This is an excellent breakdown.. I'd love more of a breakdown of using colors, to brighten or bring out different colors in eyes. Also, I seem to have a terrible reaction to carmine which not a lot of people realize with the purple liners.. I'd love advice for purple/reds that don't contain carmine bc it's my fav color!
EliznotLiz correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe carmine is a non vegan product, so if you can find a vegan brand, they should be safe, like Jeffery star. But obviously check the ingredients.
I use the Marc Jacobs Gel Liner for tightlining because after searching high and low for a liner that i can use for either tightlining or on my lower eye lid. I find that this gel liner does not budge once it sets. The only thing is i have to refrain from blinking until the gel liner does set.
Personally, my absolute favorite eyeliner is the Smashbox Always on Gel Liner. I was someone whose eyeliner would always run towards the edge of my eye later in the day and that just didn’t look cute, but I never have that problem with this eyeliner. Even the Pat McGrath ran on me and that’s $7 more expensive. The color range in the Smashbox line is great as well. Will always be a believer on that one. 1000% recommend!
This has helped me chose gel pencil! I have semi hooded eyes so I prefer really close to the lash line application to make my eyelash base appear thicker. Thank you both very much. I never miss a video with my guys!
I LOVE fun eye liner...I am going to be 50, and I find a simple colored eye liner just on the top line looks so good. I have also been into adding a bit of glitter in my eye liners...makes them twinkle!
As a 49 year woman with ever increasing hooded eyes (and little lid space), love, love colored eyeliner. Marc Jacobs lavender is amazing for bringing green out. if your worried about drying out eye area, the kopari coconut is good at removing eyeliner.

Kat Von D Trooper Liner I have oil eyelids and it doesnt budge even when my shadow sometimes does lol. It is also super easy to get the precise line and the component is easy to hold. For a smudgy look I love the Kat Von D Basket Case it smudges great and then stays put all day and I mean I have to remove it lol. For color deff the Urban Decay glide super easy don't have any catch no yanking or skipping across my lid.
I would love to hear some of your favorite color eyeliner combos. I 😍😍😍colored eyeliners and have been stocking up on several of the Marc Jacobs liners. They are the only ones I’ve tried that don’t smear on me. I’m going to try the Makeup Forever one you recommended tho!!
I was just at Sephora this morning shopping for eyeliner!! I ended up buying Smashbox Always On Gel Eyeliner. Will try it tomorrow. I'm not into cat eye or heavy lining...just for definition, so I think it will be fine. I do have to pick up that remover though...
YAY, I love it when you two do a tutorial! I have lots of eyeliners (mainly in black or brown) that I regularly use, but my favorite for waterline or tightlining is the Make Up Forever Aqua XL pencil. Having very watery eyes, I am always on a search for a good liner that doesn't end up on my cheek...and this one does stay put. For a liquid I use Guerlain and for a smudgy liner-shadow I like Nat Robbins cream eyeshadow pencil. I have a few green, blue, bronze, light gold and even some lavender eye pencils that I haven't used all that much, but once again you have inspired me to give them another try. Thanks guys, you are always delightful and helpful all at the same time. 💘

Jeffrey Sephora Pro I use contacts and so my eyes can get kind of watery, so when I tried to line my waterline with the Marc Jacobs highliner it just ran all down my undereye and became a soupy mess. On both eyes. I'm gonna check out the makeup forever one and see if it works better with watery eyes.
I love colored eyeliner, I just bought a bunch of different ones bc after I'd seen an eye tutorial using only two reddish tones and smudging those and after trying it out myself I'd tasted blood 🤩 love these guys ! Thanks for all the great tips 👌

Love these guys 💕 With age (eyelid outer corner shape changed), my go-to graphic liquid cat-eye just looked too sharp...I switched to doing a slightly smudged gel pencil cat-eye, it is far more forgiving with the slight dropping and tiny crinkly wrinkles. Love playing with colors, pairing with shadows to deepen the color scheme or popping an ‘opposite’ color for fun (I.e., bright teal liner on pink/purple shadow). Love my makeup removing cleansing balms that remove everything, including WP liner/mascara. Miss my graphic cat-eye but Life and Laughter gave me these crinkles, love them too!

So glad that you did this video. I learned several things that I didn't know, and as I'm one of those watery eyed girls I will definitely try out that layering technique. Seriously, if that works I'm going pass out or something. So far nothing has stayed in my waterline and I get so upset every time I see my favorite UA-camr's talk about how great a liner is when I know that it's not going to work on me. I totally agree about the Makeup For Ever pencil in the waterline! It really stays put all day! I love using the dark brown shade in my waterline: it gives definition, but is much softer than black. For the liquid eyeliner, I love the Pretty Easy liner from Clinique. To me, it's like a better version of Kat Von D's Trooper liner, which I find tugs at my lids and skips.
You guys just saved me from tossing out the Sephora jumbo liners I have....had a bad day trying to do a wing look....got mad at some of my liners......try try again...another day.....really curious about the cake liner...used to use one...loved it!

Bobbi Brown Long Wear Waterproof Liner is a lifesaver. I have oily lids and living in Singapore with 89 F on average. It doesn't budge even when riding motorcycle & perspiring buckets
I never thought about the waterproof eyeliner not sticking to my waterline because the two where fighting. I'll have to look in to kohl. The KVD has been my favorite for years. I can wear that without primer and it still sticks to my lids. And yes, I'm oily. You always so informative! Keep up the good work. 😘
I love pot eye liners. I am addicted to them. I use pot liners with an eye liner brush for the exact reasons David stated. I love how versatile they are.
That Sephora crayon is a life saver especially when you are in the go. It doesn't budge after it sets and quick to apply. Plus it travels easy and you will have no surprise spillage. I have them in several nude colors. And Kat Von D eye liner is the bomb. Its ez to put on even for wrinkly 41 years old eyes...Hope it helps someone. Great video again, I truly enjoy it.

Omg!!!! Great vid. Such an informative complete list of all things eyeliner. I am a liner junkie. But... Some faves are... Laura Geller eye calligraphy. That one is a felt tip pen that applies pretty thinly and can be built up if ya don't have hooded eyes. Good staying power. Same for the ciate London fierce flicks. Same qualities. And my tight line faves are the Mac chromagraphic pencils. Also the NYX collection noir glossy black pencil. Actually nearly all NYX waterproof pencils. Phew! Sorry for the book. You guys are the best! I hope I can help someone out with my faves.

Thanks for the great tips guys! I just purchased the UD liner in 'mildew' and my plan is to wear it a little smoked out on my lower lash line, with a dewy bronzed eye and skin. So when david mentioned that as a good first step into colour i got excited! So much more confident now.

David and Jeffery, you guys are a power duo! Lol! I’m a lover of coloured eyeliners! I have brown eyes and blue, gold, green and purple eyeliners just make my eyes pop! I’ve been really liking Smashbox liners because they come in a creamy formula and glide on really nicely and last all day long until I remove it. Lancome’s Bi-Facil eye makeup remover has been my go to for the past 23 years! Highly recommended.

Thanks for the tip on the Aqua XL liner - will be trying this next! Is this suitable for lining the upper eye lid as well? I have heard that it is a drier formula, so wasn’t sure. I have used Revlon Colorstay as my liner FOR-EV-ER - any suggestions for a similar/better formula? Video suggestion - how to line your eyes appropriately based on eye shape!!! I have sensitive eyes and the liquid liners tend to be irritants. I use the pencil gel and the gel in pots for a liner look, khol type pencils for more like a smokey look and small liners like the marc jacobs ( I have it in clinique and chanel) to tightline. Also you forgot about using eyeshadows as liners! that's a classic way to line too.
I guess I have to go to Clinique. I loved Bobby Brown's gel pot but I have sensitive eyes everything I try irritates also the Lancome eye makeup remover is awesome but everything from Lancome has fragrance I'm not sure if the eye remover does I'll check it out
I love colored eyeliners. I’m trying to get as many colors as I can from various brands. I was told by a Sephora employee a long time ago on my first trip to Sephora to not use Colored eyeliners. She said “Why would you want to bring attention to the part of your face that is not your best attribute” I’m blind in one eye and due to many failed surgeries to restore my sight I’m left with an eye that is whitish, bluish, grey. I told the Sephora employee that I’m not ashamed of my eye so why not wear colored eyeliner. Plus it kind of goes with my goth esthetic. She said “So you’re into that Marylin Manson look? That’s cool.” It took a long time for me to return to Sephora. Now I’m a Rouge member! The lovely employees at San Antonio Texas La Cantera location have really helped me with my self esteem. I love the classes! I’m learning so much and finally feel pretty.
Lash tawk. It's like coffee tawk. Like butta! I love Tarte Tartiest Lash Paint Mascara. I have non-existent lashes and this brush has short bristles that get down to the last line. I also have hooded eyes so I don't look like a raccoon when I'm done. Love you guys. ❤️

I am a die hard Stila girl. Unless I'm going for a matte finish, it's my go to. I'm also one of those girls who apparently thought I was going to be young forever, so didn't take the best care of the skin around my eyes. I find that the Stila liquid liner is easy for me to apply, even with a little extra skin around there. And I love the fact that its not going anywhere until I remove it as well. My only set back is tight lining. My cover girl pencil/crayon refuses to stay where I put her, so I'm looking forward to trying the makeup forever aqua liner. That line has yet to disappoint me. I love colored gel liners; navy, purple or brown for my blue eyes are the best but my go to liner is the HyperSharp Liner. It's a fast dry pen brush and just stays put so it's perfect for my hooded eyes.

Good tips, I never been able to do the cat eye properly because I grew up using pencil liner not liquid. Johnson and Johnson's Baby Oil is good for removing eye make up as well as daily moisture for the rest of your body.
Could you do a video for different liner products that work for hooded eyes? I’ve tried some of the liners in this video but they transfer to the eyelid. Thanks!
Frida Swenson I have oily + hooded lids. I have awful experiences with kohl or gel liners. I’ve had the best luck with the Physicians Formula Eye Booster Eyeliner + Serum. It is liquid, has a brush tip, and does take a second to dry, but once it does, it’s there until I take it off with cleansing balm.
I use the Make Up Forever Aqua XL Eye Liner 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼. This works awesome. I use it on the water line. I love Urban Decay too but it would bleed through. So i switched to Make Up Forever. The combination with Better Than Sex Waterproof Mascara has been working for me. I wear contacts so i constantly wet my eyes. I use the Lancome eye make up remover also. It feels good on the eye lids 😊 and takes off all the waterproof make up smoothly.

Jeffrey Sephora Pro I use contacts and so my eyes can get kind of watery, so when I tried to line my waterline with the Marc Jacobs highliner it just ran all down my undereye and became a soupy mess. On both eyes. I'm gonna check out the makeup forever one and see if it works better with watery eyes.
I love colored eyeliner, I just bought a bunch of different ones bc after I'd seen an eye tutorial using only two reddish tones and smudging those and after trying it out myself I'd tasted blood 🤩 love these guys ! Thanks for all the great tips 👌

With age (eyelid outer corner shape changed), my go-to graphic liquid cat-eye just looked too sharp...I switched to doing a slightly smudged gel pencil cat-eye, it is far more forgiving with the slight dropping and tiny crinkly wrinkles. Love playing with colors, pairing with shadows to deepen the color scheme or popping an ‘opposite’ color for fun (I.e., bright teal liner on pink/purple shadow). Love my makeup removing cleansing balms that remove everything, including WP liner/mascara.
Miss my graphic cat-eye but Life and Laughter gave me these crinkles, love them too!

So glad that you did this video. I learned several things that I didn't know, and as I'm one of those watery eyed girls I will definitely try out that layering technique. Seriously, if that works I'm going pass out or something. So far nothing has stayed in my waterline and I get so upset every time I see my favorite UA-camr's talk about how great a liner is when I know that it's not going to work on me.

I totally agree about the Makeup For Ever pencil in the waterline! It really stays put all day! I love using the dark brown shade in my waterline: it gives definition, but is much softer than black. For the liquid eyeliner, I love the Pretty Easy liner from Clinique. To me, it's like a better version of Kat Von D's Trooper liner, which I find tugs at my lids and skips.

Bobbi Brown Long Wear Waterproof Liner is a lifesaver. I have oily lids and living in Singapore with 89 F on average. It doesn't budge even when riding motorcycle & perspiring buckets
I never thought about the waterproof eyeliner not sticking to my waterline because the two where fighting. I'll have to look in to kohl. The KVD has been my favorite for years. I can wear that without primer and it still sticks to my lids. And yes, I'm oily. You always so informative! Keep up the good work. 😘
I love pot eye liners. I am addicted to them. I use pot liners with an eye liner brush for the exact reasons David stated. I love how versatile they are.
That Sephora crayon is a life saver especially when you are in the go. It doesn't budge after it sets and quick to apply. Plus it travels easy and you will have no surprise spillage. I have them in several nude colors. And Kat Von D eye liner is the bomb. Its ez to put on even for wrinkly 41 years old eyes...Hope it helps someone. Great video again, I truly enjoy it.

My favorite is the kat von d dagger eyeliner because the brush tip is angle like the Sephora 22 brush for easy tight line application.

Omg!!!! Great vid. Such an informative complete list of all things eyeliner. I am a liner junkie. But... Some faves are...
Laura Geller eye calligraphy. That one is a felt tip pen that applies pretty thinly and can be built up if ya don't have hooded eyes. Good staying power. Same for the ciate London fierce flicks. Same qualities.
And my tight line faves are the Mac chromagraphic pencils. Also the NYX collection noir glossy black pencil. Actually nearly all NYX waterproof pencils.

Thanks for the great tips guys! I just purchased the UD liner in 'mildew' and my plan is to wear it a little smoked out on my lower lash line, with a dewy bronzed eye and skin. So when david mentioned that as a good first step into colour i got excited! So much more confident now.

David and Jeffery, you guys are a power duo! Lol! I’m a lover of coloured eyeliners! I have brown eyes and blue, gold, green and purple eyeliners just make my eyes pop! I’ve been really liking Smashbox liners because they come in a creamy formula and glide on really nicely and last all day long until I remove it. Lancome’s Bi-Facil eye makeup remover has been my go to for the past 23 years! Highly recommended.

Thanks for the tip on the Aqua XL liner - will be trying this next! Is this suitable for lining the upper eye lid as well? I have heard that it is a drier formula, so wasn’t sure. I have used Revlon Colorstay as my liner FOR-EV-ER - any suggestions for a similar/better formula?

I have sensitive eyes and the liquid liners tend to be irritants. I use the pencil gel and the gel in pots for a liner look, khol type pencils for more like a smokey look and small liners like the marc jacobs ( I have it in clinique and chanel) to tightline. Also you forgot about using eyeshadows as liners! that's a classic way to line too.

I love colored eyeliners. I’m trying to get as many colors as I can from various brands. I was told by a Sephora employee a long time ago on my first trip to Sephora to not use Colored eyeliners. She said “Why would you want to bring attention to the part of your face that is not your best attribute” I’m blind in one eye and due to many failed surgeries to restore my sight I’m left with an eye that is whitish, bluish, grey. I told the Sephora employee that I’m not ashamed of my eye so why not wear colored eyeliner. Plus it kind of goes with my goth esthetic. She said “So you’re into that Marylin Manson look? That’s cool.” It took a long time for me to return to Sephora. Now I’m a Rouge member! The lovely employees at San Antonio Texas La Cantera location have really helped me with my self esteem. I love the classes! I’m learning so much and finally feel pretty.
Lash tawk. It's like coffee tawk. Like butta! I love Tarte Tartiest Lash Paint Mascara. I have non-existent lashes and this brush has short bristles that get down to the last line. I also have hooded eyes so I don't look like a raccoon when I'm done. Love you guys. ❤️

I am a die hard Stila girl. Unless I'm going for a matte finish, it's my go to. I'm also one of those girls who apparently thought I was going to be young forever, so didn't take the best care of the skin around my eyes. I find that the Stila liquid liner is easy for me to apply, even with a little extra skin around there. And I love the fact that its not going anywhere until I remove it as well. My only set back is tight lining. My cover girl pencil/crayon refuses to stay where I put her, so I'm looking forward to trying the makeup forever aqua liner. That line has yet to disappoint me. Thanks for the tip guys!

Try Givenchy Magic Kohl pencil. NOT THE KAJAL, the Kohl formula. It's bomb!
I love Urban Decay colored liner and also Clinique Intense in Dark Chocolate.
I love colored gel liners; navy, purple or brown for my blue eyes are the best but my go to liner is the HyperSharp Liner. It's a fast dry pen brush and just stays put so it's perfect for my hooded eyes.

Good tips, I never been able to do the cat eye properly because I grew up using pencil liner not liquid. Johnson and Johnson's Baby Oil is good for removing eye make up as well as daily moisture for the rest of your body.
Could you do a video for different liner products that work for hooded eyes? I’ve tried some of the liners in this video but they transfer to the eyelid. Thanks!
Frida Swenson I have oily + hooded lids. I have awful experiences with kohl or gel liners. I’ve had the best luck with the Physicians Formula Eye Booster Eyeliner + Serum. It is liquid, has a brush tip, and does take a second to dry, but once it does, it’s there until I take it off with cleansing balm.

I use the Make Up Forever Aqua XL Eye Liner 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼. This works awesome. I use it on the water line. I love Urban Decay too but it would bleed through. So i switched to Make Up Forever. The combination with Better Than Sex Waterproof Mascara has been working for me. I wear contacts so i constantly wet my eyes. I use the Lancome eye make up remover also. It feels good on the eye lids 😊 and takes off all the waterproof make up smoothly.
