  • Learn how to use Spiro Paths in Inkscape to create these decorative ornaments that can be made into elegant logo and monogram designs.
The secret to making these paths look fluid and natural is knowing which mode to use for the Pen Tool. The Spiro setting allows you to draw curvy lines that retain a perfect contour as your draw them.

Hey Nick, your content is really great and well produced. You explain everything in such a good way that it is so easy to understand and follow along. Open source software is so important for me and for everyone, really. And you showcase this beauty of an open source project in a absolutely excellent way. When there is a new Logos By Nick video out, it makes me happy and it makes me want to create.
Thank you for doing what you do, being who you are, and expressing how to create. I'm looking forward to continue to follow your journey :)
    Thank you :)

Besides the fact that you are doing these videos...I just find it so commendable that you just keep updating these tutorials, it's like as soon as there is a software update, you are here showing everybody what is new, you are an inspiration!

I always enjoy watching your tutorials Nick, big fan!! I love your artistic taste too not only the knowledge and creativity you have. I’m just wondering if you can make a video sharing your experience in designing simple logos (like the one in this video mainly using pen, pencil, shapes tool) by showing us some of the logos you did over the years and commenting on them by giving us tips how to make nice design. For example: not to make the logo too busy the less is better, making symmetric lines, scale down the whole design to make the stroke size look the same (like what you mentioned today) , how to choose the right font, when to make it bold, how to choose the right font size, when to make different words in different fonts and when to make it same fonts, when to make one of the words smaller or bigger. When to use italic. When to make it straight text and when to curve it. When do you put the curved text inside the circle and when do you put it outside. How to choose the right colours, brightness and contrast. Overall how to make the design simple but stands out. You know what I mean? So you don’t need to make a new design in the video, instead showing us examples and sharing your artistic experience. I really want to learn more about the guides of making outstanding design. Thanks heaps.

Love your videos. I know I'm not creative like so many other people - which is fine. But one thing I'd be interested to know is how you actually go from "lets do a video" (or a design) to then be able to produce a 14 minute tutorial demonstrating it. Like this one for example, did the design ideas and components start from someone elses content so little was spent developing the idea, or did you spend 45 minutes coming up with the components, or was it a 4 hour journey? I mean even "simple" things like choosing fonts can be challenging or at least daunting, not to mention the myriad of ways to create design elements like your spiral patterns.

Hey Nick, been loving the content for years. I know you're more of a Graphic Designer, but could you cover more of the artistic tools of LPE ? Hatches, Power Stroke, Taper Stoke ? Thanks for all you do.
Just to note, I'm working on an Illustration of a 1900's locomotive, and it can all be done with hatches and paths. Comic artist can use hatches for shadows and perspective.

*** Ok, that's sorted, I was using the old version of Inkscape ***
Hi Nick. I can't seem to get it right when creating the initial shape of the ornament - when I draw the straight line holding control key, I press left mouse button to create the new node and then letting go the control and moving my cursor to the right side, the whole line is bending. Not sure what I'm doing wrong here. It looks that my settings are the same as yours.

    Great video
I is Inkscape but i know you've worked with gimp
    🚨
    QUESITON ???
    I've been having a frustrating 😤 issue.
    In Gimp:
When I'm drawing and on a layer or have created a layer. Then want to use any tool the mode will switch from
Replace with current selector to subtract from the current selection as if I switched myself.
I do I PREVENT THE AND 🛑 STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING.
SINCE IT DOES THIS IT PREVENTS ME FROM CONTINUING TO WORK ON MY PROJECT
    I NEED ASSISTANT 🚨
