@Santiago Rodriguez Newton Drops to 20-ish kJ at ~25km altitude, but it's enough to rip the skies at respectively thinner parts of the atmosphere. If you minimize the drag, it works wonders.
Or... Build a R.A.P.I.E.R ultra-high altitude airplane, reaching Mach 5 and travelling around Kerbin in about an hour of real time. Or travel at 30 m/s and fly for several days. :/
Here's some advice, next time you are coming in too fast for an approach just deploy your landing gear. It increases your drag to the shit and slows you down like a brick.

Use fairings as nosecones and speed wraps. Rotate wings to have a slight angle of attack so you can maintain prograde at all times. Clip parts. Cover the exhaust end of your RAPIERS with tiny nosecones to reduce drag there.
Efficiency in what? You have almost no fuel and no opportunities to fly 2k speed on altitudes above 15km. Goliath is not the best option unless you use it on heavy crafts.

Should have drained monoprop, in new version you could also remove kernels Eva pack to reduce weight further

air pressure pushes the wings up. Air from the front prevents air pushing down the top. the plane steals energy from the atmosphere.
