I lived in the western suburbs for a little over 25 years. My endgame was to return to Iowa after I retired, where I am now. So make your money in Illinois which is livable in some places, but retire elsewhere.
Totally agree. Obvious this person never lived in Illinois, and never lived in a rural area. Chicago is a cesspool, and all the towns around it are circling the drain. The best option is, like some of the commenters below, get out when you can.
Not sure what criteria you used but why pass up Elmhurst? And, you really should have named your video "Best Places to Live in NE Illinois. Oh, you did mention Plainfield & Springfield (which I would not chose to live in) I went to Joliet H.S. but live in a much better spot now-Colorado.
I see it’s all about the Chicagoland area everything north of i80. Although I grew up in Chicago and the raised my family in the burbs. I can tell you there are other nice places in the state, our tax money goes to the state above I80. I no longer live in the state and have no interest of ever moving back but geez, this should be titled 20 best places to live in the Chicagoland area. Boo to the title 😮
Get out of Illinois ASAP. Run, don't walk to the nearest Exit! Extreme Crime, Taxes, Corruption, Awful Schools, and COLD. If you live there, plan an Exit strategy and RUN.

Springfield is a great place to pick up an abandoned house really cheap, unless its already been converted into a meth lab.
