out the paint job? Thanks!
Amazing work
Awesome vid! I'm going to need a lift : P

Hi chris.. you are best.
Beautiful restoration!
That is one awesome paint job.
Hey Chris I didn’t put any silicone around the body chassis rubber i think they didn’t do in the factory I believe it will be ok
dream car as a child hasn't materialized until now only can see😢😢
that car is beautiful
Ermoso auto quedó como nuevo todo se ve bien detallado saludos
What is the size of the bolt that goes between the chassis and the floor (bolt near the rear shock) thanks.
10mm thread, and like 20mm long, or 25mm long
Chris Vallone thanks man.i'm fron brazil
haha cool man! love your avatar there, whos car is that? haha =o)
Great selection on the color
You the Best…..
ah thanks so much!
Very nice done!!! Thank you for sharing.
That's a work of art
Chris, nice video. Very informative. Did you use sheet metal screws for the body-to-pan rubber? Thanks.
I either use screws or if the original tack nails are in the pan, and just attach the rubber to them.
Love ur work cris great stuff
Awesome information👌👌👌👌👍👍👍👍
Those rubber Mount things you can also get those from electrical supply house just ask for rubber Mount pads for an electrical Transformer
Hello Chris. Doe a 1956 oval body fit in a 1965 chassis?
Not sure really as I have not tried that, but there are many that have, there might be some modifications you would need to do.
I have to replace the body of my VW beetle 1302 build june 1971 back to the chassis.
As far as I could find, I only have to replace pad's to support body to rear shock tower.
But I don't know the correct thickness of the blocs to fit.

Nice job. Where's the interior video's?
Para qué comprar un 0km teniendo ese VW?? Exelente trabajo!!! Saludos desde Argentina.
Hey man. Thanks for screen-capping me at 2 minutes in. =)
wolfywho you da man. I loved that 66 you did.
Chris Vallone - Thanks Chris. Btw, the dowel idea is brilliant. Thanks for showing that!
great info. Thanks Chris!
Chris? Why are the wheels in the back alwese in that weird angle

Noice!!! Thanks for the info. Love the channel
Damn I wish they still produced the bug
No lock tight on the bolts?
thought the same
I'm rebuilding a1967 and I can't seem to find a chassis rubber seal do u know where I can find one?
Great video thanks
Your the BEST!
Did you use torque?
Where the 4 long heater channel front bolts go, if the threads are completely eaten up, can they be repaired or do I have to replace that whole part under the firewall?
ahmad ghafil you could probably just drill out whats left of the threads and weild in a receiving nut
ceyoung0304 you can't do that with the front four because they go straight into the channels.... I wish I could though.
What I'm actually thinking about doing is cutting those slots from the side and insert spacers in there and weld it back up. I will exhaust all (cheap) options before buying that whole piece lol.
Do you ever use anti seiz on the treads of the bolts it seems like a good idea to me, what are your thoughts
+Deb Zagurskie If the car is going to be a driver and being driven in all sorts of weather? Then yeah. But if it is just s fair weather car, no need.

Slick! Chris, may I know the wheel and tire size? Thank you..
15" rim 165 R 15 Tire
What thickness of the rubber för en 17mm bolts under the seat? It for a 59 with two holes on each side.
Maybe 1/4 of an inch

Why do you lift at the doors??
where else would you grab it to set it down on the chassis? Can't really put it under the heat channels because now the arms are in the way.
@@classicvwbugs ok
Thanks!
Nice cars. They could use some power steering and power brakes and they would be fine to drive today too.
I think, you should have lifted the shell diffrently. There should be some places to fit hooks
Minha novela predileta.
What do you use to keep the pan gasket in place?
dfarres1 I got a video on it, use the old nails or small sheet metal screws.
